Heck yes I agree with you totally 100%!!! 🙌

Even though I know that we should "BE EXCITED" about this "Aline" movie thing (@ least according to some of the Celine fans on social media that if we were "true fans" of Celine, than we "should all be jumping up & down in joy & sooo excited about this movie", since it IS "considered" a "project" of Celines (although it has NO INVOLVEMENT FROM THE REAL CELINE @ all, & is a TOTALLY FICTIONAL CHARACTER BASED ON CELINE!) Yea all that is based on the comments on social media from Celine fans towards anybody who dare to say a bad word about this movie, Im not kidding! 🙄

But sorry, I am gonna say it, I just CAN NOT get excited about "Aline", & yes I am still a TRUE FAN of Celines no matter what anybody else says or thinks!

& again NOTHING AGAINST Valerie whatever-her-last-name-is, but she is NOT THE REAL CELINE & I JUST CANT THINK OF HER AS, sorry I just cant! & WHY do they have a GROWN WOMAN playing a baby or even a small CHILD? Again sorry, that is juat weird & freaky! & the guy who is playing Rene is also VERY CREEPY-LOOKING also! Poor Rene is probably rolling in his grave right now! 😬

& another thing, it is NOT LIKE Celine has passed away & we no longer have the real Celine around! Yes she has been on a long hiatus (thanks to the pandemic, & now her current health battles,) but she is STILL LIVING! Sorry but "Aline" is NOT CELINE & NEVER WILL BE, ITS MY OPINION!

Again it DOES NOT make me lesser of a fan for not going gah-gah over "Aline"! To me it looks like the newer, French-language version of that cheap Lifetime movie from the 2000s called "Celine", (based on tge real Celine, BUT WAS VERY LOUSY with an "actress" who played Celine but COULD NOT SING herself out of a paper bag! Sorry but either they SHOULD have used CELINES RECORDINGS for that movie, or hired an actress who would @ least had somewhat RESEMBLED CELINE & COULD SING!) & DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE A**HOLE "ACTOR" WHO PLAYED RENE, WHO WAS ALSO CREEPY LOOKING & EVEN MADE FUN OF RENE ON INTERVIEWS AFTER THAT MOVIE, SERIOUSLY! YUCK! Sorry but I REALLY DISLIKED THAT PIECE OF CRAP "MOVIE" very much, only seen it once (& ONCE TOO MANY!) & I remember reading something online years later that Celine & Rene also DISLIKED that movie & had wanted NOTHING to do with it! & I CANT SAY I blame them! & I just have the feeling that "Aline" is just another "Lifetime Celine Movie from the 2000s part 2"... 😝

sincerely, maria :) <3

I bet there is a French-language interview out there where Valerie explaisn the decision to play Celine all throughout the movie. Maybe I'll spend some time looking up interviews with her, it's been on my to-do list. Her Tumblr is interesting too for those who wanna check that out.

Agreed. I don't plan on seeing this. Even if it ends up on a streaming service. The whole idea behind just creeps me out.

I think this is an unintentional insult towards Rene lol.

Huh? What’s “weird & creepy” about him?

TV documentary coming up. Sorry if this as already shared elsewhere...so much media to keep track of!

Right, OK so it’s this and “Une Voix, un destin” on TMC, airing the same evening (both new, it seems), and there are some rebroadcasts that evening as well (prime time and going to 3:30am!)

Also can’t keep track. I expect these will be available for catch-up… provided you’re in France.

They’re certainly really pushing this in France (no surprise given the budget). Wonder how it’s going to do at box office, COVID ‘n’ all.

I’m extremely excited for this movie and planning to drive up to Montreal to see it. This forum is forever like the current state of America, DIVIDED ON EVERYTHING, lol… slight sad face, but it’s what it is at the same time.

She talks about it in this discussion from earlier today, for example (~16min in). Also on the panel are Sylvain and Danielle:

Sounds like the producers have been offering to show the film to Celine for 2 years at this point, and she hasn't taken them up on the offer (yet). But apparently some of Rene's family have seen it recently, as has Scott Price (or, at least, Valerie says "son directeur musical" so I assume she means Scott, but perhaps it's Mego).

It's still so wild to me that Sylvain not only looks so much like Rene - right down to the kind eyes - but also happens to be from Charlemagne and only 4 years older than Celine. Given how tiny Charlemagne is, they may have gone to school together! What a perfect find for Valerie (on paper at least, haven't seen his acting so can't speak to that.)

I find that to be cool. They are using CGI effects in this movie. And she has so many roles lol Actress and Director

LOL, well, never mind. W9 cancelled their evening-of-Céline programming after finding out it would be going head-to-head with TMC in the same time a slot.

Yes, I think I heard an interview where Sylvain talked about being from Charlemagne and that connection. He would be a very vital piece of information in this. I bet at least one member of Celine's family knew or knew of him or his family in some way.

But yes, these Quebeckers who have grown up with Celine are a vital resource for knowledge. And very lucky!

Scielle, or anyone else, did you understand her answer? My French is very basic, so I only understand the part about how she said when Celine was young she already sang like an adult.

I'm looking forward to watching this movie, anyone from the forum has seen it.

Here where I live there is no release forecast

The scene with Valérie playing Baby Aline was cut from the film. However, the scene where she plays Aline as a child is still in the film. I'm still boycotting the use of the health pass but I think I will make an exception for Aline.

"-Why didn't you talk about Thérèse Dion's death in the film?

- Well, when we shot the film, she was still alive."

She says she didn't want to sound Québécoise too much because in emotional scenes when she speaks Québecoise it becomes funny and less emotional. She even instructed Québecois actors to sound less Québecois because she didn't want to add subtitles for the French audience.

And also my theory was right ! She says she weighs 7 kilograms more now than when she shot the film and wouldn't be able to play Céline now.

She explains how she played young Céline/Aline with a gigantic desk to look smaller or a trap on the floor to hide her legs.

The song "The Power of Love" was cut from the film because she didn't obtain the rights.

She says she was asked if the scene in which a character says Céline instead of Aline was an unintentional goof, which it isn't.

The actress playing Maman Dion says that in Québec they are not used to big budget movies so when Valérie asked her to do many takes she didn't know why and assumed her playing was bad. Valérie asked her to play as if she was in a play by Tennessee Williams.

This interview by the audience is very thorough and kinda funny.

The many takes things makes me chuckle. Oh, also Valerie posted this on her Tumblr. I assume she was is already or heading for Quebec.

Unless those are someone else's Tim Hortons photos, or are old, then yeah, she's in Canada.

Meanwhile, more promo in France -

Though Montreal premiere is not until Nov 23rd, so those probably are old photos. I imagine Valerie is going to be doing promo in France right up to opening day.

I'm curious to see how different the reception in Quebec will be from that in France. I expect the QC audience to be far more critical & protective of her story (plus fully expect ongoing complaints about Valerie's accent).

It's been cool to see the different posters and trailers pop up, in all the different languages. Local distributors are starting to do their thing.

I thought I read that she was meant to be in Quebec around this time. I don't know if she will come back for the premiere.

Also, I wonder if anyone is gonna ask about Celine's Vegas cancellation to Valerie. I agree, it is so cool seeing a global local distributor launch. Neat.

According to JDM, she's to take part in the gala premiere at Place des Arts, but I suppose it could be that she's doing some pre-promo earlier as well. Montreal's beautiful at this time of year, with all the leaves changing colour, so I wouldn't blame her for wanting to be there!

"...une grande première avec tapis rouge à Montréal, le 23 novembre prochain, au Théâtre Maisonneuve de la Place des Arts. L’actrice et réalisatrice française Valérie Lemercier fera le voyage au Québec pour assister à cette soirée de gala organisée par le Festival de films Cinemania."

I interpreted this, from Valerie's Tumblr, as the QC promo tour. But who knows...

I imagine she'll show up at screenings and do the Quebec talk show tour - maybe Julie Snyder? There's a scene in the movie recreating Julie's interview with Celine about Rene's heart attack.

Very nice handwriting. When I saw that, I assumed October but November is good too. It is nice to have something to look forward to now that Celine is recovering

I wonder if they will release a soundtrack for this film. Usually, they release first the soundtrack before showing the film to theaters

So looks like TMC has specials planned not only about Céline but also about Valérie:

What I don’t get, is they made Valérie digitally younger, but not Sylvain? Rene was 38 when they met. I don’t know any 38-yr-olds who look like they’re in their 50s… It’s all going to come off more extreme than it already was.

It would have been a great move to release something.

But I guess they will do that when her official docu is getting out.

Plus looks like Valérie, Sylvain and Victoria are on Michel Drucker’s show on Nov 7th (not surprised since he’s also in the movie, as himself, I believe!)

Heavy, heavy promo. Certainly much bigger than for Céline’s last album.

Ohlala, I've seen it !!!!!!!

It's a nice movie, a very nice movie. Not a Lifetime movie. But much better. Not that I have ever seen a Lifetime movie. But this one is definitely the kind I would like to rewatch.

I don't know if what I will say next are spoilers or not. Well, you know Céline's life but not the film Aline.

What is different with the character of Aline is that she seems coy during the whole film. I thought she would be shy and childlike during her childhood and then become more exuberant. But she remains quite shy and childlike even as an adult.

She doesn't seem to be particularly happy when Guy-Claude unexpectedly arrives at Eurovision.

The family is very important in the film, especially in the first part. Aline is almost a secondary character.

There are scenes that are famous episodes of Céline's life that are portrayed differently on purpose in order to make us laugh. And other moments that are very faithful but that only fans will know that they are true.

The interview in which she says she's deeply in love but can't tell who it is is famous in Québec but not very famous in France and many people laughed on that moment. I think I was the only one in the room to be moved because I knew it was a real moment of Céline's life.

The ending is a let-down. It's farfetched and hurried. It could have been more emotional, had she taken the time.

Her husband dies so rapidly. They never mentioned he was sick, or so rapidly that I didn't grasp it. She walks downtown and is mistaken for a lookalike of herself. The team don't see her coming and cancel the concert. And she's on stage singing Ordinaire. Hey, what happened? I thought the concert was cancelled.

The first song is "Ordinaire" by Robert Charlebois. The last is "Ordinaire" by Aline / Victoria Sio. The end credits songs are "Natural Boy" and "I'm Alive".
