Again: Celine has never been invited to London! And why would she be, given that the British music scene is thriving with great artists who can carry this opening ceremony?

 

So, there is no missed opportunity because she was never asked to come to London!!!

 

All that there is is a rather clumsy attempt by Rene to say that even if she were invited, she wouldn't go (which I highly doubt...), perhaps a bit like someone who isn't getting something and then pretends that he or she never wanted to have it in the first place.

 

Is this a bit odd? Yes, in my opinion. But it doesn't mean that they missed this chance or that Rene has gone crazy...

Well, it's a nonsence really Rene & Celine didn't agree to sing at the Olympics. Like REALLY nonsence. As for the new album, I'm not really convinced it's coming out in April but of course I hope for the best. Still I don't give that much whether it will be a success or not. Celine has already proved everything, she's really the best and we should be thankful that she does at least SoMETHING for her fans 'cuz she might simply be at home feeding her babes and watching Sex & the City...

Didn't think London 2012 would be part of her plans. Never thought she'd be asked to perform. I always worry when she comes to the UK. She has her fans, but also gets a lot of slagging off. Perhaps if it was a HUGE song like TPOTD (never really liked A Paris), and in a country that adored her, and they'd asked her, maybe the answer would have been yes. Easy to say no when you haven't been asked! She likes to set records - remember singing at Oscars twice in one night etc?? She'd have been tempted. I'd have loved to have seen her here though.

 

I'm bloody praying for it NOT to be Adele though!! Anyone but. Starting to get on my nerves now.

 

Really looking forward to the new french album - Plamondon 2!! DCP is my fave french album after D'Eux.

The ceremony will be held at the Staples Center in LA. And I'm sure she's going to promote the album a lot in the U.S. The Today Show, GMA, CBS' Early Show and Ellen are basically all givens. Question is, what else?

Some people here claim that Celine needs more public or media attention. Ask her to divorce Rene and start dating young guys, or going to awards in an egg, she would then be everywhere, in every magzine, newspaper and tv..

 

In terms of success, she is the best selling artist of the 90s and the second best selling female of the 00s. If you talk of concerts and tours, only Madonna and U2 can be rivals. She lacks radio support, that's true, but that's not her fault, that's Sony's work (money), but radio support or number 1 singles don't always help to sell records or concerts (Britney for instance)

 

I would say that Shania Twain has lost her passion but Celine? Let's just hope the coming albums are good and Sony promote then right

 

Yes Yes..I agree. Many people here think she still has a chance to have an album with many #1 singles or top 10 hits in the US - those days are over and it's not their focus anymore (Celine, her management, & Sony). She was never a big singles artist anyway, the focus was always selling albums and the tours. Right now she's in Vegas, making tons of money, and it works for them. She has 2 babies and she wants the stability and it fits perfectly FOR THEM just as it did the first time around. I think once some people realize that they are making lucrative decisions that are best FOR THEM then they will relax and not expect so much from singles & promotion. Every album we here the same thing from the same people, those people NEED to check the history of the last several releases from Celine - it's not about top 10 singles. Just enjoy the music, whether it's newly written songs or so called "covers". It's new to us so just relax and enjoy it. There are many former artists that were huge in their time that don't even record NOR do live shows, so be glad we are getting both.

 

You also made a VERY good point on #1 singles and selling albums. Katy Perry had FIVE #1 singles from her last album - how much did she sell...hmmmmm 2-3 million albums tops. When MJ did that the album sold over 10 million - the times have changed. How many top 10 singles are big now and forgotten in 6 months??

Celine wouldn't have been asked to take part in London 2012 - the UK press simply wouldn't have allowed it. They would've argued strongly against an international artist taking centre stage when there is so much British talent to be showcased. Add to that the international artist would've been Celine then the UK media would've went into meltdown!

 

What all of the interviews of the past 1-2 years are finally confirming though is that it really is all about Vegas now and will be probably forever. Yeah they'll throw out an occasional album - not to make money but to please the record label - and we'll get the odd TV appearance to update us on her family life but in terms of an international music career we finally seem to have confirmation that they are finished with it. All the priorities lie in Vegas to secure the future of their family. I struggle to believe they haven't already made enough money to live off for the next 1000 years but we need to accept that if Vegas is where they want to be Vegas is where they will be.

 

For an artist, and a manager, who worked tirelessly to build up such a legacy in the music word it's just such a shame to see it apparently being forgotten about when potenially her most successful and creative years could be ahead of her.

 

Hey, maybe the 2 albums we're getting rush released within 6 months of each other this year (why!?) will become instant classics and they'll reconsider their position but sadly recent history has shown us not to build up our expectations as, sadly, we'll only be let down.

Yes many fans have big expectacions for Céline return in 2011/2012, we thought with less shows in Vegas it could be diffrent than during AND era, we wait new fresh songs/hits on new albums ("The best is yet to come") but now it seems it won´t be very difftent, but let ´s wait until albums will be out and then we will see what happen, what king of songs and promo it will be, but it would be better not to have big expectations.

Yup, I think she's in Vegas for good. But who knows, maybe they'll surprise us and retire in 5 years. Fact is, Rene is getting older and so is Celine (although Celine is still a young woman).

 

I say fine, finish out your 5 years this go round with Vegas as it's successful, but I realy hope Vegas isnt her swan song. I don't want Celine (in 10 years time) to be the Donnie Marie on the strip relegated to vegas shows because they're suckered into by Caesars or $$$$$.

 

Like all greats, she should go out on top. And Rene being a businessman should start planning that financially so she and the family don't have to die in the dessert. I think her last show ever--or "EVENT" as they like to make it should be in Montreal anyway. He said he has a 5-10 plan or looks at her career in those stages, but who knows financially where this market will be in five years.

 

Right now she has a fantastic show and it's selling like hotcakes. Ride that. But go out on top. 10 years from now she should not still be doing Vegas. But that's yet to be seen.

I get tired of hearing the retirement talk. Nobody would talk about it if she didn't do the hiatus in 2000. Now it's all Celine fans can talk about. She's had bigger gaps in the last 5 years than her gap in 2000-2002. Vegas is about money and staying in one place. Nothing else. We have to face the fact that she no longer cares to record or promote.

If the Vegas Show was different every night it's another thing.. but because it is every night the same, every night the same speech, every night the same songs. So why oh why not saying yes to this! ??

I'm sure Celine will probably give her fans a taste of the new album at the last Vegas show...she did so with Taking Chances at the end of AND. The only drawback I see to her staying is Vegas is not getting the fresh new versions of songs each night on world tour or the excitement.

 

But...Vegas forever? I highly doubt that. Small world tours are viable. I mean like a three to four month tour. Of course, getting tickets to something like that would be a you know what.

I agree.. but what i just was trying to say.. is that she takes more effort in her shows then in her popularity or things like this, the grammy's. Of course when Celine is asked for the Grammy's she should know months before so the dates she can't perform can be scheduled. Of course I can't expect Celine and her management blowing of a concertnight for this. I only wanted to say that it is all about Vegas and family lately. And that is fine for her but not for us. Maybe we are seflish than, but I hope she is not going to stay there for the rest of her life! She has so much to offer, and it off course her choice what she does with this talent. I agree the show looks spectacular and expensive but I rather have her working with the same passion on her albums and meanwhile being a fulltime mum instead of doing the same show each night over and over again.

Refreshment is good and staying in Vegas might sound like the best idea lately. But is it really needed? That's my question.

But again, it is her choice and she feels happy with it and it offers stability for her and her family and esspecially her children. And that is good she takes care of that.

First, for those who didn't get it- Celine was NOT invited to sing at the London Olympics. René was just answering a question... IF SHE WAS invited. But she WAS NOT!!

 

And as for Vegas, well it was almost clear from the start the Celine would sing in Vegas until her twins are 5 years old and go to school. Celine is probably more interested in acting than in promoting music. She always wanted to be in a movie, so maybe this will be her new passion... Everyone needs a change at some point!

Well guys... Here's the news. Nothing new, really. Key points:

 

-Céline hopes to release the album in May

-2 songs have been recorded so far

-Babyface produced "At Seventeen"

-René said she will begin recording again Jan. 31 in Florida, will likely put finishing touches on album at Palms Recording studios

-French album at the end of the year

-Rene wouldn't say what the other song she's recorded was

 

Other news:

 

It's shaping up as an eventful year for the duo. A multiyear extension is rumored to be in the works with Caesars Palace and Angelil has a movie coming out.

 

He plays the godfather of a crime syndicate in the upcoming French movie "Omerta," which is being released in July.

 

"It's kind of like 'The Sopranos,' " he said. "It was a big TV series on French TV and now they are making a movie ."

 

During a backstage interview with Celine on Saturday, I brought up the subject of his crime boss role.

 

She couldn't resist teasing him.

 

She said the French show producers told him, " 'Don't change anything. We don't want you to act. Just be yourself.' So what does that mean?"
