RLAAMJR. Posted December 5, 2007 at 07:55 AM Posted December 5, 2007 at 07:55 AM (edited) I just asked an employee in local music store here in the Philippines about getting an advance order of Celine Dion's "These Are Special Times" Christmas album ( cos i wanna pay in advance to buy 2 ) and she told me it's not possible 'cos they can't really order the Celine's previous albums from Sony. I wonder why? Edited December 5, 2007 at 07:56 AM by RLAAMJR. Quote

isurrender Posted December 5, 2007 at 01:05 PM Posted December 5, 2007 at 01:05 PM There's something I don't understand with Japan. Are there 2 official charts? I mean there is Oricon and Soundscan. On the Orican chart, she is #15 with a little more than 51.000 copies. But on the other hand, she is also on the Soundscan chart @ # 9 (-3) with a total of 40,264 copies. http://www.phileweb.com/products/cd-top20/2007/1052.html So what's right? fabtasticfoo Posted December 5, 2007 at 03:33 PM Posted December 5, 2007 at 03:33 PM Wait, 1.3M people illegally downloaded TCH??!!! Has Alicia's "As I Am" experienced anything like that? Or was it given much better protection by Sony? And what kind of "protection" do you imagine Sony could have offered Alicia? More rootkits? Or perhaps special attention when filing those highly effective lawsuits against college kids? Over the last decade, Sony has demonstrated total ineptitude in all their efforts to deal with the challenges presented by file sharing. I'd sure like them to recognize that there will always be people copying music illegally. All attempts to add "protection" have just made their product less desirable and driven away customers. The only solution to this mess to offer a product that's appealing to as many people as possible. EMI and Universal are finally catching on. Too bad Celine's signed to the most backwards label of them all. Hopefully, Sony BMG will figure it out before it's too late. Quote

As for the sales figures difference, I guess it's could be the result of reporting system just like Hits Daily Double and SoundsScan US. Quote
x_celinedion Posted December 5, 2007 at 06:03 PM Posted December 5, 2007 at 06:03 PM Well, I checked yesterday for here in America where she stands for Taking Chances but when I looked on the Billboard site, the album has been bumped down to number eight. I started freaking out in class, seeing as though she was number three last week and on top of that apparently High School Musical 2's Soundtrack is beating her out, caused me to flip like you have no idea. I was like "DUDE WHAT'S THIS!?" Otherwise, I think she is doing such a great job now if only America would lighten up. Not to mention I'm in class right now. Wow I am getting so much work done! Quote
Ted Posted December 5, 2007 at 06:09 PM Posted December 5, 2007 at 06:09 PM (edited) Celine is #2 in Canada. She sold 39,000 to Josh's 46,000. That's not too bad. Groban, Dion battle for No. 1 By JOHN WILLIAMSSenior Editor, JAM! Showbiz A holiday battle is taking shape at the top of the Canadian album charts. Josh Groban's Christmas disc "Noel" bumped Celine Dion's "Taking Chances" out of the No. 1 spot this week, racking up 46,000 in sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures. Groban also grabbed the No. 1 spot south of the border, selling 539,000 copies of "Noel" in the U.S. Back here, Celine slipped to No. 2, but still sold a healthy 39,000 copies of her latest effort. Anne Murray's "Duets, Friends & Legends" climbed up two positions to No. 3, "MuchDance 2008" was locked in at No. 4, and Paul Potts' "Once Chance" rose up three to No. 5. The movement up front forced Alicia Keys' "As I Am" down from No. 3 to No. 6, while the French disc "Grands Class" skyrocketed 73 notches to No. 7. Rounding out the top 10 was Garth Brooks' "Ultimate Hits" at No. 8, Francois Perusse's "L'Album du Peuple Tome" at No. 9, and "Big Shiny Tunes 12" at No. 10. LuisMa Posted December 5, 2007 at 07:52 PM Posted December 5, 2007 at 07:52 PM Well, Celine's name is totally related to the Top 3 albums in Canada, as she's Josh Groban's friend, has her own at 2, and appears on the number 3 album by Anne Murray. Quote
