jpatdeleon09 Posted December 1, 2021 at 10:12 AM Posted December 1, 2021 at 10:12 AM They sang it live at Les Enfoirés in early 1996, and later that same year in Taratata. Is there a studio recording of their duet that would have allowed them to do a lipsynched performance many years later on TV ? We don't know... now that you’ve mentioned i wonder if there’s a duet studio version of the two. Because they haven’t done lipping this song it’s always live. And that rumour about planning of doing a lipsync together. I mean, how? There’s no studio version of that song together… Quote

Doing this takes at least weeks or at least a month before doing the taping of the show. Then, practice it to sync your mouth with the recording or else we will see ala Mariah Carey lipsync debacle (with a sip of tequila) Saying that they were planning to do the lipping talking about it backstage the same day then changes the last minute is…. Unbelievable. Well, it’s a rumour anyways. Not 100 percent true. Edited December 1, 2021 at 04:12 PM by jpatdeleon09 Quote

Unbelievable. Well, it's a rumour anyways. Not 100 percent true. I would bet that Celine is a very fast learner with this kind of stuff. After all she's had years of practice. And if you are very familiar with the song---as Maurane and Celine are with that song, there is a great advantage. That is not to say that having more time doesn't help. I am pretty sure at the Whitney Houston tribute, the reason they made the fans wait until like 1 or 3am in the morning is because Celine was backstage learning her lipped vocals for the performance. As for the refute of the report about the lipping, the article seemed to say Celine never complained and that she rehearsed twice. That doesn't seem like a direct dispute of that man's claim, because Celine has always done live rehearsals for songs that were lipped during the concert themselves. We have seen that time and time again. Quote
Dancing_Queen Posted December 1, 2021 at 09:38 PM Posted December 1, 2021 at 09:38 PM Not sure which article you are referring to, but definitely not the one I posted. They (the Belgian TV crew who was involved in production and had lobbied for Mauarane to be there) said that Céline didn't even know Maurane was coming due to a miscommunication. So even if they had a playback ready (which seems unlikely), they couldn't have agreed on playback beforehand (as Céline had no idea Maurane was coming), so the argument as desribed makes no sense. I do believe Céline can be terrifying if she wants to be, but Matthieu Delormeau is a drama queen first and foremost. Quote

Yet no evidence with these claims. Well, anyways, it’s your opinion. My opinion still stands. Lipping still needs an amount of practice because every recording you did are not the same. If you’re using a pre recorded track for 5-10 years you don’t need an amount of time to practice anymore since you’re already used with that track for over 5 years. Especially, if it’s a duet. I still don’t believe about that fight backstage. Rumours. Without these amount of practice with a new track. They will end up like Mariah. Edited December 2, 2021 at 03:50 AM by jpatdeleon09 Quote

I have heard of drag performers--the ultimate lip syncers--who can prepare with just hours of preparation. It is not common, but it can be done. I personally believe Celine Dion is so gifted with these musical and motor skill parts of her brain that she could do it. But anyway---this thread should be about Aline. I am glad her siblings reactions to the film was discussed on television. Quote

Drags don’t usually take it seriously when doing that onstage with the amount of body movements and circus. They are more on comedic acts lol it still needs an amount of practice to do that. They need to mouth the words well. (Or else again and again they will be end up like Mariah + with the sip of tequila because of the new recorded track. Drags are not the same. I think they were hoping for that to be Power of Love, but then they couldn't get the rights to use the song, so having that as the film title would just seem odd. Not a fan of the subtitle... but guess it's as close as they could get. 1 Quote

I love hearing Valerie's English, it reminds me of other French people I've met who aren't quite fluent but persistent. I find it very endearing. I am glad Valerie spent a bit of time answering the question (the dreaded question, that I can't stand) about her playing Celine as a young child and young adult. She actually won me over with her argument. Some child actors are good, but with an entire movie focused on one person, you want the actor to be as well-trained as possible. And why wouldn't you want to defend the role entirely if you took it on? Espeially if CGI made it possible. I agree. 1 Quote

Javascript is not enabled OR refresh the page to viewClick here to view the Tweet “Somebody was always bound to do it. But by becoming the first filmmaker to produce a big-screen version of the life of Celine Dion – the Quebec-born singer who rose from local child sensation to global diva under the wing of the much-older impresario who became her husband – French director-actor Valérie Lemercier deserves credit for her sheer intrepidness. The Canadian popular music scene has produced plenty of megastars over the decades, from Neil Young and Joni Mitchell on down to Justin Bieber and The Weeknd. But none has come close to representing for Canada what Ms. Dion represents for Quebec. Her rags-to-riches saga has made her a modern Québécois myth and a symbol of her home province’s cultural distinctness. More than anyone before her, including even René Lévesque, Ms. Dion put Quebec on the map.For a people that has spent much of its four-century-long history longing for outside recognition of its mere existence, Ms. Dion has delivered more in that department than anyone else. Wherever she has gone – and she has gone almost everywhere on this planet – she has made sure audiences know where she is from. Québécois accent and all, she remains her province’s greatest ambassador on the global stage. Most Quebeckers, even those not particularly enamoured of her power ballads or personality, remain understandably defensive of the diva often referred to in the francophone media as “notre Céline nationale.” The local use of the possessive determiner to describe Ms. Dion should be the first sign to any foreigner that toying with her image is not an exercise to be undertaken lightly. So Ms. Lemercier, a popular comedic actress from France, was aware of the professional risk she was incurring in embarking on a project about Ms. Dion. Best known for parodying the rich and famous, Ms. Lemercier might have been expected to serve up a biting satire that makes fun of Ms. Dion’s unsophisticated upbringing in Charlemagne, Que., as the youngest of 14 children born to high-school dropouts Thérèse and Adhémar Dion, and her transformation by husband-manager René Angélil into a global pop star, amassing one of the biggest fortunes (and shoe collections) in show business. But while Ms. Lemercier’s film does contain a few such jibes – at the Waltons-like banter around the Dion kitchen table and at the teenage Ms. Dion’s enormous incisors or her lack of formal education – it is above all an homage to its main subject. To be sure, the characters in Ms. Lemercier’s film all have different names – a legal imperative more than a creative one – and the movie opens with a disclaimer describing it as a “work of fiction” that is only “inspired by the life of Celine Dion.” But what is striking is just how few artistic liberties Ms. Lemercier has taken in her cinematic rendering of Ms. Dion’s life story. Her film is a meticulously faithful – and touching – account of Quebec’s biggest success story.Ms. Lemercier’s film, Aline, opened Nov. 10 in France to surprisingly strong – and several glowing – reviews from notoriously finicky French critics. It has topped the box office there since its release, drawing more than 900,000 spectators in its first two weeks. The French media have provided wall-to-wall coverage of the film and its stars, who, except for Ms. Lemercier, are all Québécois actors.Film critics in Quebec, where Aline opened Nov. 26, have been equally positive. While a few have quibbled with some of the 57-year-old Ms. Lemercier’s creative choices – especially her decision to play Ms. Dion herself from the ages of seven through to 47 – no one has disputed her sincerity. Her admiration for Ms. Dion – especially her authenticity and her work ethic – is evident on screen. The film received a standing ovation at its Nov. 23 Canadian premiere at Montreal’s Place des Arts, where a who’s-who of Quebec artists, producers and celebrities turned out.Two of Ms. Dion’s older siblings, Michel and Claudette, nevertheless tore into Ms. Lemercier last week on a popular Quebec talk show – the sister complaining that the film made the Dion clan “look like a gang of Bougons,” a reference to a defunct Radio-Canada sitcom about a family of welfare fraudsters. “Excuse me, but we didn’t live in a shack in Charlemagne and the house was always clean,” Claudette Dion told host Julie Snyder. “We always say we never knew misery because Mom knew how to do everything, and Dad had three jobs.”While Ms. Dion herself has not commented publicly on Ms. Lemercier’s film, she has every reason to be at peace with it. The real Celine Dion is more enigmatic and eccentric than Ms. Lemercier’s film lets on. And another director might not have been as kind. But she has finally received the big-screen treatment worthy of her extraordinary achievements.” 2 Quote
scielle Posted December 4, 2021 at 03:08 PM Posted December 4, 2021 at 03:08 PM Interesting that the English Canadian press is covering it now - CBC’s Q, Globe & Mail, the Toronto Star had an article, too.
