"Courage" album - Official Topic

Official interview with Céline about the Courage album and the tour of the same name. I can't believe they're sharing this just now! Get ready to enjoy an amazing half hour with classic Céline

Wow! This should have been released, perhaps as snippets, on her social media in the weeks following the album’s release. It would have helped to prevent the album free falling from the #1 spot. Her team really did very little to keep the album on the charts. They had a lot on their plates with the tour and rescheduling but that’s no excuse.

The album (one of the best English albums in her career) was left behind. And that’s such a shame because they really could have capitalized on it being the first English album after her husband’s passing. An album representing a woman going through tremendous grief and then picking herself up again. Celine taking full ownership of her career, without René. It had potential for marketing gold.

They filmed plenty of interviews and did plenty of photo shoots. They just were not strategic about rolling out these promotional materials & keeping the album alive. They failed at momentum.

With that said, I’m very thankful for this interview. It’s just crazy to me that it exists yet we are just now seeing it! Who knows, we might get that Lying Down music video after all! :D

Celine is still a force in the entertainment world. It’s a shame the album’s promo wasn’t properly handled and they focused all their energy on the (now halted) tour. Now that the tour is on pause, her team could come up with ways to revive the album if they really strategized. It deserves to have another chance, and it’s totally doable.

Off the top of my head:

-Release an official music video for the Sam Smith song (For The Lover That I Lost) with Sam Smith in the video. It could be simply shot and an easy way to get big attention.

-Same idea for the LP song Change My Mind.

-Same idea for one of the Sia songs, preferably Heart Of Glass.

-Celine can video chat performances of these songs from her very own living room on the big talk shows.

-Get one of the Courage songs associated with a movie / TV show

-A bigger idea but I think it could really get a lot of attention & get causal fans & new fans interested in the album: Celine performs the album from start to finish as a stripped down concert. She could say a few things about each song before she sings them. If not the whole album, then a handful of songs. This could be done from her house or they film it at some intimate venue. Candlelit, stripped down, marketed as a “gift” to the fans during such a troubling year. They could make it a big exciting announcement / event. Posted on YouTube / social media. This would allow for many more people to discover & feel connected to the album.

Additionally, her team should bring things out from the vault. Waiting until the world is normal again makes zero sense. People want artists to supply juicy treats NOW. It’s comforting to us during uncertain times. And she’d get a lot more attention now for these releases vs when everything is back to normal & highly competitive.

They should release one of her unreleased Christmas songs & rare concert footage & vintage interviews, etc.

I'm just laughing because who in their right mind releases an album interview a year after the album release?

Exact. Especially when the music video for the first song announced has not yet been released. It's sad!

One of the best albums of Celine Dion's entire career has a hugely disastrous promotion like this. :(

I thought about it yesterday, that things like going on for interview and say "there is a video on his way"

and later on it will never happen, it's highly professional thing to do and can't happen with artists on her level.

She proved time and time again, when she really wants something to happen IT WILL HAPPEN AT ANY COST.

I believe they invested lots of money on the production of LD, unlike the two amatur videos they released.

The one thing that stands out, is that she is not surrounded by people who can think from the point of view

what her fans will like, Rene had it big time.

I agree with what you said. It's because Rene was truly a fan that he could think like us. I get the feeling and maybe I'm totally wrong here but her team doesn't seem to be fans more like friends. That is great for her personally but maybe not the best for her career.

I don’t think Celine wants to do any of those things. She’s just not interested in doing things like that. She likes to record and she likes to sing live for TONS of people. She doesn’t seem to enjoy the singing at home thing. She’ll do it for charity when asked but she only did it once - Winter Song, right? - on her own. The fact she never did it again makes me think she didn’t enjoy the experience.

I get where you're coming from... but I think a lot of artists are having to rethink their approach because of the pandemic. Musicians are doing things entirely different right now in order to promote their music. Lady Gaga, Shania Twain, The (Dixie) Chicks, etc. It doesn't mean they like it or prefer it, but they do it because they want their new music heard.

I think Celine could get into that sort of promote-from-home mindset. The world is very different right now. She would just need to embrace that reality if she so chooses.

The more I think about it, in the end, isn't Celine is the one who takes reponsibility of her career now? I mean, she still sells millions of tickets, she still sells more units than most of working veteran artist today, but looks like the label completely ignore her when it comes to promo. Despite her huge name as one biggest selling female artist, her marketing and promo seems like one of the worst I've seen nowadays. Isn't it weird? Isn't it possible that Celine is the one who no longer has passion about how music industry works? I mean, looks like she's now only doing singing and recording part, without being involved in marketing/promo decision. She still love to sing, but maybe take it as no more than routine job. The passion is no longer there. Like "Ök, I'll sing on stage, I'll sing in studio, record the song, but that's it. I'm doing my part, I don't care about anything else. I've got nothing to prove no more."

A lot of artists are definitely doing those things. But those things aren’t “Celine.” She doesn’t want to do those things. She doesn’t seem to care. And if she doesn’t care now, she’s not going to suddenly change and start doing them. No matter what her fans, or even her managers, say or think. She’s the boss now. If she doesn’t want to do something, it ain’t happening. Celine wants to record and sing for large groups. I get the sense that, if the day came when she couldn’t do those anymore, she’d be ok with that. She’s topped the charts. She’s won the awards. Doing what she’s doing now, she sells out her concerts. Maybe that’s all that really matters to her? And it’s her life, shouldn’t she live it the way she sees fit?

I think for the tour to resume; which it is supposed to, she is going to have to release something again to promote or talk bout the album. It is the "Courage" world tour and a new single, interview, and music video really should come. Even if the album is heavy already with tracks, perhaps a bonus or new song to spark interest again wouldn't be a bad idea. But she needs to do something.

I guarantee you she is recording in french now....and more than likely completely forgot about Courage.

Oh yes, an unplugged concert from the studio with songs from Courage and Unison (30th Ann. tribute) would be amazing❤️.

Yeah, more than likely, since she’s reopening the tour in Europe, she’ll release a new French album and add tracks from that into her French language concerts.

This is DI QUESTION, I have no idea if they ever adresses comments on the Facebook group,

and so far I don't think we got any indication they really pay intencion to it in reality, for example when Fans

would be thrilled to hear the Courage tour and not the hits tour again:) I LOVED the way Imperfection sounds

there are plenty songs that can shine live.

I hope this post is already in her group...

Or that sadly her team just doesn't care about her career... to go and ignore a great work as her last album

can't really get that. She badly needs a good management.

Celine only cares about money and fame. She doesn’t give two sh!ts about the music. Honestly, I don’t know if she ever truly did. It seems she just used music to get her to where she is without actually caring about it.

Yes, at the moment unless it will be proven otherwise (And how I wish to be really surprised though

I've stopped waiting long time ago for something big to happen), she seems to even suffer from what she does

this is quite sad. At least I hope with her next album things will look different.

There are artists that say that singing is like a therapy for them.

There are many verteran artists out there, that still gives the best to the fans

and seems still to enjoy it.

Still havn't heard the "new" interview, planning to see it soon.

No, I think she blindly trusted the wrong people. Look, they had amazing promo footage (her driving the bus, her swimming, with the armor etc. etc.) and they hardly even did anything with it. There was no agressive promotion on social media, even though they had by far more material than they needed. Celine was there, available to shoot and participate in everything, but it was up to her team to us it in the right way. But her team hardly made use of anything. They were offering some crappy super short clips avery few months. How can that be called promo? The Loreal spots could have been combined with some of her new songs too.

What I don't get is why they won't use her social media to promote her. It's so easy and and free. It doesn't take a lot of effort. It takes minimal effort to post things on her social media, and that really could make a lot of difference. It's not like it was several years ago when there was only professional ads and no social media.

They could post old live performances (on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram) when they aren't promoting an album, and they can make ads specifically for social media that doesn't cost a fortune when they are promoting something. They could also easy pay tribute to her old albums on anniversary's with special treats and such, but they do none of that. Maybe they post a picture now and again, but that's it. If they aren't gonna do a whole ad campaign, they could do a lot with social media. If... they wanted to.

Today someone posted a snippet of The Reason recording session again, and all the comments are about how amazing she is. This is what the official channel should do. Give us old clips like that and maybe she would be trending because non-fans appreciate her. If they post amazing stuff, it would get noticed.

Agreed.

Her team needs to up their game tremendously with social media. It’s an easy way to keep her legacy alive & keep her relevant.

With that said, they did a phenomenal job with her rebirth as a fashion icon. The social media moments were epic. But now her team needs to figure out how to navigate her music career / show off her music legacy since this is, you know, CELINE DION.

Rene died 4 years ago. It's a little too late to keep playing that poker chip. We've seen a few knock-out world tours (when she did what she wanted to), this very 'play it safe' tour, and too few albums. Courage being one of her most mediocre to date. Some people are impressed that she says "s***" in it. That to me isn't enough. Actually it's a bit below her. Plus 2 compilations that should have never seen the day probably to eek out some money from their star who isn't putting out any product. Her career is stale at this point

I totally agree.

I know Rene’s been gone a while now, but he was her biggest fan and so he gave us what we wanted.

He understood that she is one of the greatest singers ever.

Her current team doesn’t quite get that or they seem to take her talent for granted. Otherwise, we’d be seeing way more rare footage, rare releases, highlights from her iconic singing career, etc etc

Celine is the boss now & calls the shots. But she is humble. So she needs a team to nudge her sometimes & show her off as the Icon she is. René used to do that.

And this is such an easy fix. Her team just needs to reimagine their approach. Or expand the team to include folks who are passionate about Celine Dion the singer.

Yeah, if she wants to continue with this tour, they should release a "special edition" of 'Courage' with some new tracks (and new versions of some of the songs).

OR... when it will be taking longer (Corona), which is more likely, they should just "cancel" the tour. Release a new English album (she said they had enough material to release another one), start a new tour, which will combine songs from that new album, 'Courage' and her hits.

Which compilations?

And I disagree. Saying the s-word once in one song isn't below her. I think it's a great album, with some really great songs and hitherto unexplored emotions and choices for her.

The tour is pretty mediocre though, but I am very glad she brought back IYAMT.
