Singing wonder Celine Dion playbacks her heart out

 

Heated discussions on the Internet: does the Canadian singer Celine Dion, who continues to be one of the most virtuoso voices in pop music, playback during her concerts or not? Even the biggest fans are doubting now, due to a series YouTubeclips, where the diva appears to be unmasked.

 

 

Three movies circulating since a few weeks on YouTube. In these clips montages of one Bennybay are involving two versions of the same song simultaneously played. Although Dion brought with them years inbetween, there is little or no audible difference. In the song 'The Power Of Love' differs only the first stanza in the two performances, but from the first chorus sings Dion as from a throat. Two versions of, respectively, 'To Love You More "and" My Heart Will Go On' from the first to the last note identical.

 

"You need a great singer for singing exactly the same notes in exactly the same time be able to sing with intervening years. Unless someone pretends she sings, of course, " says Bennybay.

 

The reactions to the montages the battle between believers and nonbelievers is very acrimonious.

 

"Without any doubt playback," says Harald Vanherf. The Diepenbekenaar mixes the sound of the stage at concerts Zornik, Sioen and Tim Vanhamel. "The most striking example is" The Power Of Love ": the first stanza she does live. But once the difficult, high chorus begins, the tape takes over. "

 

I do wonder how this might be taken over by the world. I think her official management should come with a statement about the reason why they choose to do this. It could turn ugly!

 

I think she should stop with singing full songs in playback... some parts... oke... but damn, she's the best damn singer out there! If she doesn't want to 'sing' the songs she's playbacking, just cut them out!

to zoe en darren...well yeah I know that a lot of stars do it..... but the problem is, that the press'll never be as harsh on Madonna, Britney, Mariah etc then they would be on Céline! She always had to fight and proove what she is capable of! Plus, she is always called one of the best live performers

 

to cannonball... yeah but what if she is attacked for it? they can't ignore it! and they can't say it isn't so...

To be honest, Celine can never do right for doing wrong. Everything that she does they have to find fault with. have they sold a 220 million albums, no, have they performed sold out shows in vegas for 5 years, no, have they been in showbusiness for 27 years and remained the biggest and best female singer of all time, no, well, they can all crane there little necks in and shut up then , cant they.

if they do that, René officially lost it!

 

No I didn't say she should not do more vocally challinging songs, look at Alone, The Show Must Go On, Je Sais Pas etc... she does it sooo well! She should cut the "automatic pilot' songs like TPOL, MHWGO, IACBTMN, TLYM etc and sing new songs, which makes it fresh and fun for her and her band again!

Calm down. Nothing so disastrous won't happen. Everybody lips these days + she isn't lipping the whole concert. This might be consider as a vocal rest during the concert. I guess if she lips these songs she needs 2-3 minutes to rest her voice. It's not easy to sing 2 hours non-stop. This is like Mariah's accident on ''Good Morning America''. funny how wise and genius are the audiences now. i can't see anything wrong in playbacking, as it prevented the artists from overusing their voice during the tour. but in celine's case, even the non-fan can easilly notice it. she's been using the chorus part of TPOL since Al'Olympia. but in this article, i really don't know what will happen next. if celine's team will give an official statement regarding this issue, possibilities are, people will turn their backs on celine and think they've been cheated by her for a very long time, or much worse is that everybody will doubt she can sing her songs live. i watched Christina Aguilera's Back to Basics Tour yesterday in YouTube, and i must confess, she earned my admiration for not using playbacks as often as celine does. (i do think all her performances were performed live)

 

this is sad. but who knows? she's celine dion, who was never been criticized for "voice deterioration" like MC and Whitney.

Sorry, but I have no sympathy for this cause. Her lipsynching has gotten completely out of hand this last year. She's lipped all her specials and most of her TV appearances (and for "saving" her voice as much as she does by lipping, her live appearances aren't anything to really write home about at that), and now she's gone into robot mode in concert and lips half the songs there. I would rather hear her lower the keys 5 steps if she can't sing them anymore if it means singing them live, or cutting out any song with a big note. I think something needs to happen, because she's gotten so used to it now she doesn't even have to worry about singing anymore and SHE'S A SINGER. It's like she shows up to these things and mimes and then leaves, I haven't seen any appearance that her heart has been in. I'm sick and tired of it. I know it sounds harsh, and it doesn't mean I don't love her anymore, but I believe it's that very fact that makes me so irate. I want to hear her sing so much and when she moves her lips to a cd track or a 15 year old prerecorded track, it just makes me so disappointed! I think she needs a scandal so she stops doing it. There are too many people around her letting it happen so naturally it's happening more and more because they think nobody notices. If they find out that more people realize than they think, maybe they'll actually stop doing it!

i think she should reconsider her setlist for something more fresh and more updated, she cant go on singing the same old songs TPOL, IACBTM, TLYM & MHWGO....her team should think about putting them in something more compact, whicg doesnt eat 2 halfs of the show, like a special medley whatever....

erm she always did that! even in her 90ies years she lipped the specials and tv appearances! sometimes it's just impossible to sing live at a tv show, plus sony wants that 'what people hear, is what they get on the album'

well I don't agree with all, it is a bit harsh, but have you actually attended a show from this tour? mp3's and youtube videos doesn't do the show justice! I saw her 6 times and every time she got to me, even though I knew some parts were lipped. there is way too much negativity around the show!

 

I do agree though on the fact that something has to change... and i can't escape the feeling that that something is someone and yeah maaaaybe... maaaaaybe a scandal is needed in order to change the current situation

Oh lordy I hope this doesnt get out of hand. A statement would make things worse I think. She def needs to make a diff choice which songs she will be singing live I do feel. If she cant sing TPOL every nite dont sing it or only sing it every other show. We'll just have to see what happens with this article.

LOL, everybody knows that she sings playback, it's not that you can expect her to do a press conference and say: "Beloved people, i do playback on some of my live songs....Do you wish to know which of them?"

Strange though, from the way everything sounded on the 16th May, when I saw her in Antwerp, nothing was lipped. With the sound as it was then, it was vertually impossible.

I know she does lipsync, but I can honestly say, I don't think she did it on any of her concerts when I saw here.

With reports of her having vocal problems, I do understand she would revert to some lipping. It's a tricky siuation, you know. It really just depends on why she's doing it.
