but the way he - the dj then responds is like - yes this is Franky’s playlist and we get to hear Celine Dion ( basically saying it is something we normally won’t ) i get from him that they do not play her often. It should be normal to play her songs!

Unfortunately showing that even with a catchy song, there is a long way before radio will play Céline new English material...

I suspect FOMO was an experiment, and the reason they didn't make it an official release / send it to radio, was because they wanted to test the waters and see what kind of organic reception it would get. Presumably it was done this way to inform the kind of material that makes the final cut for the record.

But how can they get just feedback from this?

The best feedback should be that everyone sang along to it at BTS... but then?

What do you mean?

Analytics.

That's how these decisions are made.

Maybe it's just me, but I believe that with proper promotion FOMO could easlity have had IDAN's success.

Its has good vibes and positive lyrics. I guess when Sony said it's a gift to the fans

they really meant only hard-core fans will know about its existence.

But what data do they use for analysing?

I mean no one knows of it's existence. It's like showing off a painting in a pitch-black room and then ask "did they like it?".

Views, listens, impressions & click-through rates, demographic and geographic data, skip rates, watch time, replay rates, playlist additions, playlist placement (which matters a great deal, actually), shares, traffic sources, search volumes & keywords, Shazams, play-through rates, daily actives, growth/ decay rates, comment sentiment, downloads, viral coefficients, ROI on paid media, likes / dislikes, comment volumes, click-through rates on social media content, unique cookies, views/ listens per cookie, earned views/ listens/ subs, cover/ remix/ sample volumes, retention rates, ASCAP/ BMI/ SoundExchange collections, hashtags, other artists in listener/ viewer cohorts, other tracks in listener/ viewer cohorts, listening / viewing platforms & DSPs (e.g. mobile or voice-controlled? Spotify or Deezer?, etc.), organic press coverage, social media engagement...

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I think that's actually the point.

I guess this is a test case and that they believe they have better tracks in stock but of different genres. And they need to decide what to do with the direction of the album. Before investing in a sound, I guess it's about testing the reactions to see if the music has any impact (and which one) independent of the money invested in.

But that's my two cents as I am not a marketing specialist. :giggle:

I get the testing.

But just release it and do absolutely nothing with it, how is that testing?

Guess radios adding it themselves is a good thing

I don't believe they wanted to test it, it doesn't make any sense.

Yes, It could be that they don't know in what direction to go, after the results of her last English album.

Seeing her path in fashion something tells me that for the new Album

she will come with something totally new and unique, at least for some songs,

and then she will combine between both of them Fashion/Music.

Waiting for the Billboard update about FOMO's ranking.

But the thing is they nevet go in any direction with any of her English albums.... they all have waaay too many genres and types of songs desperatly playing it safe and not daring going in one or at leaat a couple of directions. Thus leaving the albums without coherense, direction and theme.

So by testing such an album where there's 16 completly different sounds is to me just weird, since by that there probably wont be anything more like FOMO on the album but FOMO itself.

I do hope I am wrong and that they for once are Taking Chances (risking someone of a certain taste not finding a single track they don't like) giving the album coherense, quality and senserity (and creativity) and thereby actually giving Courage a direction and uniqeness.

I will go on to repeat this coz I am finding it hard to repect the attitudes of her latest eng albums (if it was one it might be ok but I see a pattern), going for too much "diversity" between tracks and playing it safe both in trying to please EVERYONE (making tona of money), giving the impression of a somewhat sloppy and poor production all of this letting creativity and artistry step aside.

Yeah, that's definitely a problem. They're trying to hit every demo and in the process dilute any cohesive artistic vision.

Albums cobbled together by execs rather than artists.

Her French albums don't suffer from this as much because there's less riding on them for Sony. But the English ones are engineered to hit the widest audience possible and their way of doing that is throwing everything at it.

Artistry suffers badly as a result.

Well its probably just to establish the baseline level of interest in / viral potential of an uptempo, contemporary single. My suspicion is that there is an equal number of ballads and uptempo tracks being considered for the tracklist, and had FOMO generated a respectable amount of buzz on its own just by virtue of it sounding different and surprising from Celine, they would have gone with a more EDM-heavy tracklist.

This is significant because the tracklist issue needs to be resolved before they finalize a marketing plan. As of yet, no marketing plan has been in place, which should be quite obvious.

Is this album going to be "Celine Dion's return to form" or "Celine's first EDM / dance album"? This must be the question they are asking, and perhaps this is also connected to the leak of PMLALS.

Yet EUS and SA both sold 1.5 million worldwide... her last English album LMBTL sold 1.5 million worldwide... :whistling1:
