The René Angélil legacy

The emptiness in her face in my opinion is WAY worse then "basket case". It's far more worrisome. It's like she's trying so hard to shield herself from people seeing how bad she's hurting. Believe me the tears and sobbing are healthier.

They stayed so strong. But I'm sure behind closed doors there's more we don't/won't see. My heart breaks for this family as they do it all over again for Daniel.

I can't stop thinking that I watched the wedding ceremony 21 years ago, and today I watched the funeral. It's all much it's crazy for me to think about and register.

And didn't anyone notice the look on Celine's face all day, it was empty, nothing but emptiness it's really tough to see :(

I agree. I think she was just sad... But I saw something else that I can't put my finger on. The fact that she didn't cry much is beyond me. She was truly strength in person. I think she is finally starting to realize it. I hope the graveside service went well and that she's hopeful for the future.

Exactly. I'm sure she broke down last night. and maybe tonight too. But it's amazing how well she can hold her composure. I sure know I couldn't!

I have a feeling that her children are the key to the composure. She doesn't want to upset them. She is so strong! But, I am sure that it is quite different when she is by herself or with other adults that she really knows. I hope she releases all of her emotions then...

OMG I can't believe I see this Baronets video for the first time.

René had a BEAUTIFUL voice!

I hope at least one of Céline's kids becomes a singer!

I would imagine that Celine remained low key out of respect for her husband and not to draw attention to make herself the spectacle. She was a class act the whole time. We can't assume how she's feeling or whether or not she's broken down several times. What we do know is that she was preparing for this and whether or not she reacted the way she thought she would (how many of us do?), we'll never know. Edited by Alex_Incognito

I agree. I think she is a class act and handled herself very well. I know she isn't feeling good. I admire everything she is.

I expected her to be low key through everything but I thought she would lose it more when kissing the casket. I'm glad she didn't I just hope she lets it all out that's all. Maybe she did at the burial since that was close family only.

I couldn't watch the service. I was able to check here for updates occasionally and see a few clips. Thank you to those posting and sharing.

Everything I read, all the photos, and the clips, were all beautiful. The entire service was wonderful. I so hope they all can realize how perfect this was and be proud they were able to represent Rene so well.

I admire all of Rene's children (from greeting so many people last night to Patrick and RC speaking today) and family and their strength.

I hope it made everyone from Quebec proud, and I appreciate we could be welcomed by them for this moment.

It was emotional. It was a gamble. It was grand. It was centered on family. The music was so well chosen. Everything was so precise and perfectly taken care of. It was reflective and smart. It even had humor (with RC's speech). It had faith. It had love. In other words, it reflected Rene.

May we continue to keep their family in our thoughts and prayers.

This is gonna sound bad... But did anyone else not recognize her as she got out of the car?! With her veil I didn't recognize her until she grabbed the hands of the twins. That's when it hit me...

This picture gives me hope. to me she was holding the hands of her children and looking into the future. It was the most optimistic I had seen her the whole day.

94 year old actress Betty White never remarried after her husband died. When someone asked her why Betty replied "I had the love of my life, If you've had the best, who needs the rest?". I hope and pray Celine finds love and happiness again whether that is one year or 10 years from now. Her heart deserves to love and be loved.

I wasn't able to watch it live as I was at work, but I did follow Twitterverse and was glad to see very few 'this is over the top' and 'why are taxpayers paying for this'- type comments. It was mostly lots of love for Celine and family, which I was so relieved by.

I've been trying to bring myself to watch it now that I'm home, but can't quite do it. She looks so devastated and empty; I kinda wish she would let herself have a good cry.

On a lighter note though, I absolutely love that Celine & Rene's American-born-and-raised son speaks with a Quebecois accent!

I was initially disappointed when I read that he was speaking in English, but I think that may have been part of the point Rene was hoping to make here... that they might be living anywhere else in the world, but that they're Quebecois through and through.

And I think it's wonderfully telling that Rene felt RC was ready to do this. I think it was very much a 'I have faith in you' and 'now you've got to be the one taking care of your mum' move on Rene's part.

So RC, respect. I have only seen clips, but seems he conducted himself beautifully under the circumstances.

And my favourite Tweet of the day -

(For the non-Canadians, that's a reference to our current Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. He first came to public attention when he delivered the eulogy at the state funeral of his father, former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Granted, he was in his 20s then, and just became PM a few months ago. Justin's wife was one of the attendees today.

Anyway, that Tweet made me smile.

I know they were looking the casket, but the 4 of them holding hands made me a feel a little better. Still sad, but a little optimistic for me.

I can see Celine saying something along those lines. Rene was her soulmate. I'm a big believer in God only creating 1 person for you in the world. 2 people made for eachother.

Entertainment Tonight (ET) in the US just had a segment about the funeral. They said there were 13 cameras inside and out. Celine spent over 7 hours greeting family, friends, & the public at the viewing yesterday. They also said there would be a tribute on Feb 3rd in Las Vegas. They showed Celine and the kids coming in and out of the church and some moments from the funeral including a clip of RC and a few interviews. They did not mention any celebrity attendees.

If what JP said is anything to go by. Celine got to the church at 9am though I think they only began greeting people at around 1pm(this is when live stream began I think) and it seemed to me from what I understood that she stayed till the end which would have been 11pm. So she greeted people for about 10-11 hours and was there for around 14 hours

I'm going a tad bit off topic but you wouldn't by any chance have recorded the wedding? I've never seen it (like many here) and would love to!

I don't I'm sorry. We used to have it taped to VHS. But now it's nowhere to be found 20 years later.

Dang! it's ok. I hope you either find it one day or someone here who does have it comes forward and find a way to share it. I can't believe there is no recording anywhere of it!

Just got home after being at the funeral. Very sad but beautiful ceremony. Seeing Celine's pain up

close was absolutely heartbreaking. I pray that God gives her the strength to go on.

You were at the funeral? Wow. I hope it wasn't too bad.
