Critiaslux Posted August 27, 2016 at 10:33 PM Posted August 27, 2016 at 10:33 PM Basically the journalist has a habit of bashing everything Celine Dion and yesterday posted a very bad review of EUS saying that the album came when we least need it, a few months after Rene's passing. She calls the title song a "necrology"!!!! Anyway, the RH go on to say that they Googled the journalist's name and they learned that she was recently slapped with a libel suit by Pierre Perret which he won of course. Then, they (the RH) discovered that this the journalist ended up with a career in journalism not by choice but because she failed at being an author "She wanted to write books, you see, but not having any talent, she has resolved in choosing to be a music critic and (writing?) artists' biographies. How lucky we are". Then, they also discovered that the journalist was for many years Giuseppe Mustacchi's (Georges Moustaki's) lover who she met when she was 19 and he was 33 years her senior and 6 months after his death, she published a book called "Life with Moustaki", going from media outlet to media outlet to promote the book!!! (which obviously is the exact same thing she is accusing Celine of doing lol!). They finish their post by saying "You are right Madame Delassein, "death is good sometimes" !! Honestly, I found their post quite amusing to be honest because I NEVER understood the point of having critics (movie, music, whatever...). Anyway, I hope this helps and if anyone finds any mistakes in the translation please by all means point them out, I wouldn't want to misquote anything lol!! wjd Posted August 27, 2016 at 10:48 PM Posted August 27, 2016 at 10:48 PM Toutes ces choses is just spellbinding. She's surpassed all expectations with this album. 7 Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
sayyed Posted August 27, 2016 at 11:10 PM Posted August 27, 2016 at 11:10 PM Here is my review (finally) It is somewhat lengthy, so please forgive me. If you find any mistakes, you can keep them. Plus qu’ailleur-I was hyped, I was excited, I couldn’t wait any longer for my drug – new music from Céline. I was so relieved when I found out that they for once chose to not have the first single be the first track on an album because it always seems lazy to me. EUS’ tracklist read like a dream to me. Then came Plus Qu’Ailleur. Don’t get me wrong, it is an alright song – but it is neither an opening track nor is it a very good production. Céline sounds like she had a cold or couldn’t bother to sing the song as perfect as she could… As a casual listener, the first song on a record should give me an introduction on what I am about to experience. It should act as an overall first glimpse of a journey I am about to take part in. Plus Qu’Ailleur does neither and leaves me hanging there, thinking that Céline could’ve lost her magic, that she didn’t connect to this song or that it was simply not her day on the recording day. The song sounds unfinished and unrefined and while I appreciate the lyrics I couldn’t help thinking that the 90’s Céline wouldn’t have wanted that as the final product. She would’ve polished her rendition to perfection and made the song her own, especially on such an important track as the opener. Think of Je Crois Toi – it captures the mood of SISDA while having its own identity in Céline’s repertoire.Plus Qu’Ailleur made me anxious to listen to the rest of the album, but I stand corrected – beginning with the next song.2/10 L’etoileWow – this should have been the album opener for sure. It gives me instant butterflies. An uptempo pop-chanson that gives you the impression of a warm spring day and twittering birds. Céline’s voice shines here and the harmony and layered vocals give the production a nice twist. I love love love the background singers go “Hey!” in the chorus. I hope she’ll give this one a live performance or even better: a single release.10/10 Ma failleMa Faille is a very nice midtempo pop song in a modern arrangement. Zaho is a very talented songwriter and I think it fits Céline like a glove. I agree that it coud’ve been recorded together with Tous Les Secrets, both have the same quality to them. Céline sounds slightly harsh on this song and IMO the beginning and the end don’t suit the overall song too well. But these are my only complaints. It would’ve been a great title track, to be honest. But then again the whole imagery of the album does suit the EUS title much better.8/10 Encore Un SoirAs I’ve said at single release: One of Céline’s strongest tracks and first singles in general. The mood, her voice, the emotion, the cleanliness of the production, JJG golden lyrics – everything in this song is masterfully crafted and it is well deserving of all the success it currently achieves. I still have the song on repeat every day. I hope it becomes a staple in Céline’s french performances, unlike JNVOP, ESNRQ or PAMP which are all forgotten…10/10 Je Nous VeuxWow. I got goosebumps the first time the chorus kicked in. Such a lovely celinesque power-ballad, I wouldn’t have thought we’d get one of these after all this time. Céline sounds simply gorgeous here and delivers a vocal performance like only she can. The lyrics are simple yet effective and that’s what makes this such a strong track. I wish the sudden change between 2nd refrain and interlude would’ve been different, but it’s perfect regardless. Strong single contender in my eyes.10/10 Les Yeux Au CielI was so excited when I read on the forum that Céline may have co-written this song. Turns out she didn’t but the final product is phenomenal anyways. From the catchy verses to the infectious bridge to the sing-along chorus – everything is perfect. It is the perfect blend of a summery pop-song and a lyrically heartwarming chanson. My pick for the second single IF they are releasing one before the winter starts.10/10 Si c'était à refaireReminds me of a mix between Si Je Ne Rien De Toi & Je Ne Suis Pas Celle but with such a beautiful message. Céline really shines in this song and her falsetto sends shivers down my spine every time. I love that my lucky #7 is always such a strong song on every one of her albums. This is no exception. This ballad adds a great value to the album and once you have internalized the melody it gets even better. The only thing that bugs me is the slightly cheap sounding instrumental. 8/10 OrdinaireI know a lot of fans love this song since her live performances. I attended one of the Paris concerts and was looking forward to this "new" song because I didn't know the original and haven't looked it up until then. I was a little bit underwhelmed in concert by this song. I remember I thought It made her older than she is. Now with the studio version this impression has gotten slightly better, but still, it won't ever be my favorite song. I have the same problem as with Plus Qu'Ailleur. She sounds very throaty and nasal from the second third of the song and it really does sound like a LBDBM sibling, which isn't a bad thing. But LBDBM is exceptional and Ordinaries comes nowhere even close. Céline does not make this her own, she imitates the way Cabrel sings the song and adds nothing of importance, save for the last two big notes. It may grow on me a little bit over time but for now it is the second weakest song on the album.4/10 Tu saurasBack to form, Tu Sauras is something really fresh for her discography. It is a mid tempo pop-rock song with an edge. The repeated lyric of the refrain is so catchy and powerful, it immediately stucks in your head. I really love the sparse instrumentation in the second refrain before coming back full force. The bridges are also the strongest parts of the song. Tu Sauras should be performed on tour, I can already picture it and the audience screaming... "La ou tu sauras, la ou tu sauras"9/10 Toutes ces chosesThis is a nice and calm piano ballad with a very restrained sounding Céline. Her beautiful falsetto and the subtle production together with the haunting lyrics make this little song special and a nice change of pace for the album. The end is so pleasant sounding. It kind of reminds me of Ma Nouvelle France for some reason.7/10 Le bonheur en faceA very interesting song with a great structure. The plucked guitars at the beginning and Céline's smooth velvet voice blend perfectly before the powerful chorus kicks in. The little change in rhythm is also a nice touch, as are once again Céline self-harmonies, wich are present throughout the song. There is so much to discover in this song that I came to my rating on the 10th-12th listen. Overall one of the strongest tracks and you can hear that this song means much to her.9/10 A la plus haute brancheI never listened to the live version because I didn't want to spoil myself too much and it payed off. I wasn't a fan of this song from the competition. But Céline has a way of making certain songs her own and elevating them to another level. That is the case with ALPHB as it became a staggeringly beautiful ode with such a smooth and crystal clear vocal interpretation that one can only admire. I don't think that there is any similar sounding song in her repertoire. It is also a very good way to end the album, not with a bang, but with tastefully crafted music to listen to in perfect silence. (Why do I keep singing "Do you hear what I hear" at the beginning? HAHA)8/10 A vousWhat? The placement of this song couldn't be more... out of place. But nonetheless, A Vous is a brand new a shiny toy for our idol. I imagine her having so much fun recording this electro-pop song. It is like suddenly being on a carnival with many colors and parties all around, and then a confident and powerful Céline struts down the alley with her backup dancers performing nonchalantly to this simple but very effective bop. Thumbs up. It is amazing and it was an instant favorite. I can understand why it is a bonus track though, it disrupts the pace of the album. But I can appreciate its inclusion.9/10 Ma forceCountry-pop in its best form. A very cool sounding song that could be placed right next to Retiens-Moi. I imagine sitting around a bonfire and swaying in the rhythm to this precious addition to the album. Ma force is calm, powerful, pretty and quirky in all the best ways. And it is a real grower. After the first listen I was like, okay, nice song. Then next thing I know is I give it a 10/10 rating and wish it was included and released on 1F&4T. I am so in love with Céline & Ma Force.10/10 Trois Heures VingtIt was always one of the best songs of her vinyl era and it is now regarded with new meaning. I love its inclusion on the album and can only congratulate the person who decided to leave it untouched and just the way René loved it. I believe it was Céline herself. 10/10 Overall Encore Un Soir is one of Céline's strongest and most coherent albums. It flows very well up until the Bonus tracks come in. There are many highlights. Nice subtle gems and powerful pieces aplenty.Top Songs are: 1. Je Nous Veus - 2. L'Etoile - 3. Ma Force - 4. Encore Un Soir - 5.I find it somewhat irritating that it is sooo obvious that some songs were recorded so far apart. In EUS she sounds like an angel, while in PQA she sounds like my grandma. No offense, but the obvious difference in vocal quality kind of disrupts the album a little bit for me. I kind of miss songs with a fadeout on an Céline album - I think Ma Force would've liked one. I also think that it was a mistake to hire Alix Malka once again. While I really love the cover shot - in most pictures Céline simply looks too photoshopped. She is not 25 anymore and her recent stints in the fashion scene prove that she doesn't have to look like this. She can be herself and show herself like that on her album pictures. I am now listening on repeat and will do so until... well, until I know all of the songs by heart. Just like I always do with Céline. Thank you for still doing what you do. I admire your strength now more than ever. 6 Quote https://soundcloud.com/finnremixes

Brandon Posted August 28, 2016 at 01:04 AM Posted August 28, 2016 at 01:04 AM (edited) A la plus haute branche is the best song on the album. Wish there were more slow, poetic songs, which is normal in her French repertoire.. The songs seem average or standard to me. There is no theme. Some people are saying she "hit it out of the park" with this album. Really? with average lyrics and average songs? I don't get it. A la plus haute branche is one of her best songs ever. flutefreak Posted August 28, 2016 at 01:42 AM Posted August 28, 2016 at 01:42 AM Somehow L'etoile reminds me of the song she sang with her brothers and sisters on the DVD. Lots of comparisons to one heart which I also love but the uptempo here are more like one heart on acid! Lol! She really can sing everything. 4 Quote
Nmj Posted August 28, 2016 at 02:12 AM Posted August 28, 2016 at 02:12 AM I think the reason people including myself have compared this album the the " French One Heart" is because I think everyone can mostly agree that " One Heart" is her most POP album and " EUS" is her most POP francophone album to date and I'm in love with both Now I just need a very POP English album next year lol 5 Quote
MaiconSC Posted August 28, 2016 at 02:22 AM Posted August 28, 2016 at 02:22 AM (edited) Well after listening to the album 20 times I stoped counting The first time I heard was late at night, complete silence in my house, I used earphones, laid down and just listened to the whole thing without interruption... It was so magical! But now that I know the songs better, I can write a fair review. The first thing that comes to my mind: the instrumentals in this album are just AMAZING!!! Even on the uptempo songs, the details are great... Much better than LMBTL in my opinion. I think the efects used on Celine's voice are good too, they are where they're meant to be, there's no abuses. I've seen so many people complaining that the album has no coherence, is too modern... Well, to me it's pretty coherent, all the songs talk about family, life, carreer, feelings, confessions, even gratitude. So, the subject of the album is Celine's life. The fact that it has so many different styles just proves how versatile Celine is. And I think it's evident the songs wouldn't have the same approach, since they're from different composers. Vocally, this album is a mix of her french and english styles of singing; there are great explosive songs, the "diva style" of the english recordings, and there are those songs that just the french Celine is able to provide. I'm very happy by this mixing. These are my reviews for each song: PLUS QU'AILLEURS - unlike the majority, I liked this song as the opener; it has a warmth mood and lovely melody, the chorus is beautiful... I loved its accoustic feeling. L'ÉTOILE - a happy song; the "hey" of the backing vocals in the chorus reminds me of Sia's Cheap Thrills (I don't know why ). I enjoyed the efects at the bridge. MA FAILLE - the introduction and all the instrumental parts gave me chills... so so beautiful. I liked the beat of this one, and Celine has great notes here. ENCORE UN SOIR - I loved this one since the single was lauched. Amazing lyrics, its structure is evolving and exciting... JE NOUS VEUX - great vocals by Celine, a tipical ballad we'd expect from her... The guitar at the first verse reminds me of EN AMOUR LES YEUX AU CIEL - one of the big surprises for me... so fresh, catchy, interesting subject of the song... I can't stop singing this all day. (p.s.: high notes ) SI C'ÉTAIT À REFAIRE - such passionate lyrics; the melody seems to me a blending of DES MILLIERS DE BAISERS, ET S'IL N'EN RESTAIT QU'UNE and JE NE SUIS PAS CELLE... ORDINAIRE - O . M . G . since the tour, I freak out with this song... Scott made and amazing job with the orchestrations, and the fact that the studio version kept it that way made me so thankful. The variations of singing from the live version just made me love this song even more. I don't have words to tell how I felt the first time I hear it on the album; I was trembling and in awe... It's the highlight of the album for me. Celine owned the song, now it's hers, I refuse to remember it's a cover lol Did I mentioned that the instrumentals are AMAZING? JUST EPIC TU SAURAS - fresh and modern, another catchy one. I don't know tough if I hated or loved the one sentence chorus The ending is good to me with the ad-libs. TOUTES CES CHOSES - I found the beginning dramatic, but when it modules it gets to another mood... this melody reminds me a little THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL LE BONHEUR EN FACE - positive lyrics, I enjoyed the harmony of voices, and found it a happy and light song... the melody seems to me a faster version of I BELIEVE IN YOU À LA PLUS HAUTE BRANCHE - so perfect... Clear pure voice, almost like a lullabye... And the instruments, it makes me feel so relaxed and calm. All the details made this song one of my favorites. The lyrics, tough they're sad, I strangely think of it as a relief confession, an aceptation that brigs peace to the soul. Perfect ending for the standard version. À VOUS - here we come to the tribute part of the album. This one is for the fans, and it's a happy uplifting way to say thank you... Makes anyone want to stand up and dance along. I enjoyed a lot the mix of rhytmhs and use of brass section. And yet the lyrics are simple, they're sincere. MA FORCE - I think of this song as a tribute from Celine to herself, for everything she has been through and all she has accomplished... I LOVED this song, it's an interesting style that I think Celine didn't explore too much before. Celine's vocals are strong and she has amazing notes and vocal runs that reminds me of AIN'T GONNA LOOK THE OTHER WAY... Sometimes the melody in the chorus reminds me of MAN IN THE MIRROR TROIS HEURES VIGNT - I remember when I heard this song years ago for the first time, I found it somehow sad... Even though the lyrics aren't sad, now knowing it was a René's favorite and remembering Celine walking at the funneral with this song playing, it will always breaks my heart. It closes the tributes and the album in a beautiful way, honoring René by showing how Celine began and where she is now thanks to him. My favorite songs are ENCORE UN SOIR, LES YEUX AU CIEL, ORDINAIRE, À LA PLUS HAUTE BRANCHE and MA FORCE. Amazing album, one of my favorites now. Edited August 28, 2016 at 02:31 AM by MaiconSC 5 Quote

Thinktwicefan Posted August 28, 2016 at 09:15 AM Posted August 28, 2016 at 09:15 AM Why is it over 40 pounds on Amazon uk? I bought it for about 12 pounds in Hong Kong from Hong Kong Records Yeah I was surprised that Amazon UK were actually stocking the Deluxe version of the album, even to the point that I had already ordered it from Amazon Canada without even checking it. With Sans Attendre, Amazon UK advertised it and then cancelled my order on the Friday, three days before the release date because they couldn't get the stock. Still waiting for mine to arrive 😕free postage all the way 😂 patience is a virtue and all that! 😉😠😢😴😂 Think I must be the only one who hasn't listened to the album yet. Not even the auto - rip. 😯 Edited August 28, 2016 at 09:37 AM by celine4evauk Quote
Bell Posted August 28, 2016 at 09:42 AM Posted August 28, 2016 at 09:42 AM I have the album (deluxe edition) but haven't listened to it yet. First thing to do tomorrow, then I'll post my review on here. Quote 16 YEARS A FORUM MEMBER
A new day... Posted August 28, 2016 at 09:50 AM Posted August 28, 2016 at 09:50 AM Four days listening to the album and most of the songs are growing on me. Mostly "Le bonheur en face", I keep singing it my head! It's a very happy song with a great melody. 1 Quote
Frozen_Phoenix Posted August 28, 2016 at 10:10 AM Posted August 28, 2016 at 10:10 AM (edited) I adore this album. I've always said that I have never liked Sans Attendre very much. There so many forgettable, non-catchy songs on Sans Attendre. This is totally different with this album. I am totally in love with L'Etoile and Ma Faille. They are so different to everything she has done before. The whole album has a very modern vibe. To me it's a perfect mixture of the styles she has "tested" on her last albums. It's a bit of D'Elles, S'il suffisait d'aimer, and 1 fille et 4 types. I believe this album will be liked by fans and by "newcomers" alike. To me this album proves again that I will always prefer Celine's French albums to her English ones. It also proves again to me how horrible her latest English album was (besides the Loved Me Back To Life Single). But Plus qu’ailleur will go down in history as the worst album opener ever...
