Interview Hoda Kotb and Céline - NBC NEWS EXCLUSIVE

No I haven’t. But there might be a reason why Celine hasn’t really shown much skin like she’s done before. It could be side effects from the meds she’s taking and she doesn’t feel comfortable showing it.

I was thinking it was from the makeup around her eyes rubbing off maybe.

Listen to the podcast! It has really good parts that were not part of the interview. It gives you more context and answers are full and now you can see they chopped them for TV. She is even talking about blood tests and exact treatments (she gets blood every week ohmy.png). And the part "not everybody is as fortunate as me" and raising awareness/being spokesperson should have been part of the interview, because it shows how humble she is and how she admits that but she thinks about the others too.

About the shows... Instead of 5 shows a week, maybe 3... haha "would love to do 2 shows a night"

I've already said it but after watching it for the 2nd time and listening to the podcast, it is truly the best interview ever (even though the circumstances are so sad). Also, it didn't really focus on the documentary. Rather the opposite, it showed mostly only parts of the trailer of documentary (plus the singing part and the apple metaphor that I love) and focused on what Celine wanted to share. So if you are wondering if you should watch it, I wouldn't hesitate as it will not spoil the experience. I would even say that the "light" of the interview might help us get through the "darkness" of the documentary.... It's clear those 2 are VERY different.

Now I am only struck that again if it was any other illness (like even cancer) she would be able to sing still. We also thought she was suffering from SPS with all those body symptoms and we thought it might have influenced her voice (of course it did) BUT we didn't know it STARTED with the voice, so the voice was gone first before any other symptom, not the other way round. This is truly tragic and the most heartbreaking thing.

I’m so happy she’s back! In whatever way that will be she seems to be thriving as much as possible with her new reality and that’s the main takeaway.

Very interesting interview. It's truly reflecting the "I Am Celine Dion" theme... not the youngest of 14 children, Rene's widow... but herself, her health and her voice.

I really loved seeing her talking about how she manages her instrument, she rarely talks about it. I'm reading lots of comments pointing out how could Rene allow this. As far as we know, it's a progressive illness, so probably she had just a few bad days from time to time before him passing away. Then... we know, she had to prove to her late husband and the world she's a strong woman. The rest is history. So sad for her.

I cannot help but thinking about the Hyde Park's performance, last time I saw her. Of course, while you're in the concert you don't realize how are her vocals, the excitement overcomes everything. But a few weeks ago, when the concert leaked online I was shocked at her vocal condition. However, now everything takes a whole other perspective. After Fashion Week in Paris, showing the world what a courageous woman she is, she had to do that concert, probably high on valiums.

BTW, I wonder when was the first concert she noticed the spasms. She stated that it was after a concert in Germany, but she did several shows in the country.

12 June 2008 Berlin Germany Waldbühne 13,153 / 14,000 $1,826,671 14 June 2008 Frankfurt Commerzbank-Arena 15,333 / 18,000 $2,206,722 16 June 2008 Stuttgart Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle 5,692 / 7,000 $1,274,927 18 June 2008 Cologne Lanxess Arena 9,657 / 10,000 $1,914,513 20 June 2008 Hamburg Color Line Arena 8,757 / 9,500 $2,023,846 22 June 2008 Munich Olympiastadion 17,015 / 20,000 $2,414,114 24 June 2008 Zürich Switzerland Hallenstadion 11,005 / 11,005 $2,246,343

I'm watching some performances from then to see if I can detect anything.

At the same time, I loved how her voice sounded during the interview: her singing voice but also her speaking voice. Not being goofy, or trying so hard to be cool faking an accent.

I'm amazed at how much she loves and needs the stage. In a way, it's comforting.

One last thing, I really appreciate Hoda's empathy, listening skills and kindness. She has also been promoting it everywhere with such a nice respect towards our girl.

I believe it was Munich.

I was at the Munich concert. She didn’t struggle vocally that day, but she really rushed through the show which kind of disappointed me

I think she made it pretty clear that when she does come back, she wants to be the Céline Dion, the one that everyone knows and loves. And she is going to “hit those notes”, and she won’t be scared because she’ll be ready, and the fans won’t be worried.

I meant in the capacity of how many shows she was always doing. Celine knows she can’t work as hard as she used to, and there certainly won’t be as many shows. She’s beyond determined to get back on the stage, for sure.

Celine had an SPS panic attack in front of Irene in real time, so yeah Irene was traumatized because as a mother and a friend she was worried about Celine. I am not sure how people can spin things out of context.

Not to mention, that this was probably during filming before the subject of the documentary pivoted to her dealing with SPS. Irene probably didn’t even know at the time that Celine was sick and then to see this happen without any warning would absolutely be traumatizing.

Irene found out about her diagnosis in pre production as has been confirmed. Still though who wouldn’t be traumatized by such an ordeal.

I don’t’ know about you but I actually enjoyed way more the podcast because it was not edited at all I believe. I was surprised that the answers were not in the same order.

I feel like I understood celine better here than during the interview. The story line just made more sense. Adding to that the infos are just more complete and really help to get Celine’s pov, she went more in depth and was more precise.

Again about the Valium, it made me think of Whitney and Michael. And we all know how strongly Celine felt about the situations that befell them.

I didn't get the sense that Celine was taking super dangerous doses all at once, but like a cumulative amount over the course of a day or two that could've ended really badly. But I'll have to go back and re-watch the interview to see the wording. Evidently the 90mg dose bit was only at the later stages of her using the pills (maybe only for a matter of months?), but I'm sure certain media/headlines will draw up the scariest pictures imaginable without the full nuance or context.

Even if not all at once, medication generally stays in your system for at least 24 hours. So, whether taken altogether or all at once, the dosage amount was still in her bloodstream and that is dangerous.

I either heard or read somewhere recently that it was specifically said Munich. Which may be why the show was rushed?

In 2019, she was very, very thin and burned out. Side effects of Valium can include muscle weakness and gastrointestinal problems.Thank God, COVID gave her a break.

Not even a promotion of it before it aired. Clueless team.

Did anyone notice when she said about a new album? Was it a hint. She said something like … “what am I going to do? Come out with a new album after four years and not acknowledge what happened”. Might be nothing but the fact she mentioned new album is promising don’t you think?

No it was just her saying she felt like she owed us an explanation about the last 4 years before she could focus on moving forward with her career, being live shows, new albums etc.

I think it definitely IS in the cards ,remember she was in studio in Boston a couple months ago, but I think she was just giving an example… she could’ve substituted live shows in there just as easily.

Yes, I thought the same. It was a hint.

One of the aims of this interview and of the upcoming documentary is to provide an overview as to what happened to Celine during these years. It is her way of explaining her absence and adressing any questions or confusion on the matter. Once that is all sorted, she will then move on, release new music and get back to stage. Her comeback has been organised very carefully and consistently. I am happy to see this!
