"Taking Chances" ALBUM on the charts

This is not only Sonys fault. Celine's music is not all-liked anymore. The single doesn't flop, because Sony doesn't support it enough, but because people don't really like it. And if people don't like the music they don't buy it. It's insane to always blame Sony for everything. We have to accept, that the general public is not crazy about Celine anymore. Still for an artist with a career of 25 years first week sales of what? around 500k are impressive. We should be proud of Celine. Many people might've been scared off by this new image. And imagine someone bought One heart and Miracle. They were prbably dissappointed and so they don't buy TC in the first week. But they may notice sometime later, that this album is better than its processors...

 

BTW if she released some weeks earlier, she'd be #1 in France,Switzerland and better in most of the other countries. But Sony decided to release it this week. Probably in preparation for Xmas.

 

I agree... Except for the: Celine's music is not like anymore. Well maybe the single track Taking chances. But what about the sound of the new album ? N.O.T.H.I.NG

 

I never saw such a bad promotion. If someone has to be blamed, it's René and Céline. I mean, it's so pretentious to think that the only important thing is to do all the most important shows, while you haven't prepared anything new to introduce ! René is always saying : Ho Celine will do Oprah, Dancing with the stars, The view... But she isn't capable of introducing this new album at all. She is killing this album, that's it !

 

She has in her hand one of the most amazing album she has ever done, she worked with Perry, Ne yo, Tricky, Dioguardi, Shanks...She tried blues, folk, acoustic music...She has a new Tour... But nothing about that. Instead, she speaks about how she is happy to go on tour with her 80 years old mother and her son. And about the new album ? Nada ! Nothing.

 

We know what the problem is : TIME. René knew that... In consequence, she had to do less show, in order to be able to prepare 3/4 tracks of the new album : For example: The full track Alone, Right Next, Woman in me, This time, My love. That's what people want. When I see Alicia Keys doing amazing live performance, I'm amazed; that's a real artist ! And even if I'm not to much into her music I want to buy and listen her album!

 

That's a very pretentious, non professionnal and populist way of doing promotion. And Celine needs a coach for the interview !

 

That's a pity, because this album doesn't have any commercial single !!! BUT BUT BUT and it's maybe more important, this album has a huge live potential. And she had all of the most important show to introduce those new songs ! Now it's over, it's a big waste !

 

 

Yup. They don't know how this is done anymore. This business, much as they'd like to think otherwise, is completely foreign from the one they left and they don't know how to handle it. The music industry is so not about talent alone anymore that you expect people to go find themselves.

I am FUMING mad!! Damn Sony!! They should be ashamed of themselves! They have signed the Worlds BESTSELLING female artist and they let this happen??

 

Dont tell me its because of the lack of Celine appearances. She will appear or has appeared on nearly all the same shows as before. Did the switch to Columbia do this in the US?! Here are my reasons for such a disappointing beginning:

 

-Celine's website sucks balls! They aren't up-to-the-date. They don't even know where Celine is half the time!! The MySpace is a good start but they should have gone so much farther. Look at other artists official websites and myspace pages... They've got some major promotional tie ins to push an albums sales! Carrie Underwood sends personal videos to her myspace friends and they have contests for the fans to win a spot as top friend or a trip or a CD...

 

-I haven't see ONE poster in ANY music stores advertising her CD release. Not ONE! Not even a small one with all the other small ads for CDs coming. I mean, I saw a HUGE freaking Ashley Tisdale poster but no Celine?

 

-WalMart didn't have those gawdy posters hanging over their security sensors announcing that they would have the exclusive DVD.

 

-I can't even FIND a copy of the CD/DVD version ANYWHERE and WalMarts supply of the CD is almost non-existant!!

 

-Sony released it the same day as their very own Alicia Keys AND 'Now Music' which they knew would hit Celine hard!!!

 

-Sony SHOULD have flooded stores with posters, window clings, Contests, samplers, CD singles, calendars, pins, a new Collectors Series (i had to throw that in...hey, it would help boost sales). People should walk into a store and -BAM- Celine's bare chest and big hair should be staring them in the face saying 'Buy this chest... buy taking chances'

 

 

In conclusion, as with everything, I HATE SONY! But I love Celine so whatcha gonna do?

 

 

get over it... people are becoming so annoying about this.. bitching and complaining.. oh yeah and the cd/dvd is at beestbuy, and circuit city, did you check there?? she has a huge fan base.. and the tickets for the us.. are in most states sold out.. what are you complaining for.. so what.. sales arn't going as planned.. obviously something is going right if her concerts for a new tour next year.. and getting sold out already.. am i correct? i mean i am not sure how sales are on tickets for the other countries but in the us.. they are almost completely sold out.. in boston i think it was.. it sold out in 30 mins. she must be doing something right.. even if sony sucks.. get over it.

sorry if my post sounded harsh.. but it's not like you didn't know this would happen.. yes i do say her cd "taking chances" is by far her best.. i love every single song.. and unfortunantly the young generation isn't all there.. and not buying it.. but her fan base is huge!! even if she doesn't sale 5 million copies or whatever.. its ok.. we all know how great the cd is.. and with all the tv appearances and the concert coming next year.. things will pick up more.. just calm down everyone! yes i do agree, sony sucks.. but i am not going to keep complaining about it.

#3 isn't so bad. As more people become aware that the album is out there (again, she really only promoted the album the same week it came out), the numbers could increase. She's doing more promotion next week.

How does iTunes come in to play with charts? For example a friend of mine said he downloaded several tracks from the album, but not the entire album. So two questions: 1. If you buy the tracks seperately and not as a whole album, does any of that go towards album sales? 2. If so, is there a minimum # of tracks you have to buy for it to count as a full album sale?

Just ONE THING my dear. Look at Mariah. (and I'm talking serious) She is the perfect example of what a GREAT MARKETING TEAM can do. She was completly lost and nobody was giving a s*** for her. But ther "new" record label made her the most important singer of 2005 and the game completly change. So it's SONY's FAULT. If Sony really wanted this album to be a hit, they could do that. Nothing more to say.

Well I decided to write coz I'm pretty disappointed not from Celine but from fans here. Have all of you realized that a number 3 position in the U.S charts is a huge thing????????? And to be more accurate maybe this is not the final position as it's also a 20% left to be considered- these numbers refer only to the 80%, right????Have you realized that Celine is the only one in this top 10 that is not a native english speaker and that she remains one of the worlds bigger sellers only thanks to a huge fan base and a promo of only 1 week???????There are other fans , mainly french ones that complain for the No 2 position in the French charts, but in the number 1 appears not an English album but a French one and a French album by Mr Hallyday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't really care about the # of sales, what I'd REALLY like to know is how many downloaded the album illegally... we all know there are a LOT of closeted fans out there on some sites you can see the # of dowloads, I'm not gonna mention what site I looked at, but when I combined the numbers they were way over 200k.. and that's just one site/less than 10 torrents...

 

so I def. don't think it's a flop, but I wish more people bougth the real thing instead... but still, she's popular...

I thought it was clear it wasnt an answer to your post it was a seperate thought. JLO who has always been big, her last album "Brave" flopped and she is big selling female artist. Celine has sold more in 1 week than JLO has in 6 weeks.

 

MY POINT IS CELINE IS MORE RELEVANT THAN MOST OF THE FEMALE singers around at the moment and shows she can sell like the best. She is massive even still
