Davey84 Posted January 17, 2012 at 03:14 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 03:14 PM (edited) well with my almost 28 years I still count myself youthful I am in no way selfish, I grant Céline whatever she wants to do, if SHE wants to do it! Not because René says; let's record songs from the prehistoric times! Whatever she'll release, I'll love, but that doesn't mean that I can still find it a big waist of talent to record cover after cover after cover, whilst singing the same songs for 15+ years now while you have recorded over 150 original songs by yourself. Wanting something original is not being selfish, it's being ultimatly possitive to believe that Céline is more than a karaoke singer! Being critial or being selfish are two different things. You make a good point. And I don't know if I'm talking about you specifically or not. I don't know who has been writing the most vitriolic comments over these 50 pages. Some people write on here with an attitude that Celine Dion should be taken behind a barn and whipped for singing covers instead original material. Who cares? Celine doesn't seem to. She doesn't care whether she has a number one single like some people on this forum seem to make it their life's work to get her to do. She just wants to sing songs and do shows so she can support her family. Someone on here said that it's as if she has a 9-5 job. It's EXACTLY like that. She's just singing now to keep working. It's what she does. She DOESN'T care about the music anymore - it is simply a way to make money. And some people on this forum are upset by that. But again, it's her life...not theirs. Let her do what she wants and live the life she wants.

Javito Posted January 17, 2012 at 05:06 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 05:06 PM (edited) It's selfish because you're demanding that she records what YOU want. Not what SHE wants to do. You think, for some reason, that you have a right to make her record what YOU want. That's selfish and egotistical. And if you can't see that, my first thought would be to ask how old you are because youth is often selfish without realizing it. Hello??? The main problem here is that we don't know what Céline wants in terms of music, just because she doesn't talk about music in the recent years! The only info we get recently specifically talking about music is from René or other sources, and it is given little by little We don't have a clue about what SHE wants because SHE NEVER TELLS! Consequently, the image she gives of herself is that of someone who doesn't give a damn about recording new music, and René is the person who talks by her in this aspect. The day we know what the hell is moving her today in music, what are her interests and what she would like to sing, maybe we will have another speech. In 2005 she still had projects in music, she still talked about music, dreams and wishes in her career, she talked of recording a jazz album, a spanish album and more. Today, she suddenly stopped. She looks to have nothing else in the horizon more than a handful of covers to be recorded in the studio (according to René, she hasn't told a word about it YET) and a french album mainly written by Luc Plamondon that hopefully it will save this year for all the fans that won't be able to make it to Las Vegas. well with my almost 28 years I still count myself youthful I am in no way selfish, I grant Céline whatever she wants to do, if SHE wants to do it! SarayDion Posted January 17, 2012 at 05:26 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 05:26 PM If they will discuss the details of the project in february, I can't see how the album can be released in april or the new single soon... In a recently interview with the journalist Norm Clarke, René said, that the new English album would be released in May, and not in April how we expected, we must continue waiting "Céline Dion, la mejor voz que he escuchado en mi vida.INMEJORABLE VOZ,INMEJORABLE CANTANTE, INMEJORABLE CALIDAD HUMANA,esa es Celine". *Adoro a Celine* "Céline Dion, It´s the best voice i`ve heard in my life.UNSURPASSABLE VOICE, UNSURPASSABLE SINGER, UNSURPASSABLE HUMAN QUALITY" this is Céline. *I Love Céline* http://picturestack.com/905/414/m7DSinttuloof2p.png
LVCeline Posted January 17, 2012 at 05:34 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 05:34 PM I don't really think it's selfish to want original music as a fan. I mean, Celine wouldn't be anything at all if it weren't for fans. If people didn't like her music, she would just be another high school dropout. She has to record music that fans will want and like, she simply couldn't sell 200 million albums recording all the favorite songs she grew up listening to or liking. There has to be some compromise. Some covers to pay tribute, and some original music is fine. I don't think we are selfish for wanting original music, but I also think some people here take it way too extreme and think covers are not allowed and shouldn't be done. It's all about balance.
Kyle_Jared Posted January 17, 2012 at 05:38 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 05:38 PM Why the hell May? I thought all along April. Rene himself said April just weeks ago and now this journalist is saying May? Titantic is out is April......wasn't that the whole concept behind the April release......? This is getting insane. Regardless of my frustration I am STARVED for a new Celine album. Famished. And quite welcome the new project, I just can't take the damn wait and pushbacks any longer!
Belle Céline Posted January 17, 2012 at 06:01 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 06:01 PM and I think I read somewhere she's done 52 albums. No she has not done 52 albums. Several of those albums are re-releases, it's just the same albums being released again and again. Or 'hits' albums with old songs on them that aren't even re-recorded. Or 'special' editions with like an extra song or something. They aren't 'original albums'. “There’s nothing I love more than the romance of a night in the theater.”http://i39.tinypic.com/ws0due.png
zuv Posted January 17, 2012 at 06:13 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 06:13 PM (edited) This Post Has Nothing To Do With The Upcoming Album (well a little bit lol), So You May Want To Skip It The fact is that every single member who posted on this thread (and the 2 previous ones) will buy this album no matter how good or how bad it is. Celine and René Win no matter what we think Since its so easy to complain about what we don't like (which i do too at times) I'll just point out few things that brings joy to us, fans, but we often take for granted. Other than the fact that she has the most beautiful and powerful voice on earth, let's be happy over the fact that she loves her fans and public and that she needs it in her life. Unlike Barbra Streisand who admited that she doesnt like to sing to her public/fans because it makes her uncomfortable. Can you imagine Celine thinking and acting this way?! We are Lucky fans compared to BS's Fans! Also, Celine is not a Lazy singer when it comes to vocal training! We all know that, especially if you've been a fan since the 90's. Unlike Barbra, again, who admitted to practically never train her vocal cords because its boring her to death. Good for her if she can skip it, cause she always sounds flawless anyway. But how long can it last without vocal training? Last thing, Celine is not a drug addict and is pretty unlikely to vocally end up like Whitney Houston. Celine respects her voice and understands the enormous and divine gift that she was given. Don't you LOVE that the worst complaint that you guys have about Celine is that she is "covering" too much? I just wanted to put things in perspective for a moment. We are damn lucky fans when you think about it. Peace Edited January 17, 2012 at 06:21 PM by zuv

Celine Fan 77 Posted January 17, 2012 at 07:21 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 07:21 PM It's true, we are all going to be pleased with this upcoming album even though all of us complained about it at first. celine4evauk Posted January 17, 2012 at 07:44 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 07:44 PM Didn't Celine say in 3B&ANS doc that she doesn't want to know about tomorrow?? She lives for today - all she wants to know about is what the plans are for today. She sounded perfectly normal to me in the interview about the albums etc - not the first time she's been a bit vague on what's happening! As for the release date going from April to May - its only a few weeks, perhaps they realised the songs would need a bit longer to produce once she's dones the vocals. Agree with you Stevo - i cannot wait for new songs - english and french - i'll be preordering as usual. Don't care about covers - she's always done them. I've only ever heard one night from the Vegas show so i don't mind about certain songs from the show being recorded for the album. Anything new from Celine is always welcome to me!! Yes i have opinions about what she should/could be doing with albums/shows etc. But i'm not going to slag the new album off before i've even heard it!! CAN'T WAIT!

Shaun Posted January 17, 2012 at 08:43 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 08:43 PM What is crystal clear is that Celine's passion for performing cannot and will not be questioned. Her world tour and commitment to Vegas confirm this. Regardless of all the money and awards she gathers for doing it the fact is she still loves performing concerts for her fans wherever that may be. That much is clear. Her passion for recording though should now be questioned. As should the whole team involved with her. It all feels like such an effort these days! Dragging the singer into the studio to sing! What a dilemma to have! In the past 8 years we've had TWO new albums - Taking Chances and D'elles. In the previous 10 years we had 9 albums! That's not including compiltation or "best of" albums! There was a time when all that mattered was getting good original new songs recorded and getting them released on the next album for the world to hear. That was the career. Now whilst almost all of us accept that they have settled down to have a family and they have priorities that lie elsewhere I think what most of are struggling to grasp is that why, when they are finally dedicating time to commit to recording an album, they are recording cover songs and asking world class music producers to get involved in doing so. Is this what they really believe people are wanting to hear? Is that what they really believe will sell? Is this what Sony her record label are expected to promote around the world? Celine Dion's first album in truly years - cover songs. As much as it pains me to say it really does stink of a complete lack of effort. It's SO much easier to pick "classic standards" than to sift through thousands of original new songs they've been sent. Album will sell either way wont it? Celine was never going to remembered in history for her artistic integrity but the respect she commanded for all she achieved could never be questioned. Perhaps with some of these crazy decisions that respect might not be as great as it once was? smash Posted January 17, 2012 at 10:31 PM Posted January 17, 2012 at 10:31 PM I think they are just to damn lazy to work a bit harder for something new. Good grief, some of us need to go help them.

"Celine's career sucks now" "She only cares about kids" "They never listen to fans" "Covers, covers, covers" Sorry, just got frustrated! I want a list of original albums! ferjaacu Posted January 18, 2012 at 06:56 AM Posted January 18, 2012 at 06:56 AM (edited) Actually, I think that to some producers it's a real challenge to take an old classic and put their own touches in it, and it's actually easier to work on a new track, so I don't think they get dissapointed because the song they're producing is a cover... And I don't think "the general public" would buy more records of hers if she sings only new songs in it and not covers Honestly, for me, most of the people that listen to her or go to see her concerts/shows doesn't care too much about the songs, and only about THE VOICE. Yes, maybe they have a fav song that she sings there and that's why they go, but it's mostly because of her talent on singing. If it wasn't like that, noone will be going to see "Celine", since it's full of covers. I actually think just like LVCeline It's all about the balance... I don't care if most of the songs are covers, as long as they are really good songs like NMQTP, OA, Lullaby, etc. We'll get new songs too. And not because someone sings covers, that turns them into a karaoke singer... There's no waste of talent in that. Once again, they are all COVERS in a way, because she doesn't write the songs herself... They have been previously sung by either the writer or the demo singer. So, what's the difference??? Oh yeah, you don't know they're covers and you haven't heard the songs before... Well, for many of us it's and was the same with every cover she's recorded. Like, ABM, TPOL, AL, etc. If they wouldn't have said that NMQTP or Lullaby were covers, or if any of the people who knew the song from it's original version have said so, I bet many of us and many of the people complaining about them wouldn't have known that they weren't new songs. And, (just as a reply to all of those saying that wanting only new songs is not being selfish) because many of you don't want to give us the pleasure of listening them in Celine's voice, you're being selfish It all depends on the point of view However, I'm not asking Celine to sing only covers, so that's not being selfish. You get the difference?? We all want new songs, but having covers on the new album doesn't mean we're not gonna get any. And not because she's singing covers she's gonna loose all of the respect people in the music business and general public already have for her. That might happen if Celine tries to record songs just because that's what's hot right now (if you get what I mean). Like you Shaun said, her passion for performing and singing isn't lost, but we can't say her passion for recording isn't there anymore. There're many things involved in a recording a new album, not just picking the songs and record them. Of course, it'd be better if they just talk about the releasing date when they're sure about it and not giving us this incertitude we have now, but we don't really know how negotiations with producers, writers, etc are going and maybe that's the reason why they change the releasing date and maybe that's also the reason why they don't say much about the album yet. So, we can have suggestions, thoughts, ideas, etc., but there's no way we can assure we're right about anything. All we should be doing now, is to share the news and wait for the album to be out. Then, we'll have plenty of time like to complain, criticize, and also praise it. Celine has never talked about music like many of the songwriters or other singers have. She's never said she wanted to give the world a new sound or anything like that. She's always said that all she wanted was to have an international singing career, to touch people's hearts with music and to entertain audiences all over the world. She's doing that, she's done that and she'll keep doing it (at least, for maybe 4 more years) So, now she says that what she wants more than anything is to raise her family and stay in Vegas cause that gives her and her family stability and a place where to welcome fans all over the world to come and visit her. So, maybe this really isn't what's on Celine's mind, but it is what she's said, so we can't say we don't know what Celine wants. And of course, we can wish things would be different, but we need to accept that the decisions are not up to us, cause it is her life after all. If may not be what we think it's the best for her career, but just like we do with our lives, she's allowed to have mistakes too. But we will only learn about if she was wrong or not in the future, not now. BTW, sorry I went this long I was just trying to speak my mind about all of the last posts Edited January 18, 2012 at 06:57 AM by ferjaacu http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3216/5786913948_369265dbeb_m.jpg FERLO
eyso Posted January 18, 2012 at 07:24 AM Posted January 18, 2012 at 07:24 AM this conversation is troubling to me for several reasons. allow me to explain: 1. celine dion grew up in a recording studio. she's allowed to feel somewhat "over it," so to speak. that said, whenever she does record, she does so brilliantly. her passion for recording is ever-present and eternal, regardless of her overall level of engagement with any one recording project. there's a certain magic to her hands-off approach, because it heightens the spontaneous creativity of her actual recordings. 2. it isn't, nor has it ever been, about the songwriting; it's about the voice (!) celine has made a living out of turning awful songs into pop gold through the sheer brilliance of her performances. we have no basis to anticipate what the album will be like until we actually hear how she sounds, because that, after all, is what this is all about. 3. speaking of which, have we all forgotten that, no matter what she ends up singing, this album is going to be a vocal tour de force? ANDHC, OH, and TC may have had fresh + contemporary songs, but they didn't necessarily showcase celine's voice to its fullest extent, largely because it hasn't been "all there" during the larger part of the past decade. now, after finally getting the vocal rest she needed (and probably has needed since 2000), she has rediscovered the bombastic, passionate, complex voice she somehow lost. even if this album is all covers, it will be a return to form vocally, and that may very well end up moving more units than new songs ever could. 4. we already know that celine has been working with a number of different people. she's recorded something (not sure what) with goran kay, that dude who produced unison, and babyface. and then there was that rumor about nadine coyle, whoever she is. it's not like this is celine trying to do a streisand-esque "the covers album" shtick, this is going to be interesting and new in its own way. one thing we know for certain is that the main thrust behind "celine" was a "back to basics" mentality -- laying off the theatrics and focusing on the music in a more organic way -- and that, above all else, is an incredibly good sign for this new album. i get the feeling celine is a lot less open to suggestion from the record execs and is for some reason really passionate about the idea of returning to her roots. who knows, this may end up being a unique "meta-retrospective," wherein celine revisits old songs she loves, returns to the writers and producers she's always wanted to work with again, and ultimately succeeds in assembling an album that is appealing to a wide spectrum of consumers. this sort of broad appeal -- at once classic and contemporary, forward-thinking and nostalgic -- is what made albums like FIY (essentially a covers album in its own right) so compelling. i think she has the opportunity here to finally produce something worthy of following up FIY, and i think we ought to be a lot more supportive of her and her team, because there's no way she doesn't know about what goes on here. let's try to come up with IDEAS, not waste our time pontificating on celine's imminent demise. celine always surprises us, and she IS an artist, no matter what public convention says to the contrary. whatever she releases, i can guarantee it will be FAR BETTER than this conversation can even hope to give justice to. - jon

- jon Finally, someone with some sense.
