New English Album - "Water and a Flame" (Pre-Release Thread Part 1)

This is the most vague, convoluted project I can recall in recent memory or any english album that she's ever tackled. First all the reports are saying April.......now this one says "hoped for May" Well she's back for shows in June-August.........what in the hell is going on.........

More Celine for me to listen to, so I'm happy! :-D

Kind of sad though how her English albums don't sell much anymore. :down:

A station I listen to used to play a Celine song every day. Now I haven't heard one in ages except for her Christmas songs! :down:

It's all about the younger generation of pop singers with dance music that is really hot now. You have to stand out somehow after being around so long. Celine is never forgotten! At least her French music still does well. Still think she is juggling too much at once now with the twins, but she has to keep her music alive and not go too long without new music. As long as she is still actively performing people will be happy. Celine fans never give up! ^_^

Exactly, Belle Celine! Like many have said before what is she doing in Vegas then? I'm sorry but that line that her priorities have changed is starting to draw pension and work on my last nerve. There are millions of working moms that also have 3 (and more) children. Celine is even better off than most of them because she doesn't have to work from 8 to 5. Plus, she has help and all the money in the world. All we ask is for her to put a bit more into her albums. The fact of the matter is, they don't care about the albums because there is no money in it anymore. Vegas fills their pockets, so that is why she stays there. It has nothing to do with the fact that it gives her family stability. If she wanted stability, she could have just stopped singing.

I absolutely agree with every word you wrote.

As Rene himself mentioned in one of the last interviews, Vegas means lots of money and he wanted to secure financial stability for Celine and the kids in the future. Given his age, it is perfectly normal for him as the manager and husband of such an icon as Celine Dion. However, recording one or two songs here and there (not to mention the whole QUALITY album) would be a nice surprise for the fans, right? It would be a sign that they still care for the fans and their suggestions, requests and wishes. Is it possible that Rene is unaware of them? It's really hard to believe.

P.S. Some of you mentioned that if the album turned out to be a commercial flop, it would make them realize their mistakes and forced Rene to get Celine "back on tracks". I personally think that it's exactly the opposite, it would happen in the 90's, when she was on the way to the top, but not now, it would be a perfect excuse for them to stop trying completely and just stick to her Vegas concerts.

So by now we know that the album will include studio versions of At Seventeen, Open Arms and Ne Me Quitte Pas, tribute to some legendary female singers and a few new songs. If you see it this way, it's going to be a complete album, I mean, it's gonna be the famous "evening gown" album that Celine talked about back in 2009 (or 2010, I'm quite not sure). OK, it's not going to be R&B, it's going to be Celine's famous power ballads. Let's see what happens, we might be surprised. :yes:

I have nothing against postponing provided that she records new songs not coverS! I believe this will be a flop. It seems to me that they don't really care about this album - there is no excitement from them. ANDHC - joy of RC, OH - wow LV, show much energy, 1F4T - French album after 5 years, Miracle - babies babies she was engaged in this project a lot, D'elles - great concept, great authors, TC - edgy, coming out of vegas album. But now? you can't really say. They just record the album because they have to and it's sad

I am glad I had the chance to see and hear her once in my life. I don't know if she ever will tour again...

I was thinking what if you were the band of Celine and you have to play the same songs every year over and over again.

I would be so bored playing the same songs every night.. Don't they deserve some fresh new songs too?

Only thing I hope is that the Vegas show will change during those years. Maybe the Celine concept as it is now, will be thrown overboard

in a few years and she will still be in Vegas , but change the concept of the show to something more about Celine instead of the current setlist that is full of covers. If she really wants to stay in Vegas, for her I think some changes are welcome too.

Can't see her doing this show, with its current setlist, for more than 3 years.

Well that's the initial lenght! :laugh: If they got to keep the show like it is today until 2014 they will have won. But of course they will change some songs here and there, like they did with A New Day

To be honest (apart from the frustration of not knowing when it's coming out) I'm excited. I think an old-school, slow, 'Golden-era' album would be a lovely addition to her discography. Bring it on Celine x

It really seems you are right, when selling of albums was more bigger, they realized many albums and not only during 90-ties, also during her AND era: 2002, 2003 (2 albums),2004(2 albums),2005 and now they are totaly concetrated on Vegas and are not so much interesting in recording and also maybe TC was dissapointed for them, René and Sony expected selling of TC from 4 to 6 milions and finally it was "only" 3,7-4 milions (but question is if selecting of singles was good, if they selected diffrent songs for promo selling maybe could be better.)

They are aiming for the old group of fans who spend their pensions on trips to Vegas. Artistic integrity unfortunately is something that is of no importance to them. And regarding promo, don't even bother. Her promos are just for her Vegas shows, movies that she sang in the 90s and her babies.

So many of the greatest and best singers and producers out there have publicly expressed wanting to duet with her, yet we get duets with dead people or people who are close to croaking.

I will not have my hopes high for this album only to see them all crushed. Let me start with no hopes and then i might, just might, be pleasantly surprised. Almost 5 years between her last album and this new one, and we still get dates pushed around. Even Rene keeps giving conflicting reports about the material and number of songs that were recorded. I mean something doesn't add up here.

Yes she doesn't owe us anything, but also yes she does. We are the ones who buy all her stuff (i know by our own free will), but again, if not for fans like us, she wouldn't be where she is. I wish Celine could read this what you just read! You are completely right! We are her fans and we buy her records and we are ignored. For instance the taking chances worldtour. We heard that they had so many songs to rehearse and the final setlist was more oldies and some new material. They always say - the songs the fans like to hear. Yeah maybe some part of those fans that indeed only wants to hear that signature songs and is not interested in the rest of her songs and can be pleased by her singing covers.

(Won't start about the L-word thing - for me main reason why I would not pay so much money for a planeticket and concertticket to Vegas)

Rene clearly does not know what is hot or not and he only wants to recycle the old songs from her and even older songs from other artists.

I am sure there are so many pearls in terms of songs to be discovered that maybe can top her signature songs and maybe even will be her new signature songs. But as long those songs are not discovered just because of lazyness and lack of interest in singing new material, it won't happen.

These covers could easily be produced by Humberto Gatica, cos they bring nothing new anyway!

she doesn't feel like doing it that's for sure. She hopes for May release but she doesn't even say what this album will be about because I believe they haven't figured it out yet.

Exactly!! From the age of 12 until the age of 32 she did NOTHING but record, record, record, sing, sing, sing, tour, tour, tour. Then, she became a Mother. Maybe you all are just too young to understand what that does to someone and how it changes a person. Celine spent 20 years rising to the top of the industry, giving it her all. From everything that I read and hear from her, she's TIRED OF IT!!! She just wants to raise a family and spend who-knows-how-many-years- she has left with Rene. Vegas gives her the chance to have a job, continue to make money, and sing. I do believe she still enjoys to sing. But it's not the be-all-end-all-thrill-of-all-time for her anymore. And good for her. If you make your work your life, you will end up a very unhappy person.

It is INCREDIBLY selfish of anyone to complain about what she chooses to do to make herself and her family happy. She wasn't put on this Earth to make YOU happy and to do what YOU want her to do. Just because you buy her CD's and DVD's doesn't give you the right to dictate her life. Who do you think you are? She is here to live the life that SHE wants to have. All of your complaining about she doesn't sing the right music or sing duets with the right people or do the right television shows for promotion....you should be ashamed of yourselves. :nono: Yes, I said it. Ashamed. If you don't think you're going to like this new CD then don't buy it. It's as simple as that. I, for one, look forward to it...no matter what style, no matter what the songs, no matter how many covers. It's YOUR life, Celine. You go out there and do whatever you it is you feel like doing. AMEN! And.. I'm happy with everything she release! Of course new songs would be incredible but most of the covers she did, I didn't know them before so for me most of the songs are new (but i hope not for jazz, that's not my favorite genre (for me it's boring) but okay I think if Celing should sing jazz songs I would still like it)

It's selfish because you're demanding that she records what YOU want. Not what SHE wants to do. You think, for some reason, that you have a right to make her record what YOU want. That's selfish and egotistical. And if you can't see that, my first thought would be to ask how old you are because youth is often selfish without realizing it.
