Yes, the trades (industry press) announced a long time ago that it's getting global distribution; the Gaumont sales team has been shopping it around since pre-production (since that's how you fundraise to fund a film's budget - international presales). They just haven't announced the US distributor yet; I imagine they'll do so at Cannes, since that tends to be how it happens. I'd be interested to see who picks it up for the US. BTW, I have a bit of an issue with how they've digitally made Valerie younger, but not Sylvain. The scene where she sings in his office, he's supposed to be 38... I don't know any 38-year-old man who looks that old!

 

More international release dates coming out on the Unifrance site.

Late Nov & Dec for a number of markets.

Interesting that US release is to be in "early 2022" All award-bait films tend to come out in late fall / before the end of the year to meet eligibility requirements, and Jan/ Feb tend to be the window where left-overs go to die. I suppose that means not much competition But then again, Covid has messed with all the usual patterns, so I guess we'll see how next year plays out.

I went to see the latest Bond movie and they were playing the Aline commercial right before the movie, I was so surprised. They also had posters up promoting the release.

It's getting talked about in the newspapers as well.

 

Can't wait to finally see it come November.

At least, right? They’re showing the trailer and everyone is seeing it in your country. Great that you can now go to theaters in your country.

It depends if your area has many cases of Covid. Obviously, it will be postponed

It's fun to speculate since I don't no when or even if I'll ever get to see this film. I've been watching all the trailers for the release of this movie trying to imagine what it will be like. There's one part that I cant quite figure out. Please let me explain. In real life Rene went away before she had her makeover, & returned a year later to see her new look & for sure was not going anywhere. lol. In the movie it looks like he leaves after she gets her makeover after a talking to with her mother, & walks out as she's singing on stage. My question is how are they going to get these two back together? I noticed in the newest trailer for film she's standing backstage with someone with glasses & a suit, & someone else is walking through the door on right hand side. Anyone have any ideas how they will get back together? Or am I only one & I need to get a life I know. Ha Ha. thank you all for any thoughts

Thanks for sharing this. I can't make up my mind about this movie. I quite enjoyed the two scenes that bookended the song but I thought the lipsynching wasn't very good. Not "Celine" enough for me. And when she hits herself in the chest, it's like she does it in slow motion. I don't think I'd go see this in a theater but would definitely at least check it out on a streaming service from my sofa.

I had the same feeling watching this performance.

For a song that's been performed many times, when lots of footage can be found on YouTube.

Even for this special occasion.

 

I know it's not Celine, but Aline.

But yet I can't unsee Celine :giggle: all I think watching this performance is she doesn't move like that, she would have had 6 different poses in those 30 seconds.

Does anyone know if it’ll have English subtitles in Quebec? My French is comme çi comme ça, but would definitely prefer knowing everything that’s being said.

I thought she was fine. "Aline" is an old film for her now. She's rehearsing for her next live show. Now I've just seen her interview by Patrick Simonin. I found it strange when she said "I hope Céline sees my film before my death" and "I'm not capable of playing Céline anymore" but apart from that, she seemed fine. Edited by Balao
