Prince Whiskers Posted November 29, 2007 at 06:14 AM Posted November 29, 2007 at 06:14 AM Whew! The US charting is much better than I thought it was going to be. BUT ONE QUESTION : Why do you think an appearance on Oprah has helped Josh Groban tremendously while Celine's promo on the same show didn't drive up her album sales? Cuz "Noel" is a holiday album? Is that it? Quote http://cdn.webecoist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/modern-pet-solo-blown-glass.jpg

BUT ONE QUESTION : Why do you think an appearance on Oprah has helped Josh Groban tremendously while Celine's promo on the same show didn't drive up her album sales? Cuz "Noel" is a holiday album? Is that it? Could be. 'cos Josh doesn't really have a competitor for Christmas albums but the old ones. And an appearance in Oprah is not a measurement of getting more sales, but will actually affect cos people will know if there's something new. Quote
Love, Posted November 29, 2007 at 09:03 AM Posted November 29, 2007 at 09:03 AM (edited) I want to know what will happen now that Celine is not going to be on tv anymore... (as much as she has been recently) That's when they'll start putting up those double-sided posters in Walmart, K-Mart, S-Mart, Kwikmart... etc. etc. etc... don't you wish they were more SMART? thevoice Posted November 29, 2007 at 09:47 AM Author Posted November 29, 2007 at 09:47 AM let's not forget that celine still promotes the album...that's probably why TC had only a 40% decline next week we might see the effect of DWTS however let's not forget that on the day of the release she was on oprah and while josh groban sold more than 400k this week thanks to his performance there celine sold only 200k...it's time to promote the new album with some new songs other than "alone" and TCH Quote

Is that it? I was thinking the same thing! I believe that had the album been presented properly, that is with Celine singning more than 2 songs off of it, it could have had a fantastic opening. She could have sung her new "ballads" instead of her old ones combined with the new "edgier" stuff. Alas, another missed opportunity. I really think that this promo tour was done half-#ssed and both Celine and Sony are to blame (eventhough "girlfriend" worked her #ss off!) Quote

I really think that this promo tour was done half-#ssed and both Celine and Sony are to blame (eventhough "girlfriend" worked her #ss off!)I totally agree. I didn't see the Oprah show with Josh but I assume he sang more than 2 songs from the new album and he probably talked about the NEW album... Celine sang two new songs and many old ones and not a word about the recording, the new collaborators, etc... I still don't get it... It was THE place to sing a few of her great new ballads like Got Nothin` Left and This Time, etc. Or at least they could have shown different clips to let people hear it!!! And of course, with a Christmas record, you see the results right away. People won't wait a month or two to purchase it unlike Taking Chances. Quote
Ted Posted November 29, 2007 at 01:57 PM Posted November 29, 2007 at 01:57 PM (edited) The biggest one week Holiday is Celine Dion's "These Are Special Times" powered through 461,000 during Christmas week of 1998.FLASH POINTS • Josh Groban's "Noel" rises to No. 1 on The Billboard 200 with an 81% increase, selling 405,000. Credit part of the handsome increase to his surprise performance on last week's favorite-things edition of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" (Nov. 20). And, figure that post-Thanksgiving shopping and sale tags at Target and Wal-Mart helped out too. Winfrey's always-popular giveaway show helps give the singer his second No. 1 album, following 2003's "Closer." Both of his No. 1s were earned not by debuting in the penthouse, but by doing something essentially unheard-of these days -- moving to No. 1 after having debuted lower on the chart. In 2007, there have been five albums that grew their way to No. 1. Aside from "Noel," the others were Michael Buble's "Call Me Irresponsible," the "Now 24" collection, Daughtry's self-titled set and the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack ... "Noel" is the first Christmas album to top The Billboard 200 since Kenny G's "Miracles - The Holiday Album," did the trick for three weeks at the end of 1994. Kenny G would go on to release three more Christmas albums in 2000, 2002 and 2005 . "Noel's" 405,000 not only represents Groban's best sales week ever, but it's also the best sales week for a Christmas album since Celine Dion's "These Are Special Times" powered through 461,000 during Christmas week of 1998 Edited November 29, 2007 at 01:59 PM by Ted Quote http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y46/tedxyz/Untitled-TrueColor-02.jpg

Ted Posted November 29, 2007 at 06:51 PM Posted November 29, 2007 at 06:51 PM (edited) Dion, Timbaland Keep Euro Chart Crowns November 29, 2007 - Global By Paul Sexton, London Celine Dion's "Taking Chances" (Columbia) starts a second week at No. 1 on the new European Top 100 Albums chart, as does "Apologize" (Mosley/Blackground/Interscope) by Timbaland presents One Republic on Eurochart Top 100 Singles. Dion's set falls from its debut positions in several European markets, 2-5 in Denmark, 2-6 in France, 5-7 in Germany, 5-8 in Italy and 5-10 in the United Kingdom. But it climbs 5-3 in the Belgian region of Wallony, 12-9 in Portugal and holds at No. 2 in Switzerland and No. 3 in Austria. The title track single falls 12-16 on the Eurochart. In an unchanged top four on Top 100 Albums, the Eagles' "Long Road Out Of Eden" (Polydor) is at No. 2 again, Alicia Keys' "As I Am" (J) at No. 3 and Led Zeppelin's "Mothership" (Atlantic) at No. 4. "Long Road" falls 1-3 in Norway, 3-5 in Holland and 4-5 in Germany, but holds at No. 6 in Germany. Keys is No. 1 for a second week in Switzerland and holds at No. 7 in Portugal, but falls 2-3 in Holland, 3-7 in Italy and 5-10 in France. "As I Am" arrives at No. 14 in the United Kingdom on sales of 28,000. Her first album, 2001's "Songs In A Minor," remains her most successful there, with sales of just over a million. Zeppelin's compilation moves up 2-1 in Norway in its deluxe CD/DVD edition. "Mothership" is also up 5-3 in Ireland and 13-9 in Italy, but falls 4-5 in the United Kingdom and 7-10 in Germany. "Jazz Ist Anders" (Hot Action) by German punk veterans Die Ärzte is back up 8-5 on Top 100 Albums, reversing its move of last week. The album holds off another German mainstay, Herbert Grönemeyer, to keep top spot there, as Grönemeyer debuts at No. 2 with "12 Live," a two-DVD in-concert package that provides the sequel to the studio album "12," released last March. The live set hits the pan-European chart at No. 14. British chart sensation Leona Lewis is up 9-6 on the European survey with her debut album "Spirit" (Syco Music/Sony BMG), which continues its reign in the United Kingdom and Ireland. "Spirit" followed its opening U.K. tally of 375,000 with a second-week scorecard of just under 197,000. Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" (Universal Island) falls 6-7 in its 19th consecutive week in the pan-European top 10, while Eros Ramazotti is down 5-8 with "E2" (Ariola). "Black" is up 6-5 in Switzerland, while "E2" loses its crown in Ramazotti's native Italy, dropping 1-4. "E2" succeeded in Italy by another local favorite, Ligabue, who debuts at No. 1 with "Primo Tempo" (Warner Bros.). That's the first of two planned best-ofs by the Italian rock singer, with another due next year. His countryman Andrea Bocelli breaks into the composite European top ten 11-9 with his own retrospective, "Vivere" (Sugar), which falls 1-2 in Hungary and 3-4 in Norway, but holds at No. 8 in the United Kingdom. Irish vocal group Westlife holds at No. 10 on Top 100 Albums with "Back Home" (S/Sony BMG), which moves back 3-2 in the United Kingdom. Timbaland's single is No. 1 for a second week in Germany and climbs 3-1 in Austria and 3-2 in Ireland and Switzerland. It also stays at No. 2 in Denmark and Norway. Rihanna's "Don't Stop The Music" (SRP/Def Jam), its predecessor atop the Eurochart, holds at No. 2. Also in the Eurochart top 10, north-of-England club crossover "Heartbroken" (All Around The World) by T2 featuring Jodie Aysha is up 44-9 after climbing 14-2 on the U.K. chart. French star Jenifer debuts at No. 10 with "Tourner Ma Page" (Mercury) after a local debut at No. 3. Celine Fans: How come you don't excited such good news!!!!!
