high 5. I prefer SA. As I don't really like mid tempo songs in eus. My top would be Les yeux au ciel , eus,l'etoile and Ordinaire. Haven't listened to a vous and ma force yet. Overall it is an acceptable album. It will remain the success of SA.

Ok, so tomorrow morning I'm gonna check if the album is on sale in the record store. If I find one, I'm gonna cancel the order from Amazon. Another thing, my CD player with surround system broke few days ago.

After listening to the album twice, my review in case anyone’s interested. Too bad I don’t understand much of the lyrics, so it’s only based on the songs itself.

It feels like a coherent album, there’s one big exception for me though. At 2/3rd of the album, I get the feeling that Ordinare and Tu sauras sound as they should not be on this album. They have a different kind of approach in instruments and production. For Ordinaire, her voice seems to be more “on top†of the music instead of nicely blending in as the rest of the tracks. Tu sauras also doesn’t have the same intimate and acoustic approach as all the other tracks have. It could have been a nice sidestep from the rest, but they both are also so different from each other that it just doesn't work for me.

But overall, I like it very much. With D'eux and 1F4F this will probably one of my favorite French albums. Can't wait to hear it from vinyl this weekend!

1) Plus qu’ailleurs

Lovely sweet song, got a nice “French†touch with the accordeon halfway the song. Not the best opener I think though.

2) L’étoile

Could grow into one of my fav’s. Love the positive vibe, don’t have an opinion on the effect on her voice. They could have done it without that effect, doesn’t add much extra for me. Great strings!

3) Ma faille

Had high expectations after listening to the preview, but I find it a bit boring after listening to it in full. Too repetitive. Maybe it’ll grow on me, it has a nice flow at least.

4) Encore un soir

Highlight of the album. Instant-classic, but I think we already knew that. JJGold. Any more superlatives?

5) Je nous veux

Classic Dion signature-ballad. Not that original, but not bad either. Don’t mind the grainy voice, it’s nicely dosed.

6) Les yeux au ciel

Nice upbeat and positive sounding track, catchy chorus.

7) Si c’était à refaire

This song just doesn’t do it for me. Maybe because I don’t understand most of it, but the melody and way of singing is just too boring for me.

8) Ordinaire

As I said before, I don’t feel like it should’ve been put on this album. I kinda liked it live because of the live orchestra, but here it just doesn’t fit the album. Too bombastic compared to the intimate songs. Could be the compression of the MP3 but I'm anxious for the vinyl/CD-version. And I know what it means to Céline, so I understand why it's on EUS but nope, I just doesn't do it for me. Tastes differ ;-)

9) Tu sauras

Same as Ordinaire, sounds like it should be on a different album. Too poppy, too much reverb on the drums. The chorus is too repetitive (though catchy).

10) Toutes ces choses

And we’re back into the theme and acoustic style of this album. Lovely ballad. Believe it or not, it reminds me of Frank Sinatra’s “My way†although, thank God, it stays small and doesn’t end with a big apotheosis.

11) Le bonheur en face

Lovely, small song. Not that special for me (yet).

12) A la plus haute branche

Gorgeous and emotionally haunting at the same time. Definitely a highlight for me.

Sinatra's "my way" is a French song at the beginning, that makes sense

A sing wrote and sang by Claude François in the late 60's "Comme d'habitude".

Listen to it ! I love the original version more than Sinatra's. The original artist lived the sing, he didn't just sing it.

That's why I always prefer to wait to listen to the CD. It's like the real thing (and much better if you get the vinyl on your hands, since the sound comes straight from the master copy and what they hear in the recording studio).

 

So why insist in listening to mediocre mp3 versions that can let you down when you can get the most authentic first impressions by listening to the CD? I don't get it.

After listening to EUS sever times, I've finally managed to gain a comprehensive view on it. It feels different, for sure. Whether this difference is for good or not, it depends on the individual taste. For me, the final result leaves me completely satisfied. The sound is fresh, modern but classy at the same time. The lyrics of most songs are well written and the feelings of Celine are intense. The songs that I loved the most (besides EUS) are L'etoile, Si c'etait a refaire (reminds me of D'elles), Ordinaire, Tu sauras (Indila vibes), A la plus haute branche (masterpiece) and A vous (I would love to see it replacing Dans un autre monde in the tour). I don't think Les yeux au ciel is the ideal choice for the second single. It doesn't feel strong enough to keep a high level of sales or become a hit itself.

I would, also, like to mention that my best friend, who appreciates Celine as an artist, but she's not a fan of hers and she doesn't speak French either, listened to the entire album and she's thrilled about it.

I would give 4 out of 5. I don't know if EUS will become a classic but it's worth it buying it!

I just listened to the album. There are 4-5 nice songs and that is all, for me. No big surprises, no songs with 10/10 score, from my side, no goosebumbs. I am not disappointed. I am not satisfied. Afterwards I listened to GEMS like PQTME, ONCP, J'attendais, SISDA, Cherche Encore, LAEN, EASP or LBDBM and I fell that the new songs and like grains of sands compared to Jupiter or Mars, if we compare them to the LP/JJG songs.
