Miha Posted August 30, 2016 at 10:17 AM Posted August 30, 2016 at 10:17 AM Well we've been waiting 4 years for a new French album, and 3 years for a new album. It won't even be one more week after its release (my vinyl is coming today), so I can bear with it. Barely Anyway it's a matter of taste. When you are such a big fan (of Céline or any other artist), there's nothing compared to the ritual of having the real thing in your hands, removing the plastic wrap and playing the music from it's real source, which is still today a CD, and luckily once again, a vinyl LP I don't like the "coldness" of playing a digital file, and there's nothing like the sound coming from a vinyl/CD in a good stereo. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. Javi guess what.... I recieved my deluxe EUS copy from Amazon UK (it was meant to arrive on sept.9th) in my mail box this morning.....you can imagine my eyes (shine bright like a diamond )I took it with myself on job.....now waiting to come home......and .... I guess Spain is not that far from Slovenia so you should get it if not today at least tomorrow...fingers crossed for you buddy 2 Quote
Miha Posted August 30, 2016 at 10:26 AM Posted August 30, 2016 at 10:26 AM And yes I'm proud of myself that I resisted to listen to EUS until now...although having ripped copy on my computer all these days Now where is this music video for EUS Sony??? I guess with these release everything is about who is more resisting/stubborn ...let's say contest :whistling: 1 Quote
anewdayhascome Posted August 30, 2016 at 10:44 AM Posted August 30, 2016 at 10:44 AM Well apart from the concerts and some reviews (either in press or on TV) there hasn't been any big promotion. Not even a short interview with Celine herself. 1 Quote A New Day... 10th & 11th November 2006 Taking Chances World Tour, Antwerp 13th & 14th May 2008, Kraków 28th June 2008 Celine 25th & 27th & 31st August 2013 20th, 23rd, 24th, 27th & 28th September 2016 Sans attendre Tour, Paris 1st & 5th December 2013 Encore un soir, Paris 24th, 25th, 28th, 29th June & 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 9th July 2016 Live 2017 Stockholm 17th June 2017 Lille 1st & 2nd July 2017 Paris 8th & 9th July 2017 Berlin 23rd & 24th July 2017 Live 2018 Taipei 11th & 13th July 2018 Manila 19th July 2018 Bangkok 23rd July 2018 BST Hyde Park London 5 July 2019

Mrs.Goldman Posted August 30, 2016 at 11:11 AM Posted August 30, 2016 at 11:11 AM Ok people, I came back after a long hibernation just to give my review on this album. I am well prepared to hear you all calling me a hater Ok so my general impression of this album is that it is DISSAPOINTING.Yes – I am a known snob for Celine’s French music but it is for a reason. The French music is the only place where she can have a #1 album which is from a non-commercial type music but rather good music, and if anything, I think she has proven that those non commercial – good quality songs are also much better accepted by the audience. You cannot have an “On ne change pas” in the English music career or even have it as a single, but it is and it is succeful and this is how her French career should have remained. When I first heared “Encore Un Soir” I was in tears because it was a perfect song, perfectly produced and I thought the entire album will be like this… well you can imagine my surprise.. Plus qu'ailleurs – I love this song. It is so simple but so haunting. It places you in a great atmosphere to start the album IMO. I LOOOOOOOOOVE Francis Cabrel and there is definitely that sense of his writing there. Only thing for me was that I didn’t know who wrote it when I first heard it and something in the production of this tract kept feeling not quite there, very reminding me of my Celine-musical-nemesis Jacques Veneruso’s style. And guess who produced it!? His production style is all over this song. 9/10L’etoile – It started nice and then as it went into the chorus, I was like – whaaaat? This song is not good. It is fun and poppy but it is a song that if it wasn’t in a Celine Dion album I wouldn’t have listened to it even once, and the lyrics are just…. No. Having said that, it is French radio gold! It is exactly what is now playing there (which is why I don’t listen to it anymore) so if they don’t release it as a single , they are idiots. 6/10 Ma faille – This song makes me physically ill. I literally have to force myself to keep it on and not pass it. Celine COMPLETELY imitates the singing voice of Zaho – the writer of this song. I assume that she first recorded it as a demo but it is obvious and it pisses me off. Also we have the “I got nothing left” effect where they seem to have made the tune higher or I don’t know what but Celine sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks. The melody is simple and not interesting to me and it tries to be something that it obviously isn’t. 4/10 Encore Un Soir – The only I have is that I kinda prefer the radio version over the album version but it’s might be just because I am used to it but otherwise this song is pure perfection. JJG knows how to bring the best out of Celine and in this song she sounds like herself and like no one else, the lyrics are AMAZING, the music is interesting which is more than what you can say about the previous song and the production is just haunting. This song is not just a song but an experience and standing in the same group with the other songs in the album just contrasts much more strongly the difference in quality of the rest of the songs. 10/10Je Nous Veux – Seems like Marc Dupre may be the new JJG. Well, he is not as good a songwriter but he “gets” her and writes to her feelings, which makes sense as he is part of her family. This beautiful ballad just warms my cold, cold heart. At first I saw that Humberto Gatica was producing it and I was excited, thinking that we’re gonna get another “Us”, unfortunately, it isn’t quite the same but I really enjoy this song. 8/10 Les yeux au ciel – I like the subject matter of this song. Makes me think of Celine running after her children with them busy playing with there Iphones or whatnot. I guess this song is what it should be. Also Radio gold. Please release it. 7/10Si c'était à refaire – Something about this song doesn’t click for me. It is well written, Celine brings both power and sensitivity yet.. don’t know. I can’t really get into the song. 7.5/10 Ordinaire – The first two verses are perfect. I love her nuances, I LOVE the Quebecois accent that popped in there. This song was supposed to be modern day Le Blues du Business Man and I don’t=’t think it is that strong. My Main issue with this is that it is obviously a perfect song to sing live, as we’ve seen, but as a recorded version you can’t do the same shtiks because you don’t have that energy. You can’t yell “quand je crie” like that, as well as not go on and prolong final notes in a sentence. I am a singer and so for me it is very much noticeable. Also, again my disappointment of Humberto Gatica in this album, The mastering between her voice and the orchestra is lacking, to me the orchestra sounds like something made in the computer and not an actual orchestra, the drums have a bunch of places where they have awesome beats and they are heard in the same line with the rest of the orchestra like it’s a mono midi-file. I keep thinking of Des Milliers de Baisers that had an orchestra but it sounded like an orchestra. 8/10 Tu Sauras – Was it hard to put the correct lyrics in the booklet?! But seriously though, this song is my JAM! I like its rockfish aspect and it reminds me in a way of “Wait for it” from the musical Hamilton which WAS my jam until this song came along. Is it a perfect song? No, is it amazing and conceptually brilliant? Nope, but does it do the work of giving a good feeling for 3 minutes? That it does. 8/10 Toutes Ces Choses – Marc Dupre has really outdone himself this time. It’s a simple song but the lyrics make you think… and smile… 8/10 À la plus haute branche – There is a discrepancy between the melody of this song and it’s lyrics. The lyrics tell you to (basically) be happy and remember that happiness is always around the corner but the melody is so depressing and downy that it just gives me the will to pass to the next song. 6/10 À la plus haute branche – See?! That’s what happens when you bring in a new person to the group. They inspire everyone to do a better job. Finally Humberto Gatica lived up to it name in this one. I love the crickets, and the whistling and Celine’s delivery. The lyrics are great. I would love to hear the original version that Daniel Picard submitted and see how much of this was his and how much theirs. Either way, this song give you an experience and this is what I was looking for. 9.5/10 A Vous – Aweful. Aweful. Aweful. This song sounds like it was written in 5 minutes and the trumpets or whatever it is just pisses me more. Just because it’s a thank you for fans doesn’t meant I will immediately like it. They should have taken example from Je Ne Vous Oublie Pas. That’s how you make a thank you song. The woman says thank you after losing her husband a few months earlier – is this really the rhythm that it deserves? 4/10 Ma Force – It’s a cute song. Ends the album with a nice feeling but it’s nothing special in my opinion. 7/10 Trois Heures Vingt – I can’t really review this song. It’s not a new one. The only thing I can say is that I feel like not all people who buy this album know the meaning behind this song and so randomly attaching a song from a 16 year old Celine from and old album is quite random. I would have liked her to rerecord it and put it as she sings it now. The only reason I offer that while knowing that it would be very emotional, is because she does sing it now nightly in her shows so it’s obviously not a problem. I think it would have been much better that way. So the conclude: By far the weakest French album, probably more than SA. My top 5:1. Encore Un Soir2. Plus qu'ailleurs3. Je Nous Veux4. Tu Sauras5. À la plus haute branche 5 Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/CallingYou/shadowoflovesig-1.jpg

maikan Posted August 30, 2016 at 11:45 AM Posted August 30, 2016 at 11:45 AM Well it's still #1 on Quebec charts (plus there's like 6 songs in the top ten) and considering the fact that there's only one fourth of the population in Canada who speaks french, it's quite good. Though I'm pretty sure it might come back up this week if sells are steady. 4 Quote

wjd Posted August 30, 2016 at 11:52 AM Posted August 30, 2016 at 11:52 AM I wouldn't worry about Canadian iTunes. Sans attendre sold 92,135 copies in Canada in its opening week; of this tally, 88,206 copies were sold in Quebec - so she could be #100 in Canada overall, but as long as she stays strong in Quebec, there is no issue as Canada overall [i.e. outside of Quebec] is insignificant. 1 Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
isurrender Posted August 30, 2016 at 12:18 PM Posted August 30, 2016 at 12:18 PM (edited) I don't like this album (I would add "at all" but maybe it's pushing too far). Beside some few songs, I didn't like SA as well but for other reasons . Thing is PAMP was a bad song (to me) and her previous french album was released quite incognito after 'D'elles' was a semi failure. Nobody expected such a success. So at the end, its quality was a surprise. This time, it's the other way around: great lead single and high expectations due to SA's success, successfull tour and big promo around its released ( for all the people complaining about nothing being done once the album has been released...I think you must not live in french-speaking countries as Céline is everywhere. Yes, not on TV but for once Sony is doing its job : ads are everywhere and layout in stores are crazy! I've read that Sony sent out 400.000 copies in stores. Don't know how true is this info though). And thing is : when such a momentum is being built... you can only be dissapointed. "Plus qu'ailleurs" : can't believe 2 of the most talented french songwriters are behind this song. Weakest album opener ever in Céline's discography. I liked PAMP even more. That says it all.Céline's interpretation is not convincing at all. One of the worst pronunciated songs she has ever recorded. L'étoile : a completely bland song. The star (étoile means star) has faded. Ma faille : I'll keep this one. Not a masterpiece but compared to the other songs...it's quite good. Encore un Soir : I had high expectations about the album version. And I prefer the single version. The 2 added piano notes at the beginning change the melody completely ( the single version intro is sad and melancholic) and the end...OMG. I thought it would be like the live version , with a crescendo ending with Céline going mad repeating "encore encore encore encore"...that's the opposite : they added some slower and sleepy "encore un soir" and "un peu de nous".I even wondered if she actually recorded those parts or they took the sentences already sung and slowed them down. It's really weird. "Je nous veux", "si c'était à refaire", "toutes ces choses", "le bonheur en face" : all in the same bucket. (Bad) filler songs. No one really stands out. Les yeux aux ciel: cute pop song, the theme is good but it sounds a bit like an animation movie song. "Ordinaire":Ok, this one is made for the stage. I read that it's kinda like "Le blues du bussinessman" I agree. But I'd like to remind that LBDB album version was nowhere as good the live version as well. Her accent doesn't bother me here : it's a song from the Quebec and she basically sings " I don't care about what you think" so she can sing it the way she wants to...it serves a purpose to me. Tu sauras :So repetitive! "Tu sauras" is all the chorus. Really?I usually don't care about voice filters. Voice experiments are meant to be studio work after all. But come on'...her voice in chorus is not hers. We barely recognize it.Céline is the new J.Lo or what? "A la plus haute branche" : ironically, everybody made fun of it when it was chosen but it ends up to be one of the best songs of the album. Haunting and her tone and pronunciation are perfect. "A vous" : I didn't understand anything. Lyrically and musically. It's a mess."Ma force" : so generic. I unfortunately can't save a lot out of this album. It's not well written neither well sung. Her pronunciation got so bad (compared to SA). I can't believe nobody told her anything about it. When she was in studio first and all the people who heard it afterwards. Some songs sound indeed fresh for Céline but french radios are drowned with songs like this. Beside EUS, it won't pass the test of time.Céline imitates Zaho's way of singing. To me, it's not a problem at all. I highlight it instead. I read some critisicm about it. Another proof this woman can sing everything. She doesn't impersonate somebody else's voice , she sings the same way but with her own tone. That's different.I've never read anyone complaining about Céline singing the same way as the BEE GEES in Immortality , after all. Edited August 30, 2016 at 12:21 PM by isurrender 2 Quote
enno2007 Posted August 30, 2016 at 12:33 PM Posted August 30, 2016 at 12:33 PM (edited) TOUTES CES CHOSES. This song kills me. A whisper in the night- 'I love you'. My God. I can't listen without crying. Her voice. The melody. Fully agree - this song gets me every time. I think its strength is its coherence: a melancholic, subtle melody; simple but poetic lyrics; and Celine's absolutely maginificient interpretation that combines vulnerability and strength. And I would argue there is no other singer who could do this song as brilliantly as Celine - which is my main problem with the 'bubblegum pop' songs on the album: Celine sings them well, because she is Celine, but there are dozens of other singers who could do an (almost) equally good job. In other words, these songs are not special, they are generic. Having said this, I think I made my peace with this. On all French albums, there have been 2-3 songs I liked a bit less; on EUS there are 4-5. So it is less satisfactory to me than other French albums, but it still is a decent record. I must simply tell myself that Celine is after all a pop singer, for better and worse - and that means she has albums that are a bit more eccletic than I would prefer, as she tries to please all her fans. And the discussions in the forum demonstrate this perfectly: we all want different stuff, so it's impossible that everyone is happy. Edited August 30, 2016 at 12:34 PM by enno2007 2 Quote

I agree with the vast majority of what you wrote. Bravo! The only two things I'd like to comment on: Ordinaire - sure, LBDB wasn't all that well as a studio recording in comparison with the live version, but it was well produced. Ordinaire sounds strange, like a strange demo that ended up being the actual recording. What you mentioned about her imitating the BeeGees. I found that in immortality she did that in the beggining of the song and then in the chorus when she sang along with them, to fit in, but she did broke from it every once in a while ("fulfill you destiny...") Here I find her sounding like Zaho the entire time. Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/CallingYou/shadowoflovesig-1.jpg

I couldn't disagree me with Mrs.Goldman's attitude, still it's interesting to read her opinion because she really explains her opinion. Anyway, I am still very much in love with this beautiful album. I also hope Celine will continue working with Zaho. She now needs to choose L'Etoile or Ma Faille as a second single and then we have to pray for yet another successful single so that she will perform those songs live at some point. 6 Quote Et la vie glisse sur l'eau du tempsLa vie resiste, prend son elanPour un baiser elle peut se poserLe temps qui compte est toujours compte http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f248/ARMOIT/celinechances-1.png

Mrs.Goldman Posted August 30, 2016 at 01:32 PM Posted August 30, 2016 at 01:32 PM IMO it is about time you stop listening to Celine and go support other singers. Why? because he is obligated to love each and every song in an album? I happen to agree with him (with the exception of je nous veux which I like), these songs are weak songs and don't deserve to be in an album that has enough budget and a singer who has enough talented people wanting to write better songs for her. You have no right to tell a person who should they like or not. Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/CallingYou/shadowoflovesig-1.jpg
