Her take on jazz and standards would be wonderful. A lot of people think she should wait to do an album like this when she's older,but I disagree. She needs to do it now while her voice is in tip top shape. This type of music is timeless, and Celine deserves to have some timeless material. "Treat Her Like A Lady" doesn't count.

I completely agree. A jazz-influenced album right now would be a wonderful direction for her English career. The general public doesn't want to hear Celine try to sound trendy.

 

Celine should do a timeless album to add to her cannon.

That's great news, Darren. I didn't think the TC UK promotion was bad. Especially on TV (except for the bloody fact that she was lipping to 15 year old tracks!). Hopefully they go above and beyond this time! And let's PRAY to the Gods for some physical singles.

It's good that people love the 'song' cos it is a very nice song. Celine's version I'm not sure of. I prefer Journey's as well Mariah's but Celine lacks the emotional connection with the song.

 

I agree with Alex in thinking that her team would not want to release it as a single, but we've had weird choices so anything can happen.

I used to really like it coz I never heard Journey's or Carey's versions. When I heard Journey's version I stopped liking Céline's since I realized there's really nothing special to it. I fell in love with the song, not the version.

I will forever love Celine's version of "Open Arms." I will never forget the premiere night and how that song went so perfectly. It gives me chills thinking about it. I remember it so well. The lights, the feelings, the sensation. It was amazing and I'll always associate it with that. Having just met with great friends that I'd talked to for so long and finally met and then seeing my favorite artist on stage again, nothing can compare. I like the song too, just not Celine's version (for the same reason you guys mentioned). I phrased it a bit wrong. Meant I don't get why people love Celine's version.

 

Edit: Alex I totally get what you are saying. The whole curtain thing also makes it special, but when I listen to a bootleg, it does nothing for me. That is why I'm worried about Celine recording it. I have a feeling she will be compared to Mariah, just like she was compared to Ann from Heart for her version of ''Alone''. We may be over the moon with everything she records, but the general publick does not always respond well to her versions of some songs.

"I Hate You Then I Love You" is a cover and i bet no one from this forum had heard the orginal song before (except maybe some italians)

I'd love a mix of both genre! Jazz and ballads sound great. (TLBSEPToi-type of jazz songs) and Its classy just like the show.

With few uptempo songs for futur world tour concerts.

this new upcoming ablum was promised a trillion years ago (same thing for the french album)... so i wont be surprised if they move the release date/month again.

I think Celine gives a lot of emotion to Open Arms and I'm sure her recorded version will be thrilling. In Vegas she is singing an edited version of the song. Maybe that is one of the reasons some people don't feel connected to it. Personally it gave me goose bumps.

But having said that, while I think it could make a great album opener, I don't want it released as a single. I'd much prefer original songs for that.

That's exactly what I mean, the way Mariah covered OA is the same as Celine covering TPOL. Now Celine is covering a song that already has 2 famous versions (the original & Mariah)

As long as they choose them wisely! Some songs can be very uptempo!

Ella Fitzgerald once sang 'Old McDonald' and somehow it's amazing uptempo!

 

Cry my a river is an beautiful song, but I hope it will not be only about sad slow songs.

She would be cool if she did the opposite, recording the not soo well known songs from them. Not the ones a lot of artists have albums of it

 

 

Very interesting. Wonder what songs they'll choose. Etta has done some really interesting songs such as Only Women Bleed and I Just Wanna Make Love To You. The incredible Dinah has done pretty much everything. What A Difference A Day Makes, is nice, but perhaps a little too safe and booring. Since I Fell For You, Cry Me A River and More Than You Know are very nice. So are Blow Top Blues, Drinking Again and Me And My Gin but I highly doubt we'll ever hear these from Céline. Nobody Knows The Way I Feel This Morning could do very well in a Tous Les Blues Sont Écrits Pour Toi-rendition. But how great wouldn't it be if the first track of the album was a steaming attitude-pumped There'll Be Some Changes Made! Can you imagine her starting of the album with these lines:

 

"Now there's a change in the wheater

and there's a change in the sea

so from now on there'll be a change in me..."

 

Make it soulful, make it uptempo. It could be really cool!

Or perhaps they'll go with the All The Way-esque Come Rain Or Come Shine.

The main problem here shouldn't be WHAT songs she'll choose but rather HOW she chooses to do them. Old standards can be great with new modern experimental sound (take a look at Sarah Mclachlan's version of Unchained Melody - seems like a totally new song and is INCREDIBLE).

 

Yes it could very well be a Buble-ish album. But I really hope they'll go for the more experimental frech and cocky sound he used to have before (Fever, Feeling Good) rather than his current safe and rather booring interpretions.

 

Jazz standards can be really frech and cool with a new experimental sound. But I guess neither new or experimental seems very appealing to the Céline team.
