New Las Vegas residency show!

Am I one of the few, if not the only one lol, who hopes she never does another LV residency again (if she does decide to perform again)? In fact, leave the place and homebase elsewhere. And try to innovate a different touring model instead that's less taxing and less work-focused. She's done and conquered LV many times over; she's amassed more than enough $$; I feel there's nothing new to accomplish there, seeking other avenues/challenges would be a nice new phase to consider.

I think at this point it’s no longer her living in Vegas because she’s doing a show there, but rather she’s doing a show there because she lives in Vegas. After 21 years it’s really become her true home, and her kids have their own lives there too.

The best is yet to come...

Video! Look at how she smiles! wub.png

I love seeing her happy and animated. It just makes you smile as a reflex

They were quick to shut down the corps, facilities/offices, etc, soon after the SPS announcement... I wonder what activities/projects those supported that she's clearly decided not to do anymore...

Enjoy your break and total recovery, Céline! Don't rush back to work! really so nice to see her happy.

I once talked to someone who worked at CDA (based in Vegas, not Montreal). Her job was largely logistics, media relations, dealing with ticketing & VIP issues, random requests from Rene… she said Céline has several “archivists” on staff, whose job was to document props and costumes, e.g. what dress was for personal use vs professional (I imagine that’s for tax purposes).

I’m pretty sure that Celine is introducing Nelson to Cameron Diaz (American actress) who’s sitting behind Celine.

Also, is that the bun hair stylist “Dee” sitting next to Celine on side opposite of Nelson?

LV has become the entertainment capital. It’s an easy sell for tickets based on the amount of people who vacation there. Many whom probably don’t base their entire vacation around going to see a specific show. These shows are successful, partially because people can get last minute tickets if they really wanted to, with just that impromptu thought of “oh, let’s go see this show after dinner tonight.” I don’t think it would be the same elsewhere.

Without even trying.

John Katsilometes a blogger for the Las Vegas Review Journal had this to say on X a few minutes ago… btw he was also in attendance at Katy Perry last night.

“Celine was seen dancing throughout last night's Katy Perry show. Second public appearance within a week, after she attended VGK-Canadiens game at T-Mobile on Monday. I'm optimistic about her return next year. Maybe in the spring, even ... Merely an educated assessment ... #Vegas @reviewjournal”

He claims it’s an “educated assessment” that Celine could be back this coming spring. Where are the RW peeps that have knowledge of their calendar for the spring? :hmm:

I believe I saw that scripted line in her show towards her premiere… are we sure that clip was last night?

Theatre is vacant March 17-May 21. Assuming Celine does a 3-week run, she could start was early as March 29 or as late as May 3. April 5 (lucky 5) also happens to be a Friday.

I can see them doing a very limited engagement if and when she does begin the residency. It will probably be something like what Adele does on the weekends. Something like only 2 shows a week and for maybe 4 weeks so like 8 shows in total…

If Celine does return this seems like a very hard decision on how to move forward, i hope the right people are there to assist her.

That's possible, but I think Adele only does weekends because she lives in LA. I think it's more likely Celine will do 3-4 shows per week (T-W-F-S) if she's ready to return. We haven't seen any of the RW residents only doing weekends, but obviously Celine's circumstances are different now. Edited by brendanm999

This is the model that is most probable to happen. Here are the dates from the first and second runs planned for RW in 2021/2022:

November 2021: 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 16, 17, 19, 20

January 2022: 19, 21, 22, 25, 26, 28, 29

February 2022: 1, 2, 4, 5

That was a total of 21 shows over 3 months. I could see something similar to this happening again. We have no idea what a third run would have looked like, but remember that after this run was rescheduled dates for the Courage tour. I think this residency was always meant to be lighter than previous (especially AND...) but Celine's circumstances have changed so that definitely puts a huge question mark on the whole thing.

I still don’t want her to go to Resorts World 😣

She should go use The Sphere. Imagine those visuals 😍

Agree, but the sphere is under Live Nation, I think:(

The Sphere is an MSG venue, and I think they have a deal with Live Nation, so with Céline being an AEG artist that’s unlikely.

The RW theater looks underwhelming, and not thrilled with that being her venue, but hey, if she can perform again (still an “if”…), I’ll take what I can get.

In any case, good to see John Meglen there with her last night. (And John Nelson too, I think? Hard to tell from back of head alone.)

At this rate I could care less if it’s Circus Circus, as long as she defies the odds and can safely make a comeback!

Nothing really new here, but Variety picked this up and is quoting John Katsilometes (the LV Review Journal columnist):

https://variety.com/2023/music/news/celine-dion-attends-katy-perry-finale-las-vegas-residency-1235780818/

“The sight of Dion in the crowd for Perry’s swan song managed to get even more attention than the attendance of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.”

Ooh, interesting. Thanks for sharing. Could be a clue how she might move forward.

I get why LV is a profitable choice for a performer vs stereotypical touring. I just hope she doesn't do it because that's what she's used to, like how she was with her MHWGO hesitation, why do something else when this is fine, we're coasting. Maybe I'm too conscious of her stature and extraordinary talent—I don't want her LV legacy to taper off with half-filled venues years down the line (end LV reign on a high note iow) and I think her not unlimited time as a vocalist and performer (especially in light of SPS) is too precious to be a perpetual routine LV act. Katy Perry and, say, Michael Bolton, perpetually in LV, I can understand. Pavarotti, Madonna, Whitney (when she was still good) on LV for 20+ years, not so much.

However, as per good point @Céline RO made, perhaps this is more a case of work near her permanent home, rather than maintaining a temp home for work. And whatever makes her happy, I guess, so if it's fans accessibility, then that makes sense.

I was talking in response to you saying she should choose a different city. NYC a might be okay, because she could do it as a Broadway show like Bruce Springsteen and Melissa Etheridge have done. But apart from that, I just don’t see it making sense to base anywhere else when LV has truly become THE place for residencies.
