Nothing! How could you possibly bring it up in conversation without it totally ruining any chance you had of talking to her? The conversation would end right then. And any letter making those kind of accusations would never make it into her hand. And besides, she clearly thinks her fans no nothing about it. How could she possibly get on stage each night and pretend to sing if she thought people knew? She couldn't. She has absolute faith in Rene and her team and since she leaves everything to them, she just gets on stage and does it and doesn't give it a second thought. At least she has some respect for her Montreal fans if not for her European audience. Lucky you guys who attended her least mimed concert. Though, why not sing the entire concert live? I used to think that was a given that everything is sung live in a concert, not anymore.

 

I love her ABM live performance in Montreal! That's the Celine I love!

I watched IDAN from Montreal on youtube and it surely sounds different to her previous prerecorded version. I thought this was live. Are you implying she recorded a new playback track for IDAN?

This is getting ridiculous. How can some people, after 21 pages, STILL be denying that Celine uses playback or even worse defending her for doing so.

 

Thomas, I completely agree with you in that we here are amongst her biggest fans and not her enemies as some suggest. The fact that we are noticing and are disagreeing with the playback doesn't mean we hate or dislike Celine, it means we are sorely disappointed that we dont get to hear her perform live. The "oh we're hearing 75% of the show live" excuse just does not stand up in my book. That's not good enough.

 

As paying fans, loyal fans, we deserve better than that.

Unfortunately - I think Celine is relying a lot on the overall spectacle of the show - the lights, dancers, loud music, roaring fans, etc. And with that, she feels as though it excuses her to use playback on most of the difficult songs. And for MOST people - it works. People are walking away from this concert feeling as though they got more than their money's worth.

 

But this is the burden of being such a huge fan. We know all the behind-the-scenes stuff. And it kind of tarnishes it a bit.

 

As one of her biggest fans(as we all are), I see both sides to the playback. It would be hard as hell to sing the songs in the set list live every night. Impossible for anyone. And if she tried, the songs would sound like crap and her chords would be fried.

 

With that said, I think those songs should be made into a medley - a simple, short rendition of some of her biggest hits. Then add easier, but just as powerful and pretty songs (like "Something" or "Because" of the Beatles).

Indeed indeed! This would be the ultimate. "Something" from the CBS Special was oh so wonderful, wish she'd do more song like this - "honest songs" rather than show off songs. She has already shown off, people know she can sing like no other, and both fans and the general public is tired of this over the top side of her (which she no longer suits her hense the playback), so what's the prob with movin on and doing other fine songs than pounding out the same old stuf which by now has lost all of its soul (even more so when it's 10 year old playback tracks).

 

If only she knew we don't care about the "over the top" anymore, I wish she could relax and just have fun and sing songs with more meaning to her, which expresses what she wants to express. Rather than right now when she's just an old record on repeat.

Forget the technical aspects of the show , just enjoy it. Are we not fans due to her music and the person she is? She is there on the stage, thats all i care about . That is not what I am implying at all; I surely wouldn't know if she pre-recorded a new track.

 

The only thing I am insinuating is if IDAN was live, you would hear her somewhat nasal voice on the low notes. In my opinion, the only reason it sounds "different" is because of the proper use of equipment to videotape whereas digital cameras make it sound slightly different (i.e., the echos of the arena), if that's what you mean. TV stations such as TVA recorded that song and it sounds the same to me, unfortunately. Throughout the world tour, I've become so accustomed to the playback version of IDAN that it doesn't sound different to me at all. Although if it were live, it would be amazing (as seen on Oprah).

I doubt Celine will get lots of bad press about this issue because people in the music industry know how it works. And if they discredit Celine, most of the singers out there would also be blamed!! The difference is that Celine CAN sing live while other divas just can't and they make a living doing so (from fake studio voice to concerts)!! Celine has proved the world she can sing anything she wants live, and we have seen it on award shows, the Oscars and in concerts. But she can't do it every single day! That's the difference...

 

And the Martin guy from Munich is not much better than a singer that lips because he just keeps singing the same song over and over and is quite nasty... Nothing wrong with expressing your opinion, but the bitchy attitude HAS to go!!

Thats what you call a lie. I am sure I will get attacked for saying that - but I am used to that. Although people here demand to see the witch (=me) burning - I am flameproof, no chance

I am sure they payed the hell a lot of cash to shut up this drummer who brought this to light at the time.

And they always brought up this law suit against this drummer which never happened just to make it seem like the drummer is lying.

 

This could be also a reason (other than the fact that nobody is really interested in her) that the papers are very carefull with that subject - they want their reports to be bulletproof because they might get sued big time if it wouldn´t be true.

 

She might not care about her reputation as an artist anymore but she cares about money (well, the old man next to her does). They are soaking out the last cent out of her back catalogue - with maximum profit (old tapes, dished out over and over again for extremely high prices, spiced with a few new things = happy hardcore fans and a growing bank account).

 

I know how harsh it sounds - and it is meant that way.

 

I just can´t believe what happened to her, to the quality she used to deliver. Gone.
