New English Album - "Water and a Flame" (Pre-Release Thread Part 1)

I think that we deserve some fresh stuff after more than 4 years of waiting...However, I Drove All Night, The Power of Love, All By Myself etc are covers and yet very beautiful and successful songs..Well, maybe At Seventeen and Open Arms won't bring her back on the top of the charts, but there are so many songs from Celine's repertoire that we absolutely adore and they didn't make it to the charts...!So, i guess that we should be little motre patient and wait until the album is released before we jump to conclusions!

Anybody knows if that meeting between Celine and James Horner took place?..B

If meetings are being held at the beginning of February, is April not a bit soon to have the album out? I can see it being delayed..

If I understand article correctly, meeting is being next week in Las Vegas and recording will be at the beginning of February on Florida, so i think april date is still very possible.

I had a dream about the album here:

a double album:

Cd 1: 10 new songs (Dan Hill, Goran Kay, Chris Neil & Martin Sutton, Nadine Coyle, Don Mescall, Dana Parish and Andrew Hollander, Kenneth "Baby Face" Edmonds)

Cd 1: 10 covers of songs of the 50 - 60 (Etta James, Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday as well as Open Arms, at 17 and If You Go Away)

Oh it would be absolutly great if this dream could be true.

Well, i don't believe that At Seventeen and Open Arms will bring Celine back on the top of charts.. By the way, does anybody know if that meeting between Celine and James Horner took place?.. In my opinion, it would help her performance on the charts if the release date of the new album is the same with the release date of the Titanic. But since Rene said that they have recorded only 4 or 5 tracks and the rest of them will be recorded when they're back in Florida(1 February) and Celine has shows in Las Vegas in March, is there any possibility that the album will be ready within the first week of April?

I agree. I mean Rene must realize that Titanic's re-release is a perfect opportunity to bring Celine's career back into the limelight. I'm not so sure that he'd pass up the chance for promoting her new music. Sony wouldn't get a better chance to do it (plus earn some $) in a long long time. I still believe that all is going according to the plan and the album will be released in April.

Is it possible that some material will be recorded in January between the shows when she's still in Vegas and we don't know about it? I wouldn't be surprised. Celine needs to record these songs really quickly. :yes:

I think that if they insist on recording some covers (the less the better), they should choose either the covers from her Vegas show or these "new" covers we found out about today. I personally prefer that second option, since I virtually know nothing about the three singers mentioned in that article so their songs covered by Celine would be kinda like a new material to me and to many fans (especially for those who live outside the US and never had a chance to hear them).

If you ask me, these "new" covers might end up being a nice addition to the whole album, just like "At last" and "Nature boy" were to ANDHC, but only if these are less known by the public and limited to the minimum (2-3-4 and not more).

By the way, recording NMQP is a must (just my humble opinion).

I respect everyone's opinions, I do, but let's not forget that some of Celine's biggest hits are covers. Look at The Power of Love or I Drove all Night or All by Myself. Maybe she does need new material, but all of her albums in English have included at least three covers. I'm guessing we're getting an album similar to Let's Talk about Love. Almost all her fans love that album, and that is PACKED with covers, along with a few new recordings.

Totally agree with both of you; its as if some people think she would cover "I Will Always Love You" from Whitney Houston...lol

"I Hate You Then I Love You" is a cover and i bet no one from this forum had heard the orginal song before (except maybe some italians)

On one hand, I would LOOOOOOOOOVE an album with those jazz types of songs. Celine is in PERFECT voice for them.

On the other hand,I'd love an excellent pop-ballad album. Perhaps we can have it all.

I'd love a mix of both genre! Jazz and ballads sound great. (TLBSEPToi-type of jazz songs) and Its classy just like the show.

With few uptempo songs for futur world tour concerts.

this new upcoming ablum was promised a trillion years ago (same thing for the french album)... so i wont be surprised if they move the release date/month again.

I hope not. It was selling well just because of the Titanic song. It had a few good songs but as a whole, I see it as a boring album. She has done much better job in other recordings.

Well thats truly just an opinion, because the entire album is synched into my ipod except that titanic song

LOVE this album! and certainly did not buy it for just MHWGO

TLBSEPToi-type of jazz songs

I love this song very much but I always thought it was more blues than jazz. Am I wrong?

To reposition her in the rankings? That ain't gonna happen if they record an album with a bunch of gazillion year old songs. Did the release of ''Alone'' teach them nothing? It was a big flop. Nobody takes the covers seriously anymore. She needs fresh original songs.

No no no, I loved 'Alone', I didn't even know it was a cover. I don't mind if she record covers. I also love 'Open arms', but I hope she record it in the studio, not live. But I also agree with most of you, new songs will be nice.

Yes she is going into studio after first block of shows in Vegas, but she already recorded some songs (4,5) so it´s still possible that album can be out in april.

The first 3 are the easiest part for her since she can already dream them..while she is singing them every show..

I could honestly see 'Open Arms' being the first single from this album. If not the first, the second. Similar to TC. (Which I'm perfectly OK with.)

But on the other hand.... now a days, its all about album sales, merchandise, concert/show tickets, singles and there position is the least of Celine/Sony's worries.... harsh but true in this day in age.

Humberto Gatica just said that he'll travel to Las Vegas next week to talk with Celine about the songs that are scheduled to be recorded in Florida on February 1st. He also said that the album will include tribute to some of the biggest female singers of international music, such as Etta James, Dinah Washington and Billie Holliday.

So looks like this time it won't be a radio-friendly album, according to this information.

Very interesting. Wonder what songs they'll choose. Etta has done some really interesting songs such as Only Women Bleed and I Just Wanna Make Love To You. The incredible Dinah has done pretty much everything. What A Difference A Day Makes, is nice, but perhaps a little too safe and booring. Since I Fell For You, Cry Me A River and More Than You Know are very nice. So are Blow Top Blues, Drinking Again and Me And My Gin but I highly doubt we'll ever hear these from Céline. Nobody Knows The Way I Feel This Morning could do very well in a Tous Les Blues Sont Écrits Pour Toi-rendition. But how great wouldn't it be if the first track of the album was a steaming attitude-pumped There'll Be Some Changes Made! Can you imagine her starting of the album with these lines:

"Now there's a change in the wheater

and there's a change in the sea

so from now on there'll be a change in me..."

Make it soulful, make it uptempo. It could be really cool!

Or perhaps they'll go with the All The Way-esque Come Rain Or Come Shine.

The main problem here shouldn't be WHAT songs she'll choose but rather HOW she chooses to do them. Old standards can be great with new modern experimental sound (take a look at Sarah Mclachlan's version of Unchained Melody - seems like a totally new song and is INCREDIBLE).

Yes it could very well be a Buble-ish album. But I really hope they'll go for the more experimental frech and cocky sound he used to have before (Fever, Feeling Good) rather than his current safe and rather booring interpretions.

Jazz standards can be really frech and cool with a new experimental sound. But I guess neither new or experimental seems very appealing to the Céline team.

I've said it before that the chances are quite high we'll have it promote the album.

But I surely hope not. Céline's live version is so similar to the original version it's embarrasing.

I completely agree. A jazz-influenced album right now would be a wonderful direction for her English career. The general public doesn't want to hear Celine try to sound trendy.

Celine should do a timeless album to add to her cannon.
