I agree with no Open Arms as the lead single, however I do want it on the album. I dont care for Mariah's version personally, there is something about Celines version that just gets me..

I love Celine's version :yes:

, but I agree that she will be compared with Mariah and don't think they should release it as a single... At least, not as the first one. But like many of you have said, we never know what can happen !!! :shrug:

Don't get me wrong guys but releasing a cover as the first single from Celine's new album would be a joke (a really bad one). After all the delays and waiting we've been through it'd be a total misunderstanding. I agree that Open Arms is a nice song, I like it myself, but I think it'd get nowhere in the charts (especially if it was supported with that Eyes-On-Me-type of videoclip). Every time I hear Celine during an interview saying 'I have nothing to prove anymore ...' I'm like :blink: :blink: :blink: .

We know that many radio stations are already unwilling to play songs by Celine and with that kind of material they'd have a perfect excuse to ignore her even more. At this point in Celine's career, she really needs original compositions that would show off her talent and vocal abilities (either ballad or an uptempo song, both types of songs can be classy but modern at the same time).

I'm dreaming of another massive radio hit, just like ANDHC or IA. It's possible for her to have one these days, but only with the right single choices and promotion.

Let's try to be positive about this album, i'm sure we'll get more confirmed information soon. :thumbsup2:

yes at seventeen is on the album along with open Arms. and i can not wait for bpth cds to come out. and hoping for a dvd of the show as well.

The moment I heard open arms I was like... hm I wonder, Mariah used to have a hitrecord with it in the 90s. It's not wise for Celine to release it so soon. Soon? Yes, because Mariah is not like Tina Turner, on the top of her career and having a legacy of so many hitrecords. If they are gonna release this song people will immediately recognise the song as Mariah's and they will immediately compare. For example I don't like the long notes Celine is singing.. to be honest I prefer Mariah's 90s version to Celine's. No matter how great the orchestra is, this is a Mariah ballad.

It would be even worse if Celine would sing I will always love you - which would be interesting to hear Celine singing it. But it is just a not done covering that song now. Same with Mariah. The single will be ignored on radiostations I am sure.

I wonder if we can easily come up with these questions, with these thoughts, what would her productionteam think? Do they even think commercially? except maybe wanting to attract more visitors to the Vegas Show?

I don't really know why do the radiostations play some songs more than others... :hmm:

But I think it depends on marketing and commercial "agreedments" :shrug:

Maybe record companies pay to radio stations to play their songs more than the others... Or maybe it depends on the ratings this songs gave to them... -_-

Anyway, I know nothing about this so I'll leave this to the experts we have here on the forum :thumbsup2:

But I don't think she needs new songs to show off her abilities :no:

I'm not saying I don't want new songs, or that all I want is her to sing and record covers. She can do it singing those covers too, if you know what I mean... :flowers:

But even thou one of my fav songs of hers is a cover (TPOL) and I love the covers she's doing in Vegas, it'd be nice to have new songs for other artists to cover from her in the future (I don't know if I explained it well, but I guess you'll get what I'm saying

)

Ya Sony totally needs to refrain from releasing "Open Arms" as a single. First it will be compared to Journeys......then Mariah covered over 10 years ago. If she wants to perform it on some shows, fine, but not a single. not a video.

I am so excited for the album- covers or not. To be honest, I think Taking Chances showed just how much of a battle Celine has these days to get 'noticed'. That was a 'new' album- yes, there were covers, but the album was supposed to show Celine off in new direction. She worked her #ss off like never before with promoting the Taking Chances single, I'm not surprised the follow up single had none.

I think the thing is people have just accepted her for her past albums- that's no bad thing- she can keep releasing new stuff, but generally the public aren't interested. How many people could name Taking Chances as a Celine song or if you asked them when her last album was? I think her team are clued up on this and this new album (fingers crossed released in April) will probably be a 'classically old style' album. I think it will fit in with her other albums perfectly- she can't go releasing some amazing RnB album when she has this sleepy, golden Vegas show- it has to reflect the show somehow.

I predict My Heart Will Go On and Beauty and the Beast will both be on there...and probably a clip from the show to promote both album and show. It's Celine's biggest song. Titanic is going to be everywhere- and hate it as she does, Rene will be cracking the whip. I can hear the tin whistle...and Celine sighing to herself...

I had a dream last night that the album was put back till early May but the 1st single was released the same week as Titanic 3D was released, and she attended a U.S & UK premiere of the movie and a few tv shows for promo, then went to Paris for a few days with the family. lol

Well I haven't followed this discussion for a long time, and I only read the posts on this page now. So I don't really know exactly what's going on with this (possible?) album or single releases, but I have to say that after hearing Open Arms, I wouldn't really like for it to be the first single of the upcoming album either.. Though to me it has nothing to do with Mariah Carey, since this is the first time I ever even heard the song! And also cause I listened to both of the versions, and I actually preferred Céline's rendition of it.. well cause I don't really like Mariah's music in the first place and well, cause it's Céline.

BUT, I think the song itself sounds a bit... "passé", if you could say. I mean, it sounds a bit too much "90's", for it to be a "new release" in 2012.. I don't know, I guess I just prefer different kinds of ballads these days. Or then it's just this particular song that I don't care much about. It sounded nice when she performed it as a live performance, and cause there was a special reason for it too then, but it's not a song I would be listening to every day.. :shrug:

So as for a first single of a new album, I'd prefer something more refreshing and uptempo than this.

I too have a feeling MHWGO will be on the album Stevo, perhaps as the last track as a "bonus".

I am getting more and more exited about what song she's gonna do from Dinah.

I really hope she wont do What A Difference A Day Makes. It is Dinah's trademark song and it is already in perfection. Many has covered it, and the song always lives, never really rests, so it would be akward if Céline did it. Even though the same could be said about Mad About The Boy, I think Céline could pull that one off quite good. Mix Dinah with Céline from It's A Man's Man's Man's World together with the style of Melody Gardot and it will be swell! :thumbsup2:

That is to me not a reason for OA to be dissed. As I said before I have a feeling there's a strong revival for the 90ies ballads coming soon. As you said it's 2012 now, that makes 90ies song somewhat retro. I think this album will bring the 90ies style of songs wrapped up in contemporary quality sound. I think indeed it will be the closest thing to a LTAL sequal. And with the MHWGO celebration it's very convinient. And hate to say it but Céline has stayed unmodern so long she soons rides the wave of the trend coming back (they come in circles you know) and makes this album "modern".

At this point in Celine's extraordinary music career with many numerous awards and accolades in recognition of her worldwide success for best albums and (or) singles from all over the world, our queen of everything with "World Best Selling Female Recording Artist" sticker doesn't really need to prove her talent. Just my two cents...

A new interview has just been publicated. The interview was mainly about the 3D re-release of Beauty and the Beast, but the interviewer also asked Celine about her future projects. (I'm really thrilled because the interview was done by a Spanish agency called "EFE". Here is the English translation:

Los Angeles (USA), January 11. - The Disney classic "Beauty and the Beast" returns to USA cinemas in 3D this Friday, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of its success at the Academy Awards ceremony, something that had a lot to do with the voice of a then-unknown performer, Celine Dion, nowadays one of the biggest music stars.

"Beauty and the Beast", which was re-released in Spain in 2011, was the first animated film to get an Oscar nomination in the "Best Film" category and it won two awards for its soundtrackand and for the song that has the same tittle as the movie, which Dion performed with the american Peabo Bryson.

Not a big fan of participating in interviews, the 43-year-old canadian, mother of three boys, shared with EFE a quick look at her career, its relationship with cinema and her future musical projects.

EFE: What did this movie and song (Beauty and the Beast) mean to your career?

Celine: When I started my English career, the first album that I released was Unison, which featured Where Does My Heart Beat Now, my first song in English that was played on the radio, but people didn't really know who was singing it. I wasn't known at all in the US. Beauty and the Beast really gave me a name, I guess we can say that it started my whole career.

EFE: Did you ever imagine how successful it was going to be?

Celine: No, of course not. Anyone who does something in their lives... we can feel that we have a great song, a great album and feel very sure about what we are doing, but you never know how far it will take you, what will happen. I don't really expect so much from the things that I do, because I don't want to feel disappointed, but I always have great hopes that everything's gonna work and finally Beauty and the Beast became a classic. I didn't know that I was going to have this type of life and I feel very honored for it.

EFE: Do you sing this song to your kids?

Celine: I don't sing Beauty and the Beast to them, I could say yes, but I don't. A few days ago, my twins were introduced to the main characters from the movie. This film is having a second life now, my son René-Charles met it first, and now it's turn for my twins. It's a "déjà-vu".

EFE: Your career has a very close relationship with cinema and 2012 is not only the year of the re-release of Beauty and the Beast, but also of Titanic. Earlier in the interview you said that Beauty and the Beast gave you a name, but what did My Heart Will Go On do for you?

Celine: To be part of a classic once in your life is a dream come true, to be part of two is something incredible, almost impossible, and I feel very thankful and fortunate. I imagine I'll be able to sing this songs for the rest of my life, which is a great honor.

EFE: What makes that song special?

Celine: I think it was an incredible movie, both movies were spectacular. We are talking about love stories and when you present love stories to people, they never get tired of it. It's something that people always hold to. There's lots of instability, lots of things that happen in life, problems related to money, stress but there's always time for love stories. It's not archaic to talk about love, like if it was something old-fashioned, I think it will always work and I think that's why the themes from Beauty and the Beast and Titanic are two big songs today. People will never get tired of listening to them because they talk about love.

EFE: You returned with a residency-show in Las Vegas, after performing there between 2003 and 2007 with A New Day.... The concerts started again in 2011 for 3 years, but there've been rumors that you're thinking of extending your contract in Sim City, for how long?

Celine: I don't really know. I think Caesar's Palace offers us an incredible opportunity to present the best show possible to the fans and putting the best of our talent every night. I love going on tour, but at the same time it's great to have stability and being onstage at the Colosseum, it's a wonderful place to perform and I hope to spend more time there. I don't know if they want me to stay for a longer time, but I certainly hope so.

EFE: It's been almost five years since you released you latest studio album, are you preparing something new?

Celine: Yes, I'm working on a new French album and also on a new English album. I'm quite not sure when they'll be out, but I have already started to record. They'll probably be ready for next summer.

EFE: And will there be another world tour to promote the albums?

Celine: No. I'll be recording and performing at the Colosseum in Las Vegas. I might do some sporadic things for some television shows but no, I'm definitely not going on a world tour.

EFE: What do you think about new technologies? 3D in cinema, the new way to consume music, do you buy albums in the Internet?

Celine: No. My sons will do that, but I don't. I'm not paying so much attention to the new things that are coming out, I think it's great that technology changes and evolves, but I am not watching television at home, I don't go to the cinema... I have to raise three children and I perform between 4 and 5 nights a week, so I do not seat in the sofa to see what's new, I don't have the time.

I guess they still are not 100% sure about the release date, so that's what she said the albums will be ready by summer. (at least the English one)
