Bell Posted January 3, 2023 at 06:12 PM Posted January 3, 2023 at 06:12 PM I happened to see "Aline'' (partly) a few days ago. I couldn't stand till the end, didn't like it at all. It's unaccurate to say the least, I hope this thing is unauthorized. Quote 16 YEARS A FORUM MEMBER
ryba Posted January 5, 2023 at 11:29 PM Posted January 5, 2023 at 11:29 PM (edited) So I watched Aline today. Well, what can I say… I quite enjoyed the first part on how her career started. It was funny and enjoyable. I liked how they displayed Maman Dion and how she wanted to protect her. As real fans we know that the second part was inaccurate, but it was not an official biopic. The singing and dancing was really cheap. Valerie couldn’t deliver Celines stage persona at all. She had no stage presence, no energy, and she made it look awkward. The MHWGO story was completely wrong. Also, she displayed Aline as very quiet, weak, but we know that Celine is the opposite. But all in all, it was interesting to see. I’m really curious if Celine saw it and I would love to hear her comments. Edited January 5, 2023 at 11:29 PM by ryba Quote

jpatdeleon09 Posted January 7, 2023 at 03:25 AM Posted January 7, 2023 at 03:25 AM (edited) We can have a proper movie about Céline if she retires from singing or you know….. I don’t want to say it. For sure, hollywood biopic film makers will do a film about Céline and it will be great. I wonder who will play greatly as Céline Dion… Edited January 7, 2023 at 03:27 AM by jpatdeleon09 Quote

PuraVida Posted January 7, 2023 at 08:20 PM Posted January 7, 2023 at 08:20 PM I would absolutely support Cate as Céline. And she speaks French! Never knew she spoke French. I did hear she learned German for her latest movie Tar -- which was stellar acting, btw. I wonder what a "serious" biopic about Celine look like. In any case, I do believe Aline is the best one we will ever see -- for better or worse. Quote

I've read that someone from her team said if she sees it, it will make her sad.Someone from her team, I don't know, but Valérie Lemercier herself repeated that during the promotion, claiming that it must be boring for Céline to see something inspired by her life and sad to see all those she loved and are gone now... Chantemoi Posted April 6, 2023 at 07:30 AM Posted April 6, 2023 at 07:30 AM I searched to see if Aline is available for streaming anywhere in the U.S. and was surprised to see it’s included for free on Amazon Prime Video. Not sure how long it’s been streaming there, or for how long it will be… If you haven’t seen it yet, now’s your chance! Quote
Chantemoi Posted April 9, 2023 at 12:37 AM Posted April 9, 2023 at 12:37 AM (edited) Update: I rewatched the movie on Amazon Prime and I have to say I liked it even better the second time! The only scene that bothers me as a fan is the one towards the end where Aline cancels her concert, which undermines Céline’s commitment to performing unless it’s *physically* impossible. I get what the scene is trying to say, especially since Céline‘s near “radio silence” since the pandemic, but it still feels like a misrepresentation. Watching it again, tears jerking off from the very first scene...With time, we would understand that Valérie, understood the essence of Céline's family background, psychology...Aline is a real tribute... A Real real thanks to her for respecting Céline and her inner personality and Family background 3 Quote

Davey84 Posted November 6, 2023 at 10:06 AM Posted November 6, 2023 at 10:06 AM The movie got 4.74 million viewers!! That is amazing!! Hopefully this also means a good boost in Céline s album sales. A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th

Let us hope if/ when she’s ready, the media and audiences are there for her. It was good to see how widely the “Céline makes first public appearance in years” story was picked up. 3 Quote

scielle Posted June 28, 2024 at 02:21 AM Posted June 28, 2024 at 02:21 AM So Globe & Mail has a "top 5 things to watch this week" list, which features 2 Celine films - IACD and Aline, along with this write-up: "If the above-mentioned Prime Video doc doesn’t adequately scratch your Celine Dion itch, perhaps this enchanting and totally bananas film from France’s Valérie Lemercier will do the trick. At the beginning of Aline, a title card appears on-screen noting that the film is “freely inspired” by the life of Dion. Okay, sure, but consider the evidence: The film follows a young Québécois singer named Aline, who comes from a family of 14 children. She becomes a world-famous pop star after becoming a client of her decades-older manager (Sylvain Marcel), whom she eventually marries. She sings several Dion hits, including My Heart Will Go On. And at one point someone mistakenly calls her Celine. But it’s not about Dion. Okay.Ultimately none of the above points matters in the grand scheme of Aline, because the most outrageous and wonderful thing about the film is how director-writer-star Lemercier chose to make it. In that: She plays Aline/Celine from the ages of 5 through 50. Using a deliberately (?) shoddy combination of makeup, digital effects and other postproduction tricks, Lemercier plays essentially a grown woman trapped in a little girl’s body, like a French-language spin on Martin Short in Clifford. Or, well, I honestly don’t know. It’s certainly worth trying to puzzle out on your own at home." https://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/film/article-what-to-watch-june-27/ Quote
