Didn't JJG also have something to do with "D'elles"? I don't think he produced anything (and obviously didn't write), but didn't he have some kind of creative direction/oversight?? Or am I totally making that up?

Yes right. But maybe they did not mention D'elles because he did not write/compose any song of the album. But he wrote 3 songs of 1F+4T.

I guess because there has been little to no promotion in the UK?

Well D'eux and Sisda were certificated gold in the UK. But that was many years ago...

I understand what you're saying, but when someone has rarely anything positive to say, do they really love Céline? (I'm not talking about you, just people in general). It's one thing to be disappointed (I think we were ALL disappointed by the "A New Day... Live In Las Vegas" CD from 2004 lol), it's another to post negative reviews of every album, single, live performance, etc...

Hahaha the live in Vegas thing made me chuckle.

Well, as you can see in my review I tried to give credit where credit is due, even to songs that I don't necessarily like but do recognize some good quality in them.

And you CAN talk about me if you want as well, but I think the generality (in everything in life) is that the negative things are always more annoying and you feel you have to complain about. For example I love Encore un soir but I didn't come here to write about it. but when listening to the album and feeling what I felt made me want to express my disappointment.

I can also tell you that I am generally disappointed by the last couple of albums, but that doesn't mean I hate the singer, nor that I hate any work that she has done prior to these albums.

The fact that all of us are in this forum, means that we love her.

I'm glad that CD exists because it brought the first (and still to me, the best) live performance of Et je t'aime encore and of course the two bonus tracks You And I and the gorgeous Ain't Gonna Look The Other Way

And actually... I also enjoy the live version of MHWGO included in this album :innocent:

I can change it to 4 if it will make you feel better.

I agree that her pronunciation could be better. I'm wondering if perhaps people in the studio were too intimidated to point such a "silly" thing to her

But I love the vocals on the album! I think with age her voice becomes warmer, more velvety. More and more she sings in a relaxed, soft manner. I love it

Yes it is. It is an amazing song and for me the only highlight on that horrible live album. I remember when I first listened to the album thinking: what happened to her voice. It was really not good at that time.

Is it me, or all the people upload a song from Encore Un Soir on YouTube, it was removed quickly by Sony Music/YouTube? If Yes, it's nice to see that!

What you mentioned about her imitating the BeeGees. I found that in immortality she did that in the beggining of the song and then in the chorus when she sang along with them, to fit in, but she did broke from it every once in a while ("fulfill you destiny...") Here I find her sounding like Zaho the entire time.

Well, I don't know Zaho's repertoire that well, but I guess she is very limited vocally speaking. I haven't heard "Ma faille" demo for instance but I don't think she can reach some notes like Céline in this song.

Plus, of course, the fact that Zaho has a clear and actually quite specific pronunciation.

IMO it is about time you stop listening to Celine and go support other singers.

Excuse-me but why? Because I don't think her new album is good?

And sorry to say that but I didn't wait for your comment to support other singers.

I know it's weird but I usually don't like what most of people (let's say fans in this case) do and the other way around.

Someone brought up the Vegas Live album. Well, I like it. I might be the only one but yes, I do. I could write an entire review full of qualities about it even though "Because you loved me", "I'm alive" and "Et je t'aime encore" are the worst live performances put on record to me.

Off topic but I loved the live in LV album. Now, onto the new album. i just noticed something. If you have the deluxe edition you've gotten to hear Ma Force. So we have Ma Faille and Ma Force. Total opposites, huh? LOL  Anyone else see that? I think that's kinda contradictory but neat all at the same time.

lLol the fear of correcting her pronunciation happens in the English studio also :giggle:

She must be a tyrant behind the scenes! :P

Okay so my first listening it's done! Instant crush with Les yeux au ciel! :w00t:     I so very much looove this tune, second single NOW!!! But it's very short, less than 3 minutes! They should have extended and repeat more times the last chorus!

And the other songs... Well I can't remember any now (like you said it's an album that need several playings) other than some of them are still too short. I noticed someone here was posting extended versions of some songs and I totally agree with that :)

Now to listen to it again :whee:

Pd: I liked Plus qu'ailleurs. It's a nice introduction to the album and it's true, the 1f&4t feeling is there

I'm happy to announce that my copy has finally arrived today (LP + Deluxe)! :w00t: One week before the estimated delivery. So maybe I'm the last member here to listen the CD.

I heard it twice today and I'm about to listen to it for the 3rd time.

I wanted to write a long review, but it's hard because I need more time to give it a rightful evaluation. So here it's my quick review.

Generally I really like the album. After reading a lot of negative comments I was kind of afraid. So my expectations were reduced to minimum. It is far from being Céline's best album and it simply cannot be compared to the ones written and produced by Jean-Jacques Goldman.

The album itself sounds fresh and I could say it's more coherent than "Sans attendre" for example. It is not so modern as I expected to be according to your reviews althought I can feel some new approach in the production. It's still good old Céline Dion "à la française".

My favorite songs:

-Encore un soir - Definitely the best song on the album. For me everything that Jean-Jacques writes is a pure gold. This song is already a classic and I feel sad that we might not have other new songs written by him. I love the album version.

-Les yeux au ciel - I lOVE this song! I could say it was for me a "coup de foudre". It's such a cute and catchy song. This is definitely the best choice for the second single. Maybe a video clip with René-Charles? :giggle: Okay, let's not talk about video clips, it's a very sensitive subject right now :-D

-L'étoile - another catchy one, I like the rhythm although I have a feeling it ends too soon.

-Tu sauras- I was afraid that I won't like this one, but it's one of my favorites. I like the heavy guitar oriented chorus (a bit repetitive - but I will get used to it after few listenings). The production is fantastic even everybody is reproaching there is too much Zaho in it.

-À la plus haute branche- Beautiful and touching. I must admit that I was always skipping this one while I was watching fan videos from the tour. I didn't want to ruin my first impression and I'm glad. I'm also a bit confused why I gave to this song the lowest note in the contest. But as I remember it sounded slow and boring with the male voice. I'm glad she recorded this one.

-Trois heures vingt - I just needed to add this song to my "favorite" list because it's one of my favorite songs from Céline's early career. First time I heard it was in 1997 on the compilation "C'est pour vivre". It's a very symbolic and touching way to finish the album.

The other songs I like:

-Ma faille- I like this one as well although, to be honest, I expected a bit more. This one will grow on me and I think it will go to my "favorites" with the time

-Je nous veux- Another one I liked from the first listening. It's quite typical album song/ballad and it's another one that will climb to my favorites.

-Ordinaire - Big and dramatic. I like it despite its little old-fashioned sound. I kind of prefer the original though.

-Le bonheur en face- Quite nice. The chorus reminds me of "I Believe In You"

-Ma force - I like it, but I feel it simply got lost in my memory among all the others. A possible grower.

-Si c'était à refaire- A bit forgettable. I like it, but I should listen to it more to have a stronger opinion.

-Toutes ces choses- Same as above. Seems as a filler to me and I need to listen to it few more times. It reminds me of "On s'est aimé à cause" little bit.

The ones to which I should give more time:

- Plus qu'ailleurs - Kind of strange to open the album with this song. I could start to like it with the time, but the first impression is not very positive. I like the sound of acoustic guitar, but I find it a bit boring. It could be a good filler on 1 fille & 4 types.

-À vous - I feel this song simply doesn't belong to this album. The beginning sounds promising (the beat reminded me of "I'm Alive"), but then starts to disappoint. At one point I found it little bit irritating. Sorry, I know many of you like it.

My overall evaluation after the first two listening is 7.5/10. The mark will go up these days, I'm sure. :)

I think I would currently rank the album thus...

01. Toutes ces choses

02. Ma faille

03. Encore un soir

04. Les yeux au ciel

05. A la plus haute branche

06. Tu sauras

07. Plus qu'ailleurs

08. Je nous veux

09. Ordinaire

10. L'etoile

11. Si c'etait a refaire

12. Le bonheur en face

I massively love tracks 01-10. I like track 11, I will possibly grow to like track 12 one day.

I can't believe how much Plus qu'ailleurs and L'etoile have grown on me.

Bonus tracks are obviously good - I do like A vous a lot and Ma force is brilliant.

I find this album stronger than SA. The songs are effective, classic yet modern and the vocals are on point. There's not a song I dislike. Plus qu'ailleurs is a nice umplugged track to open the album. The Zaho songs come in as the breath of fresh air that SA is lacking. On the other hand the ballads are either single material (Je nous veux),or personal and even more moving (toutes ces choses, a la plus haute branche) Even Les yeux au ciel (the song I feared the most given the theme) sounds nothing like the infamous family-themed songs a la le miracle that Celine tends to incorporate more and more in her french releases since d'elles. BRAVO to this record that was so worth waiting!! ❤ Edited by Pangloss76

08. Ordinaire - This cover is exemplary: This is the way Celine should be covering songs. The lyrics were changed to be more personal and most importantly the sublime production, epic instrumentation and vocal performance do not resemble the original. I can certainly say that I prefer this version. Celine took this song to another level and did it justice in both studio and live performances. Her vocals are intense, raw, but not strained, nor forced. A gem which gives me reasons to be a proud fan! 9/10

Yeah. I'm looking back on when she was a little nappy headed boy.

Well my logic says that if it is at #50 at mid-week, where the majority of the copies have been sold, if we consider a full week, it will be between #80-100.
