"Encore Un Soir" album - Official Topic

I still think there will be a special edition with dvd (live tour 2017) and therefore a 5th single unless they do something like USF and release it alone and use a live song as first single (but this means she has to sing a not-yet single this summer).

Or... we won't have anything like for 2016.

I still can't get over how terrible this photo shoot was. She looks so awkward in that pose for the "single cover".

I agree. And it has nothing to do with the song. Just like the full photo shoot has nothing to do with the album.

What is the point of releasing single after single with no promotion, no music video and no radio support?

Especially when the single is a song that was already performed in France twice with 0 impact i-tunes.

Probably for the publicity. People may not buy it but people will still see it etc. Even if it helps sell 100 more albums and 50 more concert tickets it has still helped her. And all without any extra work from celine and Co.

Not saying it should be like this though btw 👍

But how do we feel that we have a new single? No video, no radio play, no physical release, song not used in tv spots, so what's the point? Just for the sake of calling the song a single from the album? I don't get it Edited by ryba

Its a little f.u to fans from Sony and TeamCeline not to release a music video...

We may have been used to being spoiled...

But she's one of the best selling female of all time, THE best selling french artist of all time for sure....

So yeah, i take it as a little F.U....

Just a little, you know? Lol

I'm more than happy to welcome another new single from this album. We've been complaining for many years how frustrating is that they always release 3 singles and then they sistematically stop all promotion since ages ago, and here we have the fourth single taken from this album (fifth if we count Je nous veux in Canada).

How long it's been since we didn't have an album with 4/5 singles taken off? I'm surprised nobody has remarked the excepcional rarity of this aspect :)

Yes, it's beyond annoying that we're missing also 4/5 videoclips accompanying each single, but I guess we can't win on everything with Céline :innocent: :)

I have to disagree a bit: what's the point of releasing 4/5 singles if by "releasing them" they mean just send them to radio? No video, no TV performances, not even a quick video/press release of Céline talking about the song...

The cover is nice, by the way. They finally stopped using the B&W filter that turns every single picture of her into a drama.

I know we're all starving for videoclips and video performances, you know I defend 200% that Céline should perform at least once most of the songs she records on each new album... but I came to terms that it is either this or nothing with her :ermm: If this is all what they can do for her music, I'd rather have 5 singles released and sent to radios, with 0 promotion, than just 2 or 3.

Also, sending new singles to radios means also they're promoting the album still. Even if it's the least effort they can do :shy:

Look, nowadays when anyone sells 1M copies of their album it's considered successful by a record label. So over 1M for a French album is most likely considered a miracle (no pun intented). Then why would the label want to invest any more money to sell, more or less, an extra 50,000 copies (or even 100,000)?

Yes a videoclip would be nice but in terms of return on their investment, Sony has already figured it out...

That's a way to see it. But this is how I see it: If Sony invested money in a music video for each single and more radio airplay and Céline's team also did something on their part, it would obviously make the album sales grow even more.

Exactly Carlos, investing money in making some videos can only do more good to an album that has already proved to be successful and worth of that investment

How ironic we're talking about her French album with more singles released but the one with not a single videoclip nor TV performances (except a couple for Encore un soir and one for Les yeux au ciel).

Doing more TV performances and videoclips could only do GOOD. Not having a single video performance of L'étoile or Je nous veux to illustrate this music is almost embarrassing at this point for an artist like Céline Dion

I agree, Instead of 1 million they could sell 2 millions, I just dont understand why they chose, for example, that Sans Attendre would have 3 videos and for this, much better album, zero. Even if they are cheap, they still attracts new fans, viewers. Take a look at Mariah's "I dont", what a cheap video and shes already gained 17 millions views, which I'm pretty sure helped to repay it already.

Yeah, even a snippet performance like they did with "Attendre" and "Si je n'ai rien de toi" would work magic as a graphic testimony of the music. Even a video snippet of the so called Encore un soir videoclip in the streets of Paris

Well I don't know what's worse, if having 1 minute videoclip of EUS or half a performance of Attendre like they did for that TV special...

Seriously, who's hired to take these stupid decisions?

I liked the black and white clips they used in the EUS press kit during A Vous... even if they just mixed that up with some other visuals and maybe overlayed the lyrics on top. Edited by agentwigs

29.11.2013 Paris Bercy: Sans attendre... the wait is over !

Even with 4 videoclips, I don't think the album would sell 2M copies.

I'm sure they analysed the costs of the videoclips from Sans attendre versus the sales...

With EUS, Sony has reached its sales objectives and that's all they care about.

Hey, I would love at least a video for the first two singles... but you have to think the way a company thinks: $$$$

Do you invest hundreds of thousands of dollars to sell an extra 200,000 albums? If it was your money, would you do it?

Posted (edited)

Who says they have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to do a music video today??? :wtf:  We're in 21st century, you don't need to spend big loads of money to shoot a video, not anymore. In fact, with the mobile phones and the technology we have today, almost anyone can do a pretty decent one. Media students can do wonders with very limited resources today.

There are no excuses here. It just takes a bit of interest, will and eagerness to show what you do, and defend what new music you release. That's what she lacks, that's what her whole team lacks everytime they release a new album since many albums ago

Being a name like Céline Dion, saying that she has no videoclips because it costs lots of money for Sony to release them, it's just a lame excuse, and an embarrassing one lol

If there are no videos done, it's only because neither Sony nor Céline wants them to happen. Period. Not because of money  Otherwise, how come is that they have budget to invest and release lyric videos for each single, and a (very decent) lyric video for a song that dates back to 1984? Which includes an actress and different locations btw? :innocent: :P There are no excuses sorry!

You talked about 5 videos earlier. And that doesn't cost next to nothing as you seem to pretend.

With Céline, there's an entire team involved.

And no, Sony won't use an iPhone to record and edit a Céline videoclip.

I didn't say it's because it costs too much money for Sony. I said it's because the extra cost probably won't translate into a lot more revenue for them.

Javito, don't twist the story as you always love to do to support your point of view.

I'd like to get a few French videos too but obviously Sony makes enough money even without any extra investment.

I didn't twist anything, I clearly said that not having a single video from this album is pretty embarrassing for a sucessful album and for a name in the industry like Céline Dion. And please remark that I did not even specified that it had to be in the form of a music videoclip per se, I clearly stated (and for this I intentionally said "video performances", not "video clips"), that any video performance in whatever form (that could be a video clip or a performance on TV) would be greatly received and useful. At this point, even a video performance in a TV show to support each single would have been welcomed. And that's even easier to do than shooting a videoclip. But it's none of that with Céline.

I'm not demanding 4 or 5 videoclips on a lot. Any kind of graphic material would be more than welcomed, like the TV performance of Les yeux au ciel. But from having 4-5 videos for each single to not having any at all, there's a long difference :) . And it has nothing to do with money (at least when it comes to shooting a video today).

If Sony Music and Celine’s team have any doubts about the real impact of a music vídeo they just need to look at this:

Céline Dion - Encore un soir (Lyric video) VEVO - 7 236 206 views;

Céline Dion - Parler à mon père (music video) VEVO - 44 366 003 views.

:hmm:

That's for anyone who is still doubting about the importance and impact of music videos today still... thanks :)

And we can go back to Loved Me Back To Life and its nonexistent videoclip and so on. The song would have surely made some more noise if it had had a videoclip when the song was released (and no, that live performance in Quebec is not a videoclip lol).

This is just one more reason for Céline to change not only her management, but also go to another record label who treats her music a bit better. It's so shameful what they're doing with her albums and the poor promotion they have. And saying that it's just because Sony is satisfied with the sales without doing any more, that's not an excuse sorry (on the contrary, that speaks volumes of how lazy they can do as a record label with a big name such as Celine). They're supposed to do their job, whether the album sells more or less. But if it's a good seller, and we're talking of a French album which has surpassed 1 million copies, if we're talking about a success that has happened already for two consecutive French albums (2012 and 2016), the more they're expected to do! It's just logical. Apparently...

All they can do is to include a calendar on a "re-release" 2 months later, though    :giggle:

I never said a video doesn't have an impact. Of course it does. But does it translate into a LOT MORE album sales?

I don't remember what Sans attendre has sold so far... but EUS has sold 1.1M without any videos.

That's not so bad. It could sell more with a video or two but not necessarily a lot more... (and I think that's how Sony is looking at it).
