Honestly, even some of the exercises we see her do in the trailer are pretty impressive. Like the part where she lifts her leg and holds it straight. That actually requires above average flexibility, strength and balance. Many healthy people would not be able to do those.

 

Don't forget that she started to train intensely for her first Las Vegas Residency, and then found her passion for ballet where she had a private teacher! So there is a base of flexibility which might help her to deal with this very cruel illness!

You are right, the word "friend" has devalued a lot today. Too bad.

 

The fact that she called Irene a friend - definitely an overstatement - probably proves various things. One sad one: it was enough that someone wanted to listen to her, was probably attentive and empathetic, didn't want to exclusively bask in her glow for a while, just understood her - and she called her a friend. This is sad proof of how lonely people at the pinnacle of fame can be.

 

The second thing is more optimistic: Céline has been working since childhood, so she didn't have time to learn how to make friends; for years, everything in her life was occupied by family and work. After the death of René and the death of her mother, which weakened her ties with her siblings, as her sons grow up and her work (aside from daily physiotherapy) no longer consumes her, a place for friendship has appeared in her life. And all the luck, because she will need it a lot - maybe even more than all of us? as a famous and sick person. May she find wise and honest people around her.

 

How can you presume that it was an overstatement? Were you there? Celine made it clear that she wanted to be a creative partner with Irene on this project. When you work that closely and that personally with someone; you’re bound to get close and for some kind of relationship. Even if they don’t see each other often after this, doesn’t mean they aren’t friends. There are certainly multi-dimensions of friendship. I have plenty of friends that I don’t see or even speak to on even a semi-regular basis. But we can pick up the phone or even run into each other at random, and it’s as if no time has passed by. We are in no position to presume how Celine handles her friendships.

The trailer is really impactful. After I'm Alive cuts and we hear the "911 what's your emergency?" with some man asking "Celine?" my heart fell to pieces.

People in North America generally have a different understanding of friendship than we do here in Europe. When I lived in the US, I noticed Americans tend to call everyone a friend (and even "best friend" despite knowing the person for 30 minutes lol), and I thought to myself "wow, in these situations, I'd refer to them as acquaintance at best". But this word is pretty much never used in English. People just say "friends".

 

It's not really right or wrong, and I'm not saying this is the case with Celine and Irene. Maybe they actually found a bound together,

Pretty sure we figured out that footage was from when she was recording "Love Again". If you look closely at the bottom of the page that is closest to the edge of the screen, you can see some of the lyrics of that last few lines of the song.

It also warms my heart to see how universally positive the reactions have been. Regardless of background, people finally seem to agree about something: we are all rooting for her. She's such a unifying figure lol.

And I've also been wondering about that guy who was supporting her during fysio. He was in NYC/Boston with her as well, so I assumed he was her bodyguard. Νews about the trailer is EVERYWEHRE in Greek media. Now I know Greece is such a small market so this might not mean much, but I feel it is indication of what is happening in bigger markets as well. Some hosts already commented on the great quality of the documentary - how professional and well-crafted it comes off.

 

Credit to Irene and to Celine for choosing her. I read somewhere last month that one of Celine's stronger abilities is to read people. Even as soon as someone enters the room. She's got great instinct and that's probably evidenced here.

A matter of simple semantics. If what friendship is, we used to learn from the ancient philosophers, and these days we talk about our "two hundred Facebook friends" or "a friend we met a month ago," then I see a devaluation of the word. If a "friend" were to be someone with whom we only have a good understanding, what word to use to describe a unique, closest and deepest non-erotic bond? Words devalue like coins, and some are extremely regrettable. But of course, everyone is master of his own wallet and his own dictionary. And this has nothing to do with Céline.
