What a shame that some fans are more worried about the setlist than the problem she still seems to be experiencing with her ear. Get your priorities straight. At least she does and decided to go with her usual setlist minus a few changes. Can't blame her!!! Lucky she even made it to Asia this time...

Purple Rain by Prince is a classic in its own right.

 

Just because MHWGO is Celine’s iconic song, doesn’t mean I want Bette Midler to cover it for 5 years straight, see how mad her fans get lol.

Best post of the day. I love Celine but I'm not gonna worship her every move even when it doesn't make sense.

 

I'll double down my other post; I'd rather see Celine retire than continue down a uncreative path which we all know she has to be bored with, nobody human likes to sing the same song for years on end. I love Celine and would love to see her perform forever, but if she doesn't have the passion for creating anymore than she should retire for awhile until the idea of putting a new show for fans seems fun to her. She's got enough money, retire Celine if you feel like your just doing the show for sake of doing the show.

 

I don't want to be rude cause I am still very new to this forum but saying Celine should retire just because you are tired of her doing the same thing is unfair. There are thousands of people that still want to see/hear her seeing that her shows in Vegas and on tours are sold out or close to it all the time. So maybe the one that's needs a little break from Celine is you and all the others that are unhappy at the moment.

 

I would love it if she would change up her shows more often but I won't say she needs to retire, because what if she does? Then you'd be complaining that she retired and many fans would be sad of not getting to hear her sing again.

 

Also, when she rehearsed her Tokyo show in the last 2 nights in Vegas people here were so happy so why are you now disappointed? I don't understand, it was clear that what she rehearsed was precisely for this concert. That doesn't mean the concerts in other countries won't have a few different songs as she said she would customize the setlist depending on the country (she might not but we don't know that for sure). But, I mean, I also wouldn't expect her to change the list that much.

 

Sidenote: I love the new dress for FIY. And where are her bangs? Or was that really just a wig she was wearing in that photo her team tweeted?

If some of you aren't happy with the ticket prices or the setlist, just stay home. As simple as that. And show some respect.

Yes things could be improved but after the rough few months she's had she decided that the show must go on - with a very similar setlist. She knows what she can handle at the moment and her priority is on her health. We should all be happy about that. She's got her priorities straight!

I think a lot of us did not expect those two nights to be the exact setlist that they would be using but rather a combination of ideas for the Asian tour and the Vegas show. We were expecting more regional-appealing songs, such as Be the Man and AWTBI, to be added later since she did say that they were going to tailor the song choices to the Asian audience.

If Celine is doing a show for sake doing a show, or out of obligation, and she’s burnt out then yeah she needs a break.

You have your opinion and I have mine.

 

It’s clear Celine is exhausted and not in a creative state of mind, to retire for a bit would be good for her head, her voice and her art. She needs to want to be there and be creative again. So YES if she’s not capable of bringing the artistry and creativity then maybe she needs to miss us, miss singing, miss being onstage, this isn’t selfish of me, it’s true. I would never want Celine to stop but it’s clear as day she needs a MAJOR break, her passion and creativity is slacking and just because I’m a big fan doesn’t mean I won’t state that, it’s clear and I think many people here also see it, they just want to be greedy and are okay with any type of performance and will take the pony show Of PR, LCMM RDMH, ETC....

 

This woman needs a break. It shows more than ever.

Empathy is shown. That’s why I think she needs a break. She probably wanted a break to but out of obligation she keeps going. This woman is been through a lot in the last 5 years and she really hasn’t had proper time off, only a tiny amount to have ear surgery, grieve, and take care of Renè. Maybe she needs to miss what she does. I don’t know why you are making that seeem like a bad thing. That first tour after Rene’s passing was an AMAZING setlist. I’m not blaming Celine, I think she’s burnt out.

I think the lack of originality in the setlist is mainly due to her vocal/ear condition not allowing her to fully rehearse. It also didn't help our expectations that we saw an exact version (minus IDAN) of this show during the end of last Vegas run. Honestly, she really needs to take a break once she's done with this Vegas residency to really rest and recharge. Just in this last year, she's had that back problem, the throat condition in January, and the ear surgery and her vocals haven't been stellar since the last tour. And I still believe that her strongest vocals in the recent years were the 2015 comeback and the 2016 tour. The break would probably also help her have a fresher outlook on what songs she would like to perform (please please please drop the Prince medley, it's embarrassing that it's part of this setlist).

 

I agree I think a break from her Vegas show would be good for her. Either that or reducing the shows by like half of what she does now, or even less. It'd make the shows in Vegas more special, and it'd give her time to rest her voice a lot more and maybe even do some tv appearances here and there, maybe get a new manager to help her out.

 

I personally like the Prince medley, but I do agree with all others here that it's a good time to give it a rest and do either some different covers or replace Prince with more of her own songs. From LMBTL album maybe or if Walls Could Talk/If You Asked me to.

 

A rest from Vegas is much more preferable and understandable than just plane retirement as some have said recently. I don't want Celine to stop singing just yet , and I don't think she wants to either. She's got lots of years left.

Well Im Watching the videos now and .. Well nothing really new right? I loved the dress for FIY, much better! But i was hoping for a new song, different from vegas. It seems to me thar she traveled with these last 2 shows... Idk i was expecting something different

People keep on using the same recycled excuse about "no time" to change a setlist and a show....do people not see everything coincides together? The time would be found easily by taking some sort of break. Nonstop singing for the last 3 years given everything that has happened is insane. The woman has been incredibly durable with her performance schedule. Nonstop touring since the 80s with 3 breaks and that is it. It is incredible. Time is found by minimizing shows. Gaining the time to regroup, become inspired again.

 

Also, lets not forget the 2016 tour was a completely brand new show in every way but last 5 songs. That was put together in significantly much less time than the 2018 tour and a far more trying hardship if i were to imagine.

 

Furthermore, OVERALL change has happened. A few days ago i posted analysis where in these 3 years celine has sang roughly 80 songs...that is better than any other period. I dont want to knock the whole tour setlist because honestly the only thing wrong with it is the uptempo medleys and at 17 (an uptempo song from lmbtl like somebody loves somebody would have been a better selection). The rest is fairly fine, though overall a little pale to last couple years. I somewhat enjoyed a different encore besides mhwgo at the shows.

 

I also think we tend to notice that as celine performs longer certain things that might ought to be temporary stick around more permanently..more of these shorter stints even 2013 have been newer more revised setlists. Even the 2017 french setlist was revised from both the prior french tours. This one did tend to cut and paste a bit more. I do think had we not of had the teaser shows we would be more delighted the reason made a return after an early cut, unison. Fiy, even though playback...and i would once again be freaking out about full length tlym.

 

The biggest thing is that people these days expect more for a show. Since 2011 celine has been doing "stripped down, intimate, orchestra shows", not about dancers and visuals...in this time ticket prices have went up but that wow factor has not been there since she walked thru the audience or did a duet with herself...just some thoughts...

So are we all in agreement that around half of the show was playback!? At least with her French shows you can be guaranteed she’ll sing live!

 

No its not that high... counting prince medley and acoustic medley as just 2 songs (instead of 5 songs, though all are live) that is 19 songs.

 

7 songs feature some playback. Tlym, bylm, tpol, abm, mhwgo, fiy, iacbtmn have some playback. Even amongst these songs abm is mostly live. Mhwgo has 2/3 live, disappointed she isn't singing the ending this tour. Tpol features some live singing now. Fiy was always lipped in the past so even a solo performance there is no guarantee it would have been live. Same with tlym.

 

12/19 is already more than half...the 7 lipped have been standard forever...im glad she didn't dig out the reason playback tape or add in idan as one...or create one for the high parts in think twice...hell at least she is singing ashes live at all instead of ignoring it or lipping it!! Purple rain while dreadful because of how long its been drug around is full of high notes.

 

Yes that is not as much live singing as 2016 or 2017 tour, but it is certainly on par or better than any 90s tour after unison.

I can't wait to see her show in Indonesia, I'm curious if i will still complain on the same things I'm complaining here. But I think i will take a breaak from this forum and other social media relate to Celine before the concert to keep the excitement. There's 4 concerts to go before Indonesia. I agree.

 

As I can i just think she needs to take her time if for nothing else for her sanity and hopefully that'll bring us freshness when she were to come back. If we think about it, she hasn't had a proper beak since 2011. The time she did have off she was a caretaker to Rene or recovering from surgery, or healing a bad back. I hope she finishes this tour and Vegas and takes the time she needs.
