Am I the only one connecting dots between Celine, that gold body suit, "Soul", and Wonder Woman 84?

 

That gold bodysuit is SO similar to the one Wonder Woman wears in the new movie. All it's missing are the wings.

 

"Soul" would be a PERFECT song to play during the credits of WW84. I mean...it's just so PERFECT for a superhero movie.

 

Throw some CGI wings on her, make a banging music video with "Soul" and WW84 footage, how can that get any more perfect?

 

Though, I think if nothing has been announced at this point, it's not going to happen. I guess it's just a huge coincidence that Celine's gold bodysuit is so similar in style to Wonder Woman's. Big missed opportunity if you ask me. The gold bodysuit they did make for Celine is so cool, to not make ANY music video with it just seems like a huge waste.

I think the days of releasing songs from Courage (with or without music videos) is over. The album flopped. The tour is only hold until March 2021 (for now) but most likely until March of 2022. There’s no reason for them to release music. Without a tour to sell, they see music as meaningless. I imagine from here on out, when Celine’s albums are released, the only single released will be a lead single and no music video will accompany it. That’s if they even bother releasing new music.

 

I’ll be interested to see what her career becomes after this. Will they try releasing an “America’s Greatest Songbook” album or a “Classic songs” album because those are the things that tend to sell with established legacy artists? Will they keep releasing albums with new pop music? Will they try a duets album like Streisand or Tony Bennett since those tend to sell as well? Will they take longer to release albums or will they stick with their 6 year plan? (I’m not counting French albums here, just talking English albums.) I’m fascinated and look forward to seeing what happens.

Also the only other way to make celine relevant is like how Elton and Barbara did with their album. Each song in the album will have either duet or collaboration with other singer. This will boost spotify audience. If only, Sony is clever

It flopped because 1) It was only number one due to the concert ticket bundle and 2) it barely sold anything after that. People I know don’t even know Celine has an album called Courage, and my closest friends, who have been around while it was playing think it’s over-processed and has made them dislike Celine because they expect a singer of her caliber to not use auto tune. So yeah, I consider the album a flop. I LOVE IT. Still-listen-to-it-every-day love it. But it flopped. Tanked. Fell to the ground. Was completely ignored after the initial press release.

I agree, it is not considered as a flop. No promo and still manage to sell 600k copies. Billboard is already making it harder for no 1 album with tour bundles excluded. Luckily celine manages to clinch the last 1 album when the rules still applied on 2019. Hard to see any veteran artist will score no 1 from now on. Not even country singers

Don’t get the love for the song Heart of Glass myself. Everyone talks about her pronunciation on the album and to me it’s the most evident here. Sounds like she’s saying “Wrist and your hands may bleed” instead of Risk, if that’s even what she is saying and the rest of it is almost incomprehensible at times. I love Sia and her songs but this one is way too repetitive and nothing more than a filler so doesn’t deserve anything more than it’s placing on the deluxe, in my opinion.

Tbh it is a nice refrain but i can't hear what she is saying either;) it was more like, okay you are finally promoting something new, now release that song;)

But my choice would be the hard way or change my mind and boundaries

I don't agree. Charts are supposed to measure popularity. 'Streaming' is the way music is consumed these days and charts should, as it does, reflect that. We can't just ignore it. It would be like if, in the 90s, charts refused to count CDs, recognizing only LPs, or if in the 00s charts didn't counted digital sales, sticking only to physical copies. It wouldn't make any sense.

 

So, albums can actually flop. People who still buy albums are limited right now and they can't hold the album on a 100top chart for more than 2 or 3 weeks (Courage only hold it for 1, BTW). If we consider, also, that the singles from the album fail to cause any impact outside Quebac, we can call Courage a flop, IMO.

 

Now, that's not Celine's fault, I must say. The streams playlists, responsible to bust sells,are unfairly manipulate by the industry and the industry doesn't care for "old" artists. Although, her and team could work a little bit more on that. It's not acceptable that Celine makes less streaming numbers than Mariah, Madonna and even Whitney, who is dead. Specially when she outsell them in pure album sales and concert numbers (well, Madonna not so much in this one, but close enough).

Agreed the album is dead. The lifespan of each album is becoming less and less with each one. Of course at least we used to get promotion and TV performances from Celine but we didn’t even get that with Courage. We did at least get 2 music videos I guess.

 

What they do with the next English album will be very interesting. I do agree we could see a duets or a “classics/covers” album as, sadly, for her English market there doesn’t seem to be any real interest anymoooore.

I think it was mainly due to a very very poor and insufficient marketing strategy, because they have focused all their attention and energy on the world tour.

 

There was very high interest in her new album eversince Rene died, but it was not until late 2019 that they finally released that damn album. It was too long of a wait, and in addition, the promotion was poorly handled and rushed. Look what Aldo did when EUS was released and now compare! It’s all about proper management.

Time and time again they choose to release meaningless materials. How nice it can be if they could show her telling

more about the song they chose for the video footages with this odd gold outfit, that highly unflattering her.

I agree. It's the most evident here her pronunciation issues...and if anything I wish she just sang this in her normal singing voice rather than trying to be a chameleon and sound like Sia.

 

Heart of Glass is somewhat upbeat though...I wonder what other songs would have been appropriate to use as background music to the behind the scenes video. Anyone got any suggestions?

Breathes new life into the Courage album yet again.

Love that they used Heart Of Glass to underscore.

I hope more & more videos like this trickle out.

I wish more momentum could’ve been created for album when it was released... but it’s still great to get it now.

I hope more people continue to discover this wonderful album.

I've got the feeling that they are showing all these clips now (they recently posted an already known behind-the-scenes look at the Courage video) just to keep Celine under the spotlight in a way. Since she's on break now, this is probably Sony's way of keeping her "popular".

 

Though I understand what you mean, it just don't make sense. If they can't keep her popular and keep her under the spotlight in a proper time (around the release date of Courage) with proper promo and marketing, why would they do that now? Let's just face the ugly truth. They just handled the marketing poorly. Even worse looks like they have no strategy.

Perfect Goodbye for example could have been a Lana Del Ray song and would have been refreshing. Change my mind would work too. So many songs that would work well.

Oh come on the album did not flop. For an artist of her legacy achieving a #1 album is a milestone. Yes, it was through ticket bundles but they still had the choice to redeem or not. And she sold a s*** ton of tickets to 'courage' world tour. The album sold well in Canada the UK and France and was her highest charting album in Australia in decades.

 

You can't compare apples with oranges. She will not have a Taylor Swift chart run at this stage in her career. She is a legacy act. Come back here in 25 years and tell me if Taylor Swift is moving what she does now. For her generation Celine and Courage made an impact. You say you work with people who didn't like it. ...I work with folks who were only casual celine fans, BOUGHT courage and loved and proceeded to make a point in telling me. These were people who have not bought a Celine album since Falling Into you. This one case study alone debunks your theory.
