Céline under attack for using playback

Eitherway - you seem to be everywhere, Kev.... could it be that I also saw you on the "Pam Ann"-DVD? (which I brought from my last London-trip and it almost killed me because it is one of the funniest things I have seen - ever)

 

Lol yes it is me.... loved the show but didn't like it when she pulled me up on stage - although i'll let u in on a little secret - it was all lipped!!!! he he he he! (not) Maybe i should get an agent... i'm not getting paid for any of these dvd's lol!!

I´ll bounce back in to the "Go, Celine" - cheering chorus when she decides to something appealing artistically - but the way it looks now it seems that I can rest for quite some time.

I met with the producer of the Pam DVD and i asked about All By Myself on the DVD - they wanted to use Celine's version and wrote to her management but after they found out that Pam was going to snort Cocaine at the climax they said they would rather not associate Celine with drugs!! :-) so they had to get someone else to sing it - same with From LA to NY - but the lipping/occasional singing was deliberate.

 

Sorry I digress.

 

Did you also know that the Kids bit in LTAL was lipped too? :-)

 

Anyway - i think i'm going to give up on this topic now also - I'm just looking forward to see the show in Sept - hopefully with new costumes!!! yay!!!

I was expecting the choir to from tape - yes.

But honestly - I thought that the whole LTAL-concert was live - bit naive, right?

 

First time I took notice of it was when I had the Vegas-DVD - it is extremely obvious there I think.

 

Such a shame.

 

However - enjoy the costumes - you should be familiar with the tapes already

Yes - wasn´t that terrible? I have never seen the stadium to be so empty at any concert before. Even after they relocated everything and turned the stage it still was empty.

I really wonder why everywhere in the world Céline is performing in front of huge crowds but not here in Germany. In Stuttgart there were only about 6000 people attending the concert. That's just nothing! I have never ever seen such an empty hall at a concert. It was a shame, really!! What's the problem? I really have no idea! Tina Turner for example will do 16 shows here next year and they all sold out so quickly! By the way, I will see her in Munich on February 24th. Let's see what she has to offer.

I've seen a friend today who workes for the Belgian newspaper who brought the news about the playback issue. I've asked about the thing and asked if they contacted the management to get a reaction. They did and they also never received an answer to their question... So they are letting the story go unless they get a decent answer after all. I don't know about the other newspaper who brought the news also but I think they also didn't get any answer...

let me just say this hey, there is NO such thing as lipsynching. it's all a myth, falacy and any other word you might want to conjure up. the word lipsynching derives from the silent movies era, aka 1920's.

i have just watched LV and i've noticed that celine doesn't need to thump, slap, pound her chest when she sings MHWGO. that means she is so well tuned into the song she does it with such ease.

 

in factual act, i've just got off the phone with celine.........she knows my number and i know hers. this is how the conversation went:

me: sure

celine: you mustn't listen to all this lipsyncing nonsense. i call all my shows silent movies. this is how you supposed to watch my dvd's/videos. you put them into the machine and then you put the record into the phonogram. much like they did in the 1920's. bah what doe those people e.g. sophoan etc know!

I also wanted to add that I've heard stories of things happening during RDMH (little glitches it varies) that makes me think it's live but then I listen to bootlegs and it usually sounds the same atleast to me so that makes me think it's lipped. Maybe I'm not listening close enough to notice the differences maybe it's just the quality of the bootlegs I've found I don't know...Sorry for the double post but it wouldn't let me edit my original post.

I adore this woman. Being able to witness her vocal ability live is truly stunning - and I've been lucky enough to do so a few times in my life. Listening to live performances at her vocal peak will always keep my a Celine Dion fan....

 

With that said, it makes me a little sick to see how many songs are lipped. Yes - it's still amazing to be at her show - with the lights, energy, and with her RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. And I'm so grateful for the songs she sings live - and the huge energy she has throughout the show. And I would gladly forgive her for a couple of playback songs - to give herself a break, keep her vocal chords in decent shape for the rest of the shows, etc. - but I'm so bitterly unhappy about the amount of playback she's using. It will not keep me from going to the shows, or buying tickets - but it does make me question the amount of thinking Celine herself does about her career.

 

If I were her, I would cut out the playback completely. And if she has to keep some, RE-RECORD NEW PLAYBACK. I would create a medley of The Power of Love, To Love You More, I Drove All Night, and It's All Coming Back To Me Now. My Heart Will Go On should be live - people expect to hear this song, and she can get through it. OR make a movie-song medley like her CBS special in 2002.

 

Cut out any other songs that playback and replace them with simpler songs. All By Myself revolved around that ONE note - and it's LIPPED - so cut the song if she can't hit it. "Something" from her CBS special this year would be a stunning, simple addition (like "Because" during her LTAL tour).

 

Her team AND Celine need to realize that this can all be fixed with rather simple changes - considering the amount of damage it COULD do - and is beginning to happen already.

Exactelly - I think her voice has aged very well and I think she actually sounds better and warmer than ever. This screaming for the high notes is a bit outdated anyways, isn´t it?

I think the more "unspectacular" songs vocalwise like "My love" suit her so well - if she would sing her old songs in Celine-2008-style it would be perfect - and even me being the critical butt her wouldn´t ask for a better stage or anything, it would be more then enough to hear her the way she sounds these days, live, not the way she sounded 15 years ago on tape.

I actually think this lipping orgie is because she STILL does care about technique, and hitting the RIGHT notes, and especially with ease. Unlike most of you I believe she can't sing as well as before and therefor this lipsynching is being used as a life line. Now don't get me wrong, I DO believe she still can sing well, and sometimes even much better due to her voice is much more mature - but not with as much ease as before.

 

And that's where all this lipping hysteria has it's source: she wont to prove she still can sing and wants to have as many songs possible in the setlist, and in order for this tour to go as smoothe as possible, with as few risks as possible she chooses to lip this vast amount of songs.
