Andrei Dion Posted November 21, 2007 at 02:26 PM Posted November 21, 2007 at 02:26 PM Poeple, try to calm down and try not to complain that much. Everybody already knew that Alicia would be #1 in the charts.Reasons: - she is played all the time in MTV Hits - she's promoted there too- her style of music is one of the most played in the world nowadays- the expectative to her new album was huge I think that's normal. I'm actualy not disappointed with Taking Chances started in #3. That's not a bad position at all. If it sold 206k, this is more normal as most of the albuns nowadays leads the charts with this selling mark. It's not that worry. So relax. Let's see how things go. And I'm sure she will reach good position with this album, even that she doesn't need to be always on #1 or to prove how good she is to everybody. I'm happy for her Quote AMO CÉLINE CADA VEZ MAIS!!!
celine_026 Posted November 21, 2007 at 02:33 PM Posted November 21, 2007 at 02:33 PM (edited) Im totally relaxed. I'm sure all of the people here are too. We did our part, we told people about this album like freaks,we bought many versions, copies, singles,we've talked about it like nuts. If the average person does not apreciated it...Well, don't know what to say anymore. And I guess we are not complaining, cos there's no one to complain;we're just speaking about this fantastic thing that just happened. Celine at 3# place. This thing is huge because happened to HER. I'm fond of many other artists like...John Mayer, who only had only one song in 1#and he's still great. It doesn't say anything about this album. It's still her best since falling into you/let's talk about love Edited November 21, 2007 at 02:37 PM by marcospriateli Quote http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/1098/power01eq1.jpg

Xpresso Posted November 21, 2007 at 03:17 PM Posted November 21, 2007 at 03:17 PM Guys, come on! It's NOT bad at all!! Look at the other big names on the TOP 10 and some of them are real big stars too!! It was the WORST week of the year to release an album so you can't just look at #3 and be disappointed. If it had been a month ago, Celine would have been #1. Bruce Springsteen was #1 a month ago with around 80,000 copies!! So relax... It's not just about the chart position. It's actually good in a way that she's not #1. Why? Because people hate success and will say "not her again"!! So now, Celine is doing her thing, selling pretty well (not like before but it's normal) and the album will keep moving steadily... She's a bit more low key but still THERE!!! And don't forget Alicia is American, Celine isn't... It does have an effect. And Alicia's style of music is the in-thing now but let's see how well she'll sell when she's 40 years old... Quote

Looking at what's "in" these days - that it's r'n'b and hip hop all over again I'm absolutely not surprised with Alicia being at #1 and I'm VERY happy that despite all this Céline managed debuting at #3!! :D She still IS huge and beloved!!! :D  Quote Visit me on Facebook 14th & 16th May 2008 - Antwerp Sportpaleis24th & 25th May 2008 - Paris Bercy2nd June 2008 - Amsterdam ArenA12th June 2008 - Berlin Waldbühne18th June 2008 - Köln Arena20th June 2008 - Hamburg Colorline Arena28th June 2008 - Kraków Błonia Park1st July 2008 - Vienna Stadthalle15th, 16th, 19th & 20th August 2008 - Montréal Bell Centre10th, 15th & 16th March 2011 - Las Vegas Caesars Palace ColosseumJ'étais là pour toi, Céline! There are big band and singers out this week that have sold much less WE SHOULD BE PRAISING CELINE FOR BEING SOMEONE THAT ALTHOUGH WE HAVE SOME NEW STYLES ON THE ALBUM, SHE HAS STUCK HER GROUND NEVER CHANGED BECAUSE CURRENT TRENDS DEMAND IT. Well Done to Celine on such a great first week and the entertainment she has provided us on her promotional tour. All of this shouldnt be about sales IT IS ABOUT MUSIC and it is about us fans being entertained by the singer we love most. I COMMEND HER Quote

LuisMa Posted November 21, 2007 at 05:13 PM Posted November 21, 2007 at 05:13 PM Billboard.com: Keys Storms Chart With Mega-Selling 'As I Am' by Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. Alicia Keys storms The Billboard 200 this week with "As I Am" (J), which debuts at No. 1 after selling 742,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That's the best sales week for a solo female artist since Norah Jones' "Feels Like Home" shifted 1 million copies in 2004. In a week where every top 10 album shifted more than 100,000 units, Josh Groban's "Noel" (143/Reprise) zooms 6-2 with a 93% increase to 223,000. Celine Dion's "Taking Chances" (Columbia), her first new pop album in four years, opens at No. 3 with 214,000. The multi-label, multi-artist "Now 26" collection is new at No. 4 with 208,000, the third lowest opening tally for the "Now" line. Garth Brooks' "The Ultimate Hits" (Pearl) slips 3-5 (-42%, 204,000), while the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" (Eagles Recording Co.) drops 2-6 (-45%, 197,000). Led Zeppelin's two-disc retrospective "Mothership" (Swan Song/Atlantic) debuts at No. 7 after selling 136,000, 25% of which came digitally. Last week's chart-topper, Jay-Z's "American Gangster" (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam) plummets 1-8 with a 70% decrease to 131,000, while Carrie Underwood's "Carnival Ride" (Arista Nashville) drops 5-9 despite a small 6% decrease to 113,000. Chris Brown's "Exclusive" (Jive) falls 4-10 in its second week, thanks to a 63% decline to 110,000. Comedian Dane Cook's "Rough Around the Edges: Live From Madison Square Garden" (Comedy Central) debuts at No. 11 with 90,000. His last set, 2005's "Retaliation," made history as the highest debuting comedy album in the history of The Billboard 200 when it bowed at No. 4. That effort started with 86,000. At No. 12, the Killers enter the chart with the rarities collection "Sawdust" (Island), which sold 82,000. George Strait's "22 More Hits" (MCA Nashville) is new at No. 13 with 80,000, while James Taylor's debut for Starbucks' Hear Music imprint, "One Man Band," arrives at No. 16 with 63,000. Five other albums open inside the top 40 this week, led by Boyz II Men's "Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA" (Decca) at No. 27 with 42,000. Right behind are Trisha Yearwood's "Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love" (Big Machine, No. 30, 33,000), Goo Goo Dolls' "Greatest Hits, Volume 1, The Singles" (Warner Bros., No. 33, 33,000), Seal's "System" (Warner Bros., No. 35, 30,000) and Duran Duran's "Red Carpet Massacre" (Epic, No. 36, 29,000). Album sales are up 17.9% from last week's to 11.72 million, but down 6.2% from the same week last year Quote

PS: difference between celine & josh is not that huge. but with alicia, it is HUGE... Amazing! AMAZING! There is no other word to describe this! Alicia Keys‘ new album, As I Am, has done EVEN BETTER than expected. The Soundscan numbers are in and Alicia sold an astonishing 742,426 copies in the U.S. since its release last week. That’s massive! It’s also THREE times as many copies as the #2 disc sold. And coming in second - somewhat of a surprise - is Josh Groban. His Christmas album Noel sold a very healthy 223,306 copies. And it’s already been out a few weeks! Groban’s appearance on Oprah yesterday will likely ensure him equally big numbers next week and throughout the holiday season. Celine Dion’s first album of new material, Taking Chances, came in 3rd, selling 214,381 copies. And, poor Britney Spears, isn’t even in the top 10 anymore. She’s not even in the top 20! Britney came in at an incredibly disappointing #23, selling 51,520 copies. CLICK HERE to check out this week’s entire Top 10. P.S. The Alicia album really is amazing. William2005 Posted November 21, 2007 at 08:17 PM Posted November 21, 2007 at 08:17 PM Yes she did have tons of promotion, but the problem was that it was all at the wrong time. Sony should have been promoting the album in the weeks prior to the release like Alicia's did. The only promo Celine got was the Oprah show the day before the release. Anyone who didn't watch the Oprah show wouldn't even know she had a new album out. So for all things considered this number isn't horrible although it could have been alot better. Quote

kdw123 Posted November 21, 2007 at 08:52 PM Posted November 21, 2007 at 08:52 PM I think this is a really good start. Congrats Celine! I agree that there was really no promotion at all in the US before the album was released except for the Oprah Show (which was one day before). Most people did not even know Celine had a new CD coming out. Sony should have ran commercials and print ads in the weeks before the CD was released and that would have boosted sales for the first week. Instead over the last two weeks, Celine has been working her butt off running around promoting the CD and I think that will help the sales over the next few weeks. The good thing is that if the CD stays steady and in the top 5 for several weeks that would be great. A lot of times she has been in the top 5 the first weeks and then dropped really fast out of the top 10 a few weeks later. Hopefully she will stay in the top 5 thru Christmas and then if they release a new single after Christmas that will hopefully continue to keep her CD at the top until her CBS special airs in February. thevoice Posted November 21, 2007 at 08:56 PM Author Posted November 21, 2007 at 08:56 PM (edited) the most effective promotion is around the time of the release...without her endless TV appereances she could never debut at 3 , not even at 30 - that's the situation so just deal with it long term promotion is even more important but the most important thing is a hit!!! they chose the wrong single to promote this album and i said it right from the start - each one of the songs on this album could be a better first single...just imagine her singing "fade away" or "this time" time after time during this latest promotional gig - she could have a much better first week... the one thing they did right here is her tv appereances - just in time and in all the right places - without it , it could be much much worse...now we have to pray for a hit and for long term promotion .
