Maybe they just didn’t want the cat out of the bag too early? (Which would have been the case with a screening at Cannes, for instance.) But that just brings me back to the question of “why June 25th?”

Or maybe they considered the glitz & glamour of something like Cannes inappropriate for the subject matter?

 

It’s interesting that the trailer is doing big numbers on unofficial accounts, too. Like this post, which has 2.4m views at the moment. And I’ve seen many versions of this (“take her pain and give it to Clarence Thomas / Trump / [pick your villan]”.

It’s great to see how loved she is. Ironically Celine has moved to a place where she’s popular for her warmth and personality, her likeability factor of the “coo-coo aunt”… which is why I think this documentary moving from her music (which is why most of us fell in love with her) to Celine the person, who’s having the battle of her life… is going to be what makes this documentary successful. That’s another reason why Irene Taylor was probably the best person for the job, because when I found out she was chosen and we thought this documentary was going to be focused on Celine’s music even I was skeptical if she could pull it off, but when it morphed into something else that’s up her ally… it ended up being a blessing in disguise.

 

The June 25th date is the only reason I tend to believe that maybe there is a plan for a comeback to live shows in the pipeline for maybe an announcement this fall? Because you’re right it doesn’t make much sense otherwise… but it does make sense to plan to push this out to the universe BEFORE the public sees her officially back to the stage, otherwise they wouldn’t be as intrigued to know the battle she’s going through, they probably would fear the public would think, “well Celine was ill but she’s doing better enough to get back so it couldn’t have been that serious”

 

It could be a pipe dream, but factor that in with what we spoke of the AEG rep at her side constantly, leads me to believe somethings coming.

I see that too. She shouldn't have to but the public needs to see her struggle before she announces being back on stage so they don't think well was she really even that sick. So the doc coming out now so she can announce her return to stage this fall makes sense.

 

For so long I think everyone saw her with what they perceived as a perfect life, amazing career, wonderful marriage and 3 great kids. I think people really started to love her and have empathy when Rene got sick and then passed and they saw she was just as human as the rest of us. This is just makes me mad as she shouldn't have to suffer for the public to see what we all knew all along.

I think that’s more about that indeed: the festival glitz could have been counterproductive for the theme of this documentary.

I admit that it is unpleasant to read all these comments about Quebecers who "dare to be" offended at Céline for her recent statements and gestures. Is it so hard to understand that if numerous voices are raised in Quebec (just read the online comments) along the lines of "Céline has betrayed" or "she has forgotten where she came from," it only proves how important she is to Quebecers? Their provincial complex is, after all, her complex. She may experience identity crises at various points in her life - especially now that she's working so hard on herself (perhaps for the first time on a self as person rather than on a self as best-selling singer?), but she'll still always be from there. The history of the United States can easily be written minus someone like Céline. Quebec's history can't.

 

From some documentary - probably the one about TCWT? - I remember the meet-and-greet scene: fans show their adoration for her in various ways, ask for a photo and autograph together, show off tattoos and car registrations with her name on them, come 40 times to see her show. At times she seems slightly - always politely - surprised or amused. But once she looks deeply and sincerely touched: when a young Asian man tells her in French that he doesn't want anything from her, just to tell her that her songs accompany him at important moments in his life, that he learned French and Quebec history for her, and that he now feels a little Quebecer himself.

The trailer has gone viral and this was demonstrated in an increase in Spotify streams. Just read in UKMIX Forum that 8 songs got more than 100k streams each on Friday - SMHOF reached its peak with 274k streams, also TTWII and ABM reached a high of 106k and 100k streams, respectively. She never rehearsed though. The band did, but without her.

 

That’s what I think too. She probably tried to practice a few songs at home like she usually does and that’s probably when she noticed things weren’t right. Also, I suspect it was mainly her voice that she was having issues with and that prevented her from rehearsing and performing. Both initially and all along really.

I’m wondering if the fragility of her voice during some of the CWT concerts was due to the SPS, starting to show in her vocal cords. Because it was inconsistent, some nights she sounded pristine other nights she was at her worst of her career… and it was no rhyme or reason. It would’ve been different if she was consistently weaker in her vocal but she wasn’t.

 

You know what, I’ve never thought of that but I did make a similar connection. Ever since Céline returned to performing in 2011, she has been hitting notes gently and often gradually climbing, like taking a step to get there, whereas before she would just hit them straight on with power. I wonder whether that was because she was being careful to make sure she doesn’t lose control of her voice. We know her voice was otherwise in top shape in 2011.

Watched a movie on Amazon tonight - not my account, but someone with zero Celine in their browsing history - and the only commercial in the middle was a 30-second edit of the Celine trailer. So it seems Amazon is really pushing this to the general public.

So it just seemed these visits would be the way they tied up the film giving it a happy ending. They could have had most of it done at that point and just need to edit in these little bit at the end. But I guess we will all know in a month.

And her first public appearance at the Golden Knights hockey game was on October 30 the day before Halloween of that year… So I think it’s safe to think we won’t see any of that documentary!
