I see Quebec press are upset about her talking in English and it being subtitled. And that she allowed a “foreign Amazon crew” into her home.

https://www.journaldemontreal.com/2024/05/23/la-bande-annonce-du-nouveau-documentaire-sur-celine-dion-est-devoilee

I think whether they like it or not, as Celine grew older, without Rene, without performing, she opted to stay in Las Vegas with her boys instead of move to Canada… a move I was actually surprised with as well; I think Celine and her children considers themselves “Americans” and that’s perfectly normal as Celine has been living in the US now longer than the amount of time she lived in Canada.

Her kids, yeah, probably. But her? Doubt it.

I’ve now lived outside of Canada for most of my life (3 different countries) and I’ve never felt more Canadian than while living in the US.

I think her staying in Vegas has to do with her work there, kids having friends/ roots, relative anonymity (can you imagine what life would be like for her in Quebec?) and taxes (no state income tax in Nevada, and she probably pays way less in US federal taxes than she’d pay overall in QC).

there is one guy in Le journal de Montreal , who made a comment about the french fact. I have seen nothing else. So the comments about people in Québec in general because of one guy, i don't see the point.

Yeah, but I don’t think Celine is particularly political… which correct me if I’m wrong, is probably one of the reasons you feel closer than ever to your roots.

And I want to clarify what I meant, I think Celine considers herself Canadian first and foremost but I think she also now considers herself American. Probably because a bulk and probably a majority of her trials, or successes, milestone moments as a mother, and performer etc… happened in the US.

Well actually on instagram it's the My Heart Will Go On music video with 16million views, after that it's again MHWGO live video with 12 million and THEN it's the docu with 11Million closely followed by the English SPS announcement video with 10.4 million

If I may, and in my humble opinion, after all those years, it sounds like a childish attitude. Too bad for them.

Agreed. She doesn’t owe the Quebec press anything. Celine has lived in the USA for over 30 years. She is bi-lingual. Bore off.

Yet they claim a stake in her at all times… and if she veers far in their eyes or doesn’t give them the exclusive, they get mad. But at other times they give her flack for being “too American”

It’s as if Celine is fighting a losing battle… to many Americans she’s too Canadian and to many Canadians she’s too American. I say just let her be.

While I think the trailer is spectacular, emotional, and heartbreaking, I find the soundtrack is very disappointing. She has tons of leftover song from previous recordings/albums, yet they don't bother to dig a little bit deeper into her repertoir. And The Hard Way, one the her best recent song (musically, vocally), which really fits the narrative of the upcoming documentary, doesn't even included in the soundtrack album.

I mean, look at the lyric. I can't think any other song that perfectly capture what Celine has been through in the last few years other than The Hard Way.

I been, I been, I been

I been touching fires for the sake of feelin'

I been chasing, chasing

Chasing all these highs so I could crash the ceiling

I been restless, tempted to follow every devil way down

I took it so low and at that time it looked like no way out

I had to see

Try to believe

I write my story and this ain't how it's ending

Said to myself

Said to myself, "this ain't how I'm gonna go down"

When the bottom hit my soul

I had to climb up all alone

When the night shot down my hope

I had to find a light to hold

You gotta pray just a little

Die just a little

To come alive in the right way

And sometimes to get home you gotta go

The hard way

What a missed opportunity.

USA Today talking about the trailer/doc. Some interesting parts I don't remember reading before.

https://www.usatoday...er/73811139007/

The film promises an intimate look at Dion's day-to-day life as she lives on the outskirts of Las Vegas with her twin sons. Fans will be able to see the musical icon's warehouse full of props and wardrobe from over the decades as well as archival performance footage of songs such as "Treat Her Like A Lady."

Don't remember this about THLAL. Seems interesting choice for a performance to show.

Also don't remember reading this press release but like what it has to say.

According to a press release for the film, "Amidst the hardship, her fans will be treated to Celine's irresistible sense of humor, lightness, and joy with which she approaches life. Her love of family, fun and fashion shines throughout the film, counterbalancing its otherwise heavy nature to give us a unique window into Celine's exuberant, uplifting spirit."

That’s incredibly silly lol. The film is being directed by an American woman, and she’s most likely mostly being spoken to in English for the duration of the film. Of course she’d be speaking English. Seems like faux outrage to me.

Wow that really is. Also in a way Courage too. I know it was written about losing Rene but could now mean her fans and just fact the Courage she needed to get through all this.

Exactly and they say let an Amazon prime crew in but the film not produced by Prime just bought the rights so the crew was not a prime crew. I assume was Irene's crew she works with.

That’s part of their b I t c hing, they wanted Celine to choose a French company like Julie Synder… she opted for a bigger platform and who can blame her. I think primes reach is much bigger.

Ugh. If it was a Julie Snyder production, she’d make it about her. I can’t stand that woman. I wouldn’t watch it.

That and I’ll never forgive her team and the editors for what they did to “A New Day…” dvd they were a little to happy with the cropping, muting the applause, made it a watered down version with all the editing they did. It felt like a video studio did it at times.

I’m glad Celine went with fresh blood this time, and if the trailer is an indicator, then I think Irene did a great job.

I'm surprised they actually used IACBTMN in the trailer as it isn't part of the soundtrack. Maybe that was the point? Either way, I'm so happy they didn't go the generic route and play MHWGO or elements of the damn flute.. ofc it's in the doc, but I love when it isn't the safe route.

even though I LOVE MHWGO, I'm so glad they didn't use it for the trailer and neither put it on the soundtrack... Celine is more than the Titanic lady, and I think IACBTMN is taking the post of MHWGO signature song...

Yeah thank god it’s not Julie. We’d just end up with a fawning hagiography and Julie doing her utmost to show how she & Celine are best buds.

Irene is an experienced photographer and photojournalist who I’d like to think takes no BS (and trained at Columbia, widely considered the best journalism program out there).

I agree, but sometimes it feels like Celine is in her own bubble and choosing someone ( like Julie) that she already knows might have been the easy choice and the lazy choice to be honest… but she didn’t.

Celine says that upon meeting Irene and “hearing her story”( I’m assuming her deaf parents) that she knew she was the one to do this project…. I just wonder how the process of selection actually happens. I wonder if Celine was familiar with Taylor’s work or if when SONY proposed the project to Celine if they sent multiple directors to Vegas to meet with Celine and see who she wanted?!! Either way I think the choice Celine made was a great choice.

Wondering if the RW rehearsals were filmed along with the decision to cancel the shows start?

I’d like the see the BTS of that.

Yes, I think Sony had a few candidates they sent her way and she probably made the final decision.

Vogue says:

“In order to tell that truth, Dion knew that she would need to find the right storytelling partner. Having already begun conversations with a handful of directors at the beginning of 2022 to explore making a film about this phase of her life, Dion was connected with the Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Irene Taylor, and the pair hit it off immediately. “I wanted to find someone I could vibrate with as a partner on the project,” Dion says. “I wasn’t looking for someone who would dramatize my life or reinvent what I was going through. Or someone who would always be saying, ‘Can we ask you that? Can we go there?’ When I met Irene, I knew right away that she was the person.””

Though we know the 2022 date is wrong because this was announced in fall 2021 and Irene was already attached, so I suspect the above should have said “early 2021”. Initially it was supposed to be a different film, and was announced in line with RW residency timing, but obviously they had to pivot since and I think Irene turned out to be very well placed to do it (given her personal experience, her prior work and, randomly, her husband happens to be a neurologist specializing in movement disorders like Parkinson’s.)

I think they started production around early 2022 (based on that LinkedIn post where Vermilion was trying to hire a French-speaking /Quebecois producer), and Julie has it listed on her Staff Me Up profile as 9/21-10/23. So I think Irene was hired just shortly before the initial announcement in Sept’21.

Darn it, I would’ve loved to see the very beginning of the Vegas cancellation due “severe and persistent muscle spasms” and how it was managed. By this timeline Irene probably started filming after the diagnosis, correct, the dates are blurring lol.

Celine likes to work with people who treat her like a human, in order to tell her story. Jenna Glatzer for instance. She was only supposed to make one trip out to Vegas to meet with. Celine and compile her book from the one meeting. But Celine called her back multiple times because she made a connection with Jenna. Celine felt comfortable and vulnerable enough to open up to her because it wasn’t just an interview to gather information. It was a conversation. There was laughter, tears and substance. Like someone said above, one of Celine’s talents is reading people. She doesn’t play around when it comes to the people she lets in close.

I wonder what the case with Pepe was… he was arguably the closet person in her circle…

Then boom he was gone, he stopped following her on Instagram, basically like their friendship just vanished. Could she have read that person wrong or maybe he got what he needed from her…or perhaps as the saying goes some people “come into your life for a season” and the relationship just ran its course? Who’s to know.

I also said this weeks ago. It’s the perfect song lyrics for this documentary/soundtrack. They could’ve even released it as a single.

I think the rehersals were filmed for the purposes of a docu (just like for 3BAANS back in 2010), but then they decided to put the focus on her condition

I suppose that they must have clashed because he unfollowed her. Otherwise why would he do that?

But I'm glad that this relationship and phase in her life is over. He didn't have a good influence on her. She was overly crazy back then and didn't come accross very well IMO. Also, her style was terrible at that time. I'm happy that she decided to go back to being classy again.
