Popular Post Taking Chances Posted August 26, 2016 at 11:36 PM Popular Post Posted August 26, 2016 at 11:36 PM (edited) Im obsessed with this album. It's so different from what I expected. For some reason I expected D'elles meets Sans Attendre, but instead we got One Heart meets a breath of fresh air. It's much more upbeat and soul-ish than what I thought she would do in French. I don't speak or understand French, but this got me hooked instantly. The song I am most surprised with is "A vous". Nothing like Celine has done before, and it's almost got a Spanish-latin vibe to it. I'm in love with several songs so far. It's too early to pick favorites, but just love these: L'toile, Ma faille, Encore un soil, Les yeux au ciel, Ordinaire, Tu sauras, and A vous. I have a question to you guys who speak and understand French though. Take "Le blues du businessman" for example. Her pronunciation of the letter "R" is so noticeably gargle-y in this song and in her earlier French albums. This sound is gone now, and i'm wondering what happened? Is she pronouncing the words differently, or is there some other explanation? I find her newer French albums easier to listen to because I think it sounds so beautiful, but some of her older stuff is a little too "hard" in a way. Her french albums usually takes me a while to ease into, but this was just right there. Edited August 26, 2016 at 11:38 PM by Taking Chances 9 Quote
Cafe67 Posted August 26, 2016 at 11:44 PM Posted August 26, 2016 at 11:44 PM I ordered this off of iTunes, and unfortunately, in the US, they don't offer the deluxe version. I was surprised that when I looked at the digital booklet, I didn't see the normal dedication page like she always has on her albums. I thought for sure she would write something about Rene. Am I missing that somewhere or is it on the physical CD? 2 Quote

I want there to be NO covers. I want it to be 100% original material. That also means no sampling of other songs, too. And no adaptations of non-English work a la "Je sais pas" to "I Don't Know." This way we can both skip that track on the album LOL. For real tho...Team Celine / Aldo ... Please no more lullabies. They got me scared when even P!nk writes a song for Celine that says... " I am recovering the faith of a CHILD". Whether that's another lullaby or not I'm tired of them lol. If anyone wants lullabies here and disagrees with me you may have my newly packaged never opened " Miracle" album, you know in case you want to hear " If I Could" the studio version just in case you missed her first Vegas show... OR you know there's Oprah or LMBTL album in case you missed "Lullaby, Goodnight My Angel" in her second Vegas show... Lol 6 Quote

Dionism Posted August 27, 2016 at 01:28 AM Posted August 27, 2016 at 01:28 AM After 3 more listens I can say that the up tempo songs give a nice diversity to the album. In my review after the first listen I said the album had Multiple Personality Disorder and I still think this album is somewhat schizo because of the two different wolds coming together, but I actually like it that way now. What I like most is that the album still contains lots of classic French Celine songs, the modern songs are not dominating the album, but freshen it up. And that's the way it should be for me. I also like that they used real orchestra's, just like on SA. I was really enjoying the orchestra on Ma Faille, then I wanted to see who arranged it, and to my surprise I saw a lot of Dutch names. It appears the orchestral arrangement was done & recorded in Amsterdam by Dutch musicians. The only thing that doesn't make this album my favourite is that the melodies of quite a few songs are mediocre to me. On SA & 1F&4T I love every single melody, but that's not the case for me with this album. I am not really fond of the new songwriters I guess. As soon as for example Encore Un Soir or Ordinaire start that becomes especially clear to me. Those songs are on another level, a level the songs of the new songwriters don't reach. Not because the songs of the new songwriters are mostly dance tracks or because of their arrangement, but because of the melodies. The least interesting melody for me though is a ballad. Le Bonheur En Face does nothing for me. Let's see how I will like this album as time passes. For now I still think it's a good album, and I am over the first disappointment that it doesn't belong to my list of the greatest of her albums. I am happy with the new material. ...and I still like A Vous a lot! That's my favourite up tempo song of this album. 4 Quote

It is more direct, no time is lost explaining , we understand right away what she means; I am f,or one, very pleased with this way of communnicating. I would guess this because she is doing business with a younger generation. But she keeps track with the past with collacoration with Serge Lama and Jacques Veneruso, she is not putting the old stuff in the garbadge. lyn Posted August 27, 2016 at 01:46 AM Posted August 27, 2016 at 01:46 AM Sigh after about 20 listens of this album.. still nothing is jumping out at me. I can't recall the melodies of songs, don't find myself humming tunes like I normally do with a new album.. I mean I enjoy it when I'm listening, but I sure wish I enjoyed it more I just have this overwhelming feeling like I've heard every one of the songs before. Maybe as some of you have discovered, more listens will unlock something for me... Quote Philadelphia, PA, Sept 5 2008.New York, NY, Sept 16 2008, Madison-Freaking-Square Garden.
