Here’s how things are shaping up for tomorrow's Top 10: #2: Josh Groban (Reprise), 230k; #3: Celine Dion (Columbia), 206k; #4: Now 26 (EMM), 202k; #5: Garth Brooks (Pearl), 200k; #6: Eagles (self-release), 185k; #7: Led Zeppelin (Rhino/Atlantic), 134k; #8: Jay-Z (Roc-A-Fella/IDJ), 120k; #9: Carrie Underwood: (Arista Nashville); and 10) Chris Brown (Jive/ZLG) 100k. Of course it's not a flop, but imagine if Sony had put some posters out there like they used to years and years ago? But it's still great that she comes in at #3 (hoping Billboard won't be lower tomorrow) in the US. Can't wait to find out what the numbers are for Canada tomorrow...

 

Oh, and to answer the person who commented that there won't be Grammy nominations for Celine next year, album sales have NOTHING to do with nominations... It sure helps but nominations are not based on sales.

Don't you think that... a person that buy a 150 dolar ticket will be compelled to

rush and buy her new cd? I don't think so.

Don't understand what René is trying to do. If this cd doesn't bare 1 million copies sold

Some people here in the forum are upset because some of us are disappointed by the sales of "Taking Chances" in the upcoming weeks, but we've gotta be honest in several aspects:

- Alicia Keys topped the album charts with an outstanding 700+k figure. Could Celine have sold that much? ABSOLUTELY.

- "No One" is going to be number 1 on the Hot 100. Could a new Celine song have pulled that off? ABSOLUTELY

- Does the Las Vegas stint have anything to do with Celine's dismal sales? ABSOLUTELY ... NOT

 

Even a few weeks ago, and before Britney's album was moved, I was fearing Celine would debut behind her and Alicia Keys. The problem? Not too much visibility from Celine in the media, virtually zero posters, little promo, no massive TV ads. And yes, she did Oprah and Ellen, and yes I was ecstatic she was doing that, but she probably turned down several new and old potential buyers by singing old tunes. Then, the first single is virtually ignored by radio, and though it's improving a little week after week, it's not a bonafide hit.

 

There are many people in other artists' forum discussing Celine's flop as being influenced by her long run in Las Vegas, that her career is over because of that. That's pretty &%%$?=%6$ ! "One Heart" and "Miracle" did great while she was there, and the former would have done a million times better if she had promoted it all over TV and the world.

 

IMHO, what is going on is just because the wrong decisions were taken. But still this album has so much amazing potential I just hope they don't throw it all away. And to close, do I love Celine? I love her with all my heart and will keep buying everything she puts out!!!

At the music store, they have the CDs stacked in order of which they're on the charts, and the have a number label beside them. Celine's had #2.

this album isn't a flop by any means. for it to have sold this much with a single that hardly anyone's heard - isn't too bad. And once she gets a new single and video out there - then the album will pick up sales again. It will be on the charts for a while...

Number two in her home, Canada.

 

She was 1# with D'elles. OMG, and D'elles sold only 500 thousand cds

The worst part is... THE CD IS GREAT, as for D'elles.

this gel is beautiful, young, cool, talented both vocally and musically

she's been sort a comtempary phenomanon in the american music industry recently

there are dozens of examples like alicia in the music history, and some of them may mantain that kind of state while most of them just disappear after a few years

and i have a feeling that alicia is still going to rock the world for a long time

 

celine, ok, she may not be young nor cool and is often criticized

but guess what! she's been in the business for 25 years!

there must be something special about her, don't u think so

she doesn't sell as crazy as she used to do, but she runs steady like a big big river

 

ask what alicia think of celine, the answer will be "respect"

ask what celine think of alicia, the answer will be "she's a cool girl" or "she can sing" or "she writes good music"

 

that's the difference

Well I decided to write coz I'm pretty disappointed not from Celine but from fans here. Have all of you realized that a number 3 position in the U.S charts is a huge thing????????? And to be more accurate maybe this is not the final position as it's also a 20% left to be considered- these numbers refer only to the 80%, right????Have you realized that Celine is the only one in this top 10 that is not a native english speaker and that she remains one of the worlds bigger sellers only thanks to a huge fan base and a promo of only 1 week???????There are other fans , mainly french ones that complain for the No 2 position in the French charts, but in the number 1 appears not an English album but a French one and a French album by Mr Hallyday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you think that if Celine released a french album and an english one the same week French people would decide to pick up the English one??????????? Taking Chances- the song, cannot be called a hit but facts show that she is one of the few artists that don't need a huge hit to sell albums, I'm I right?????? She's number 5 in the UK without a lot of promo, with no hit song and she's there again between english natives !!!! WHY WE CANNOT BE HAPPY FOR THE POSITIONS SHE ACHIEVED AND OPTIMISTIC FOR THINGS TO COME ????????????? Number 3 is a huge thing to new artists or artists who hasn't faired well or are just starting to become more popular. But for Celine , who is acclaimed as one of the best female singer of all time, her album should have debuted at number 1. So it's a big disappointment.

lets face it, this is not celine era anymore, like in the 90s.

now, it is R&B, hip hop, young stars that have the attention of the media.

Sony must be focusing on those young artists.

 

Celine must have a HIT soon to draw media attention. if she gets #1 in the US with 700K, everyone will be talking about that and the album will sell more... but with these numbers, i hope the album wont fade away from the charts soon cause she will be in Vegas till Dec,15
