A lot has changed in the past 4 years within the music industry, sales etc. And it's only first week sales. It's not bad to me anyway. 1 Quote

SuperLove4Celine Posted September 5, 2016 at 06:22 PM Posted September 5, 2016 at 06:22 PM (edited) I always knew Céline is underappreciated in Cadada (outside Quebec), at least in this millennium.... BUT OMG, 60k isn't good, at least not for her. I blame her team for posting ALL of the audios on youtube, also Spotify...Céline doesn't need streams, she CAN SELL. At least I hope they realize Céline needs to do a better promo outside Quebec in Canada. As I do not use Spotify, I will not include that portion in my response. I will, however, say your accusation that the audio videos on YouTube & Vevo caused her album sales to be less than before is sorely incorrect. Those videos weren't uploaded until almost an entire week had passed since the album's release. The album didn't sell as good as it could have for multiple reasons: - The "Encore un soir" video was promised to us, but was never (AND STILL HASN'T BEEN) released. Another broken promise by TeamCeline which affected promoting the album in Canada. - Only ballads were included during the tour. While I am elated Celine did the songs she wanted, not including ANY new uptempo material from the album was a big problem. - When the audio videos WERE finally released to YouTube/Vevo, they weren't used effectively. TeamCeline failed to tweet them on her Twitter account. There was no mention of them on her site. I rarely use Facebook, but I am guessing they weren't promoted there either. Audio videos are supposed to be tools used by the artist and the artist's team to help promote their work. In turn, help boost potential sales. Also, when these audio videos were first released, they weren't even available to residents in Canada. - The digital single for "Encore un soir" should have included more than just the one song. It should have included a second song from the upcoming album as a preview of what was to come. This 2-track single on iTunes/Amazon could have sold for only $1.99. Thus, inspiring more people to put in pre-orders of the album. - Packaging a "Deluxe Edition" with nonsense like bracelet-ribbons and a notepad. Most people don't want that kind of stuff. The deluxe edition should have just been the extra songs, a "behind-the-scenes" DVD of the recording of the album and an interview with Celine where she talks about each of the songs on the album. This could have helped make the cost of the deluxe edition be cheaper and inspired more people to buy it. - Stops in Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver should have been added to the tour. Hitting these cities would have helped bring attention to the new French album, as well as the digital single for "The Show Must Go On." There are many other reasons I could add to the above list, but for now, I will leave it at what I have mentioned. So, in the end, accusing promotional tools like audio videos on YouTube & Vevo as a reason for subpar album sales is just flat out wrong. End of story. If TeamCeline got their heads out of their butts, maybe, just MAYBE things would be different. However, complacency strikes again. Edited September 5, 2016 at 06:23 PM by SuperLove4Celine 5 Quote
SuperLove4Celine Posted September 5, 2016 at 06:27 PM Posted September 5, 2016 at 06:27 PM You're very close with this, Mathias Licensing issues. She's signed to Columbia and the album was released under it. Sony releases singles / songs / lyric videos (NOT music videos as that is solely under the discretion of the record label and the artist's team) once Columbia okays it to various media, including YouTube. But even to do that, they need to come to terms with the associations/unions/organizations in the respective country. For example, GEMA in Germany vehemently blocks a whole lot of songs/videos from being viewable on YouTube in Germany, same is the case with other such unions in other countries. For each upload, fees need to be paid for EACH AND EVERY upload. It can get tedious to go through it in all countries, so record labels just see the potential markets after a thorough research. I think most youtube audios from the album aren't viewable in Quebec is solely for wanting the people to go and buy the album as it counts as one point while one stream on youtube is calculated as a percentage, so it is more beneficial if people buy the physical album. I'll get back to you on this one, DJ. However, your response is correct, but incorrect at the same time. When I have more time later this week, I'll provide clear cut examples as to why the blocking of YouTube/Vevo material in the U.S. is more than just a contracts issues, and is in fact due to stupidity, lack of communication and confusion on TeamCeline's part. 1 Quote

Popular Post Kyle_Jared Posted September 5, 2016 at 09:03 PM Popular Post Posted September 5, 2016 at 09:03 PM 60K In Canada for the of summer is still huge. As said earlier, albums in America open at #1 with this number and it's ten times the population! Sure, SA did 90K but it had a TV Special that drew over a million viewers. She may have sold 200,000 copies of tickets to her concerts in quebec, but not every single person that goes to those shows buys the album. If most that go to the concert are a couple, only one copy between them would be purchased..and not everyone else rushes out and buys the album the same week. She sold about 6 times what a normal opening with number in Canada is. Plus, we have November coming up. She'll be fine. 60,000 is not a number to be ashamed of. 8 Quote
Javito Posted September 5, 2016 at 09:09 PM Posted September 5, 2016 at 09:09 PM What are Make Love To Me and Love Must Be You? Never heard of them Unreleased songs from ANDHC sessions. Can't believe she (or Team Celine) didn't even spend a tweet to thank French fans for #1. If it happened to another singer... They take a lot of things for granted. That's what happens when you're a huge artist and you are used to it . They think her fans are going to put up forever with everything they do... Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
dj4celine Posted September 5, 2016 at 11:34 PM Posted September 5, 2016 at 11:34 PM (edited) 60k seems disappointing in comparison to Sans Attendre but what needs to be noted is the time of release. That number is huge for this time of the year and her team's decision for a re-release with more promo in the fall is what will get the real holiday sales. The album will keep on selling at about 10k (maybe more) in the coming weeks, which is still great, and hopefully, there will be the second single release by October followed by the TV/In-Store promos until November. If we can get to 150k-200k before the album falls of the chart, I'm sure Sony/her team will consider this a huge success and will set the tone for the preparations for the English album next year. Plus qu'ailleurs is a great choice as the first song in my opinion. This is the kind of Celine that I'm familiar with. I like this feeling of familiarity. L'étoile is of course a nice and pleasantly surprising scene change:)That's what is great about this album - a mix of songs to satisfy different people I'll get back to you on this one, DJ.
