A sham bride chose the Celine Dion song The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face to play as she walked down the aisle to marry a man she barely knew, a court heard.

 

 

Vania Pinheiro-Fernandes, 29, bought her dress, tiara, wedding veil, and flowers from BHS in Leeds for £245 on the morning of her marriage to Hull university masters student Jayeola Abiola, 29.

 

But the music was never played as the Border Agency police moved in to arrest the bride in one room and the groom in the other at Hull's Guildhall, Hull Crown Court heard.

 

Nigerian-born Jayeole Abiola, 29, of Grafton Street, Hull, and bride Portuguese Pinheiro-Fernandes, 29, of Park Hotel, Manchester, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to breach immigration law by arranging a marriage so Abiola could remain in the UK.

 

But their best man Ayodeji Abbis, 25, of Grange Road, Hunslet, pleaded not guilty to being party to the conspiracy and receiving £1,000 for his trouble.

 

Opening the prosecution case, barrister Edward Bindloss said Mr Abbis was in the dock because he arrived with the wedding party and was to be the best man as two people were needed as witnesses for it to be legal.

 

"The song to be played first was Celine Dion's The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. It showed someone had a sense of humour."

 

Now maybe she'll be singing "The Last Time Ever I Saw Your Face"

Watching the tcwt Montreal dvd brings back memories of being there and seeing Celine for the first time. The standing ovation at the beginning of My Love was extraordinary. Also cool to see myself on S'il suffisait d'aimer.

I find it fascinating that a common thread runs among us all, yet we focus on what we really love about Celine apart from her music, of course. For example, if you have a question about collecting, or catalog numbers, you can refer to John and Davey; a question about voice tones or notes, go ask Luke or Mike; a question about clothes and appearance, the expert is Frida; a question about live performances, turn to Carlitos, etc etc etc..... I am fascinated with music charts.

Yes, it's great how someone make an impact in your life and you know you will support her every move though you may never get the chance to sit and talk to her face to face.

 

And I agree. Sure, there have been moments in her career that have made me go but still I kept buying her albums and enjoying her material, and she's never come down the ladder in terms of the person I admire the most in showbusiness.

I've been looking for the Golden Globe Shows from the '90s where Celine won her awards for best original song etc. But I cannot find them anywhere.. Is it because she never appeared or performed her songs there? Where these shows never broadcasted (don't think so)?

Or whatever other reason?

As far as I remember, original songs are not usually broadcast during the live Golden Globes show, and I don't remember seeing her there. I remember Carole Bayer Sager accept her award for "The Prayer," and James Horner thanking Celine when he won, but I don't recall any other moment when Celine was there. I may be wrong, though. Will do some research as well.

I received the "Any Other Way" vinyl single today and I read on its back that the cover was by Safari and Syme. I did some research about it, and Hugh Syme also handled the art direction and design for "Unison" and "Live À Paris". I was also surprised that Celine is just one of a handful of acts with whom he has worked that is not a hard rock or metal band.

But usually it is at the Academy Awards where they are sung. I don't know why that is, but I think it's the most fast-paced nature of the GGs, as there are so many awards to be handed out. Yeah I don't know whether she has been invited or not. For sure, the writers of the songs are, like as you said, Adele was there last year. At least she could have been invited once to present the Best Song award, given her wide connection to several movies.

Yeah...well, common sense would tell she once attended, since the whole ceremony gathers lots of world wide attention. However, we have no evidence to substantiate

J Lo made me appreciate tonight the amount of effort Celine and the team are putting into the new album because honestly if that's what it takes to get into the charts these days i'm glad Celine isn't bothering. The Power of Love is still remembered, and performed, to this day. As is Because You Loved Me. So is My Heart Will Go On. Celine's songs will be remembered for generations to come.

 

Songs like J Lo's "Live It Up" won't be remembered next year, never mind in 10 years.

I agree with you! She's a role model -not only because the way she dresses -though I wouldn't mind to have some bits of her wardrobe - but because the way she is. She's a genuine, kind, wise, honest... human being; not only she cares for her fans -and family of course! but for fellow singers, given them advice on how to remain true. I mean, as she said at the Billboard's press room, we've witnessed the tragedy of many great artist who at some point of their career just got lost. I found very interesting a comment regarding young artist "to have success is not hard...to remain the person that you are is the most difficult thing to accomplish... I wish them the very best of luck, NOT in their career but in their personal life." Amazing!

 

Also, with many recent succesful artists I've asked myself "why people looks up to him/her! S/he is not a role model! and on top of that s/he can't sing!!" I believe is the big show they put on... Celine, her voice is enough!!! She doesn't need a big spectacle -as a fan I'm happy for the shows she does of course!!! Her voice will be more than enough, don't you all agree??

 

She has this... Je ne sais quoi that makes you trust her immediately, that makes you feel comfortable like you were chatting with and old friend -and she's a super star!!! I don't know her and never met her in person but through the interviews she gives, we get to know her more!

 

Yes, I'm glad she's way over looking success, making albums to produce hits, she does it because she loves it, that's great for us fans because we get want she want us to hear not what a label/discography/director... told her "you got to do this to keep up"

These spring dates aren't released until after the current run of shows, which is usually over in September so probably in October they will be released. If I were you I would wait till you know the dates for sure before booking a plane ticket and hotel and just a suggestion I would try and shoot for a March concert, because based on past years she tends to get sick in February! Hope this helps!

 

 

Thanks for the help unfortunately i wasn't able to wait for the dates due to the prices increasing the longer i waited so have a flight booked on 12th march 2014 and im staying at the excalibur for 10 nights. hopefully she will perform within those ten nights, if not then i'm sure i will still enjoy las vegas!
