This “blame Rene” narrative once again veers into “Celine had no agency in any of this” territory. She wasn’t a teenage girl at this point but a strong-willed woman. And pushing through and not complaining is her defining personality trait, always has been (remember how she wouldn’t tell the director of the IACBTMN video her feet were bleeding from running in that gravel?)

I don’t think at the time Rene was alive and well either of them thought of this as serious or anything but temporary. And I think it’s pretty clear things took a serious turn for the worse after his death.

 

He was her long time manager by the time she was on TCWT, he knew the quality of shows she was bringing before she became mostly nasal on TCWT so telling me him being her manager and husband, he never thought 'oh there's something wrong here, we should investigate it' is something that one of the 2 should have had and should have been Rene because Celine was letting him be the judge of her performances.

 

Plus, we knew that Celine went into the studio just before she released the DVD for the TCWT to redub some of her extremely nasal performances so she was very much aware of her condition and most likely Rene told her to do the redub because she was not up to par with the other performances. She states that singing nasally was her coping with her early SPS disease signs, if proper care done by Rene and maybe even turning the doctor visit into less than a performance piece ( like the one captured in TCWT behind the scenes video), they could have saved her early on. Part of the blame is on him, because in Celine's eyes his opinion of her performances would actually matter for her.

She was/ is a grown #ss woman. She could’ve said NO to commitments when Rene was her husband. She was HIS boss after all. I think people forget that the artist employs the manager and not the other way around. I think the interview yesterday was evident that it’s actually Celine who wants do this. People always trying to vilify Rene when we don’t have any insight… it’s wrong.

 

It's like the last 10 years never existed and we are still in a world where we tell: You are a grown woman, why didn't you said no ? Honnestly I can't believe I'm still reading this argumentation.

You also forget that it was her husband, not just a contracted manager.

 

Whatever, I don't have any answers and I always believed in René. I just miss him in the equation knowing all what we learnt and the fact that he was her husband AND manager. Then I absolutely don't know.

Seems they were investigating what wrong with her but did not know what it was so kept going with TCWT. From what can piece together was just the voice until after Rene left and then it got worse. Not sure if she will ever go into more detail on how much Rene pushed or didn't.

1. Her performances on the TCWT were awesome.

2. She recorded the dubbed parts because those particular vocals were playback tracks and it would have been obvious even to casual listeners.

 

Bottom line, her voice actually sounded amazing on the TCWT, even at the worst of times and in spite of how she actually felt inside. Seemingly nothing wrong, on the contrary.

I love the part of the interview when she said and I’m summarizing, “I’m gonna comeback but on my own terms, I’ll probably have to cancel from time to time and that’s okay, I’ll do my best and be smart not strong”.

I couldn't agree with you more. Despite it all, she's been ever-so-generous with all her fans, she still took time to talk to people, sign autographs, she didn't let any of the hardships make her bitter. She's truly a REMARKABLE human being. She deserves all our love eternally.

This is simply incorrect. She dubbed only songs for which playback was used during TCWT (hit medleys, Eyes on Me, My Heart Will Go On etc.). This was to make sure it doesn't sound the same as A New Day as most playbacks were from there. The playback for EOM used during the tour was miles better than the dubbed version we got on Boston DVD.

No I haven’t. But there might be a reason why Celine hasn’t really shown much skin like she’s done before. It could be side effects from the meds she’s taking and she doesn’t feel comfortable showing it.
