After listening to the album non stop since yesterday, I can't pick a favorite but I finally realized which one is my least favorite. A La Plus Haute Branche.

It's a beautiful song with an emotional message and it might grow on me after some time, but for now I find it really boring. It's my first 'skip' from EUS.

I did Masters in French and I understand the lyrics very well. It doesn't change the fact that musically and vocally it's boring like hell.

And it's her Vegas orchestra/touring band performing on it... Élise, Dawn, and Barnev on background vocals... Dominique on drums... Paul on percussion... Kaven on guitar. Same for one of the other Scott Price-produced tracks "Je nous veux."

So far "L'etoile" has been the one to beat. Love it to pieces.

I know it may not be the best song to do live... But I am dying to hear her do Tu Sauras live. The chorus gets you ecstatic and dancing. They could have the lights going crazy. Call me crazy, but I think it would be stunning if done right!

This album is not necessarily about melodies and production and Celine showcasing her vocal abilities. It's a way for her to express herself after everything she's been through. So while I'm always a big advocate of music, for this particular album, I think that the lyrics are the most important part. And the lyrics of ALPHB are spot on.

I would say Tu Sauras is the most Eurovision song of the album... You have not listened to it yet.

Ok, it's definitely NOT the best song on the album BY FAR (AND it's a bonus track), BUT am I the only one who would've liked to see "À vous" performed in place of "Dans un autre monde" during the tour? I feel like with the orchestra and horn section, it could've been a lot of fun...

 

As for the rest of the album, I've been listening to it all day and absolutely loving "L'étoile," "Ma faille," "Les yeux au ciel," and "Ma force"...

 

Other random thoughts:

 

I was concerned that "Ordinaire" would be a let down after seeing her sing it live in Montréal, but it's just as powerful here... (I know some people on here still hate it, but I love it lol)

 

I'm not hearing the nasal that a lot of people are complaining about in "Plus qu'ailleurs," but maybe that's just me.

 

TOTALLY getting "1 fille et 4 types" vibe from a lot of the songs, especially the ones that I'm liking the most. REALLY glad that we finally got a semi-"1F4T" tour this summer.

 

"A la plus haute branche" is beautiful... and the perfect closer to the album. I look at the bonus tracks as the "Encore" to "Encore un soir"... an addendum to the story, finishing with "3h20".

 

BTW, I will FINALLY get my audio of the 5th August show up this weekend (the show where Céline flubbed the lyrics to "MHWGO").

I try to listen to one song a couple of times before turning to another just to make this first listening experience longer. I know it's kinda weird but I don't care.

Now I am more curious about what you think, I am liking the direction anyway lol. Like luke says, when you listen to them all, let us know what you thought of each song!

If the remaining songs are equally great, then my review might end up being one huge LOVE IT.
