New English Album - "Water and a Flame" (Pre-Release Thread Part 1)

Who made Mr Paganini famous?? Just wondering if that may be part of the album. I wouldn't mind a proper recording of that one. Its the song ive listened to most - almost as much as open Arms, Live and Let Die, and IACBTMN/TPOL - absolutely LOVE the joining of those two!

It seems this album will have a bit of everything, old standard covers, Vegas songs and some new material. It doesn't bother me that she will do these tribute songs. As far as I'm concerned it's still Celine and her amazing voice. I believe she will make the songs her own.

 

To be honest I'm more than happy. Think of someone like Tony Bennett, he released a duets album in 2006 and since then has released an Xmas album and a 2nd duets album. I don't think we have much cause to complain.

AND THANK GOD CELINE COVERS SONGS BECAUSE WE WOULD NOT HAVE "ALL BY MYSELF" WHICH BROUGHT HER TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL AND MADE HER THE QUEEN OF VOCALS UNDOUBTEDLY.

I wasnt talking to you directly even if i used a few of your words and some other members' words too. I was giving a general point of view and trying to defend that the idea of covers isnt as bad as some people (quite a lot) can think.

Edit 2: Javito, how do you know that Humberto was bored with the covers in the show?

 

Some member told that after meeting him in the premiere night (or the second show). I think it was Jimena from the spanish section. She told he said that the show was good but that to his personal taste it lacked more of her own songs, it was slow in some parts and it has many covers

Humberto Gaticaaa talked for a Chilean newspaper. He'll travel to Las Vegas on 1st Febraury for meet with Celine in the recording studio. The songs possible that would come , would be from the singers sucha as : Etta James, Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday.

I truly respect everyone's opinion, but I would really like it to be a fresh, completely new and uplifting album, without jazz or too many covers. A few classics, ok, but mainly new material.

 

It would be good if she reconnected with swedish hit songwriters (like M. Martin, in combination with Lundin, to make a good hit)...

Rene or the production team behind the new Vegas show? they only focus on the central theme of the show but obviously don't look any further in terms of.. hey this cd should be Celine re-entree in music business , let's make this album a charttopper! Let's record all fresh new material , show sides of Celine we did not know she had, let audiences wow again and make her fans proud !

I think that if they insist on recording some covers (the less the better), they should choose either the covers from her Vegas show or these "new" covers we found out about today. I personally prefer that second option, since I virtually know nothing about the three singers mentioned in that article so their songs covered by Celine would be kinda like a new material to me and to many fans (especially for those who live outside the US and never had a chance to hear them).

 

If you ask me, these "new" covers might end up being a nice addition to the whole album, just like "At last" and "Nature boy" were to ANDHC, but only if these are less known by the public and limited to the minimum (2-3-4 and not more).

 

By the way, recording NMQP is a must (just my humble opinion).

On one hand, I would LOOOOOOOOOVE an album with those jazz types of songs. Celine is in PERFECT voice for them.

 

On the other hand,I'd love an excellent pop-ballad album. Perhaps we can have it all.

It would be amazing to hear Celine's rendition to Dinah Washington's "What a Diff'rence a Day Makes".......another amazing classic could be "Is You Or Is You Ain't My Baby?" or "Cry Me a River" (Be sure to check the "Truth & Soul Remix" for a more contemporary take)

Be realistic, if the album is going to include tribute to old singers, I think it's very difficult that we'll get that kind of uptempo songs.

I'm LOVING this style of an album and personally cannot wait! If it is a Michael Buble type style, she can totally pull it off.....classy is what I see this album as. Cannot wait to hear some of the tributes to those great women. I really hope Mr. Paganini is on!

I respect everyone's opinions, I do, but let's not forget that some of Celine's biggest hits are covers. Look at The Power of Love or I Drove all Night or All by Myself. Maybe she does need new material, but all of her albums in English have included at least three covers. I'm guessing we're getting an album similar to Let's Talk about Love. Almost all her fans love that album, and that is PACKED with covers, along with a few new recordings.

I'd love to hear Celine singing different kinds of songs and even covers... but she really needs numbers of original songs on this album, since she hasn't released an album for a few years
