So happy many people around the world can see this. This is big!

Just saw the film yesterday. I absolutely loved it. It really is an ode to Céline and especially René. Maman Dion too. It was so well done and the music they included showed great detail. Mamy Blue, Tellement j'ai d'amour, Bozo... and as said before, chronologically it wasn't spot on especially towards the end. I saw it with my boyfriend who isn't a fan like me - he appreciates her - but he also loved the film.

The cinema was packed. And at the end several people stayed to dance to "I'm Alive."

That’s good. Happy to know even the non fans likes the film :)

Not sure how the film would be subtitled. It would lose so much. A lot of the humor is in the language. Tons of hilarious nods to Québec.

Do you have one or two examples you could please share? Without giving away anything too much from the film, that is. Thanks

By the way, the Montreal gala premiere is tonight, at Place des Arts. It’ll be interesting to see what the Québécois think of it all.

God Claudette hated it. It s her right but her response or arguments are so weird and stupid like she completely missed the point or did not understand anything. Ugh 😩 poor Valerie

From the preview, it looks like Claudette's gonna be dramatic

We didn't see the same film. Is she really talking about Aline? She said she didn't want to know anthing about the film and now she's talking about it but it shows that she hasn't seen it.

What can be better publicity than a controversy. :-D

Valérie named her movie Aline to avoid such reactions from the family. She and her film are benevolent. It's clear that it's a "movie inspired by" and not a biopic. So what is the fuss about?

Les Dion démolissent Aline | La Presse

Ohlala. Much ado about nothing. Are the Québecers that sensitive? Can't they make fun of themselves? The reasons they gave for trashing the film are ridiculous. They want the film to be humorless. They just don't get the point.

They said the research around the movie/Celine's life was poorly done, they debunked many scenes in the movie Aline in the program les 4 Julies. They did not like the liberties that Aline took in telling the story.

Is Valerie in Quebec right now? I looked at her Tumblr and I couldn't tell.

Ouch. I was really looking forward to seeing Valérie on Julie’s show, seeing as one of her interviews is recreated in the movie. I find it odd Valérie wouldn’t want to come on and explain her approach. (Per the below, she canceled her appearance after finding out about Claudette and Michel’s comments.)

the point is they have the right to have their opinion. What is funny for people from France is not the always funny to us, humor doesn't translate well a lot of times. Haven't seen the movie still, maybe i will like it , maybe not. If i don't like it, i sure hope i have the right to do .

I am trying to not read too much (even in this thread) about the film before seeing it.

I am supportive of different reviews of the film, as long as they watched the movie and hopefully their critiques are actually interesting and based in something substantial. I have not read Claudette's comments, but she strikes me as very hard to please.

I think it's only natural that if someone else is telling your story, or one that's tangentially yours and you have a vested interest in, you'd be fixated on minute details the rest of us would consider inconsequential. So while I find their comments odd in light of the long-communicated aim of the film and the fact Valerie has been clear all along that she intentionally changed a number of things for cinematic effect, I do also get why they'd be sensitive about certain details most of us wouldn't notice. That said, if they were expecting a documentary, they clearly missed the point!

Pretty much everything I've read from France has been positive, Quebec seems divided (either love it or hate it!), and the anglophone critics thus far just seem perplexed (as we noted around the time those reviews came out post Cannes, and as Brendan Kelly writes in his Montreal Gazette piece today). In any case, Quebec tabloids will be in a tizzy and nothing sells tickets like a good controversy!

I am ready to throw tomatoes at Anglophone cultural critics. Do your freaking job and judge the film as it stands, on its merits. It's not like it's theoretical physics.

(Mind you I am staying away from their reviews until I view the film, but if they cannot get over the use of CGI then I don't know what to tell them.)

Did Valerie ask for help from Celine's camp or her friends/colleagues/relatives in preparation for the film? Does anyone know?

I mean, these are a lot of the same critics that loved I'm Not There (a quasi-biopic in which Cate Blanchet plays Bob Dylan) so Valerie as 12-yr-old Celine shouldn't be that much of a leap...

Anyway, this is from Radio Canada earlier today -

Valerie & Sylvain were also on Tout Le Monde en Parle (a major Quebec talk show) this past weekend - https://ici.radio-canada.ca/tele/tout-le-monde-en-parle/site/segments/entrevue/379609/guy-lepage-valerie-lemercier-sylvain-marcel

I saw the movie tonight in Montreal with my mom and she loved it . She said she would even give it a 10/10 . From my point of view , I thought it was great entertainment but it really felt ackward watching a movie about Celine without ever feeling her spirit/aura. There are a lot of funny scenes but the playbacks and performance scenes are just awful for me.

The French makeup artist is the fictionnal part that is the absolute worst addition in the film.

I had a great evening but it made me miss Celine even more. The movie is awesome for what it is .. a work of fiction but there is no reason to have some songs coming back 2-3 times .. this must be again for budget reasons.

I still think Celine deserves nothing under Bohemian Rapsody standards but I'm thankful this French proposition exists even with all the obvious flaws.
