scielle Posted July 11, 2024 at 06:06 PM Author Posted July 11, 2024 at 06:06 PM If it weren’t true wouldn’t Celine or her team deny claims? Well, no. When have we ever known her to bother denying tabloid rumours? (Except that one time to defend Pepe...) Quote
DCCeline Posted July 11, 2024 at 06:09 PM Posted July 11, 2024 at 06:09 PM Why would they deny the Olympics. It keeps her name in the news. Quote

A rumored comeback after her diagnosis at the Olympics would make people fear the worst if it’s not true. It would be a different story if the machine was up and running again. Quote

Jeanette Posted July 11, 2024 at 06:35 PM Posted July 11, 2024 at 06:35 PM That's L'hymne a l'amour. The Olympic Committee secured performance rights to it (which was reported several weeks ago) and that's when it became the key focus of speculation. (It was in the Le Parisien article on June 18, see here.) Well the BBC are using it in their Olympic advertising campaigns so it may well just be the signature song of the games but doesn’t necessarily mean it will be performed at the opening ceremony. I hope if she is performing that she tries something else as the 2015 AMA’s performance, although powerful for the occasion it was meant, is filled with the very same cracking vocals that she’s been talking about of late. It would be playback… probably much better vocal condition now that she’s been rehabbing her voice. 1 Quote

Oh, interesting... The 2015 performance was clearly not her best, but it was also a difficult time - last minute ask, she had monitor issues iirc (which in hindsight were possibly SPS hearing-related issues), Rene's condition at the time, her undisclosed/ unknown one... for all we know she could be in better shape vocally (and emotionally) now than she was then. Mmm, not sure 🤔 Remember how different she had been singing that since the 2017 live tour, I’m all for changing up a song here and there to freshen things up and so she doesn’t get robotic while singing it but I really didn’t like what she was doing with this song at that time, she was playing around with it way too much. I don’t know so much about the Courage tour as it was more of a restrained, stripped back performance but I now wonder if these changes were also out of necessity or purely stylistic choices. 1 Quote

True, but I do think for her legacy and streaming figures if she’s going to perform at the Olympics they need to take opportunity to promote her own songs… I agree it should be the right one for the occasion but surely there has to be at least ONE song that could suffice from her catalogue… this is BIGGER than a performance at the superbowl and they always BOOST the artist’s catalog afterwards. 2 Quote

Well, let's remember this isn't about her. It's about the athletes and showcasing the host country. 1 Quote

What better way then to perform something off of Duex? The most successful French album of modern times? Plus though I agree with you, I wouldn’t mind Celine finally making something a tad bit about her. Quote

Something by JJG would definitely make sense! Or better yet, with JJG.After all, doesn't he routinely come up as "most admired" French public figure in polls year after year, despite having retired years ago? 1 Quote
TommKat22 Posted July 11, 2024 at 09:07 PM Posted July 11, 2024 at 09:07 PM If she does perform at the opening ceremony, it would be cool if she performed a new song or a French cover song that they release a studio recording of right after the ceremony. Could also donate proceeds to the SPS cause and could give her a chance to chart with all the eyes that watch that ceremony! 2 Quote Tommy
scielle Posted July 11, 2024 at 09:14 PM Author Posted July 11, 2024 at 09:14 PM Well, I think every Olympics has an official song. The one for Paris 2024, so far at least, is just the instrumental "Parade" by Victor le Masne. So maybe one with lyrics is in the pipeline as well? 1 Quote
comingback Posted July 11, 2024 at 09:17 PM Posted July 11, 2024 at 09:17 PM What about the song A Paris? Quote

My favourite song of all time — I also didn’t like the way she butchered it. Lost all the magic. 1 Quote The best is yet to come...

Opening is always more formal, there are more Olympic protocol requirements that need to take place. Edited July 11, 2024 at 11:27 PM by scielle 1 Quote
