Wait, I'm getting confused. You paid 19.99¤ for the Deluxe Edition or the Collector's Edition (the blue box one)? I can order the Deluxe for 17.99¤ on Amazon but I want to buy the box edition, which costs 49.99¤ on Amazon.de as it is an import.

yes, that's exactly the one I got for 19.99€ at Müller you save yourself a lot of money when you order it in a store. Just got my physical copy from amazon. Loving the bonus tracks!! Why are they bonus, I do not understand. My major complaint with this album is that it's too short! I want more.

Encore Un Soir - Songs Review (Standard Edition)

 

Rating: 5 = Bearable, 6 = Average, 7 = Good, 8 = Very Good, 9 = Amazing, 10 = Flawless

 

01. Plus Qu'ailleurs - I find this song to be very smoothing, relaxing and easy-listening. I agree with their choice to make it the album opener. It sets the mood for an album that flows effortlessly. Definitely a grower though. I had to listen to it many times to memorize its chorus. I think it is the weakest song of the album and I agree with people commenting on the pronunciation of Celine, it is forced and makes her voice sound blurry. Could have been better. 6/10

 

02. L'etoile - Hands down, the most positive, the brightest song of her entire Francophone career. And this comes from someone who has listened to her French catalogue in its entirety, always paying attention to the lyrics. It is the kind of song that gives smiles away! To make a long story short... If you dislike it, then congratulations, you are the Queen of Evil. 9/10

 

03. Ma Faille - This song is everything! Sensual and bombastic, fragile and powerful, modern and elegant... all at the same time! A very special addition to her discography (English or French) because I have been expecting this kind of song in every Celine release since mid 00s and onwards. It was about time! Hopefully it becomes the second single of the album. Only thing I would wish for is a more extended musical bridge. 9/10

 

04. Encore Un Soir - The soul of this album. JJG and Celine stayed true to their greatness. I have no much to say that hasn't been said already. I just want to point out that the volcanic climax of the song is what makes it stand out. The fact that it became such a smash hit is just adding to our addiction! 10/10

 

05. Je Nous Veux - This song is simple on every level: lyrics, music, instrumentation, vocal performance. Which is why I love it. I consider it a very meaningful and heartfelt recording that pairs very well with Encore Un Soir. It captures the need of Celine for companionship. Such a moving theme given what she has been through. Very touching. 9/10

 

06. Les Yeux Au Ciel - I sense this song has all potential to be a fan-favorite and rightfully so. I can also see it being the third single of the album. It has a hook and it is instantly memorable! While its topic does not apply to everyone, I consider it to be both original and interesting. The vocals of Celine are on point, whether she is singing the soft verses of the song or its highest parts. I find LYAC to be among her sweetest songs, I have a smile on my face everytime it ends. 9/10

 

07. Si C'etait A Refaire - This is the type of ballad I want Celine to be singing. I know it is just a matter of personal taste, but I love this song so much! Instant love! It goes without saying that this is the album recording which captures the grandeur of her voice in its purest form. I do not relate to its lyrics, but I do relate to the certainty the interpretation of Celine includes. She has known love, she has experienced it and now she is making an affirmative statement. A love confession to her loved one who passed away. 10/10

 

08. Ordinaire - This cover is exemplary: This is the way Celine should be covering songs. The lyrics were changed to be more personal and most importantly the sublime production, epic instrumentation and vocal performance do not resemble the original. I can certainly say that I prefer this version. Celine took this song to another level and did it justice in both studio and live performances. Her vocals are intense, raw, but not strained, nor forced. A gem which gives me reasons to be a proud fan! 9/10

 

09. Tu Sauras - Has Celine recorded a dance song before? Because I have a hard time remembering after listening to this stunning recording! Most satisfying factor is that Celine absolutely owns this song! It is sexy, seductive, full of confidence and life! 9/10

 

10. Toutes Ces Choses - This song is life. Mesmerizing, soulful and pure. Celine sings in the most beautiful way, from her legato delivery to the colourful textures of her voice that are perfectly showcased. A true gem. 10/10

 

11. Le Bonheur En Face - The message of this beautiful song is so simple and true. A life advice that is thrown in front of our faces! One of the most memorable songs of the album, I was hooked to its chorus from the very first listen. I absolutely heart it. 9/10

 

12. A La Plus Haute Branche - I have praised this song several times already and I am glad to see that so many members share my thoughts about it. This is probably because we have all lost someone we loved. I am not ashamed to admit that this song brings tears to my eyes - something that happens very rarely - and that I needed Celine to sing a song like that. I connected to it from the very first live performance. Her vocals are crystal clear, expressive, bringing the lyrics to another level. The beautiful melody is there to support the interpretation and the lyrical content of the song. The result is no less than a masterpiece! To me this song is an instant classic. And the heart of the album. 10/10

I'm surprised there's been relatively little press coverage since the Friday release. I think there was actually way more press for the EUS single than there has been thus far for the album. A few reviews here and there, but not as many as I expected.

 

But hey, how amazing that it seems to be doing so well, especially in the US? I certainly didn't expect it - as a French record - to be deep inside the top 100 on both iTunes and Amazon. Hopefully Sony takes this as a sign and finally lets us have some of the French back catalogue here (which is largely still only available as an import and not on any of the usual download or streaming platforms).

Well we've been waiting 4 years for a new French album, and 3 years for a new album. Anyway it's a matter of taste. When you are such a big fan (of Céline or any other artist), there's nothing compared to the ritual of having the real thing in your hands, removing the plastic wrap and playing the music from it's real source, which is still today a CD, and luckily once again, a vinyl LP I don't like the "coldness" of playing a digital file, and there's nothing like the sound coming from a vinyl/CD in a good stereo. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
