Well if you noticed....Sony asked for her greatest HITS.. And the songs you just mentioned are her [greatest] hits, hence why they've been posted. Believe me, if it's the fan's choice, none of those songs would be on it, but it isn't and it isn't a 'fan album'..

You're missing my point. I know that those songs I have listed above are hits -- I'm not dumb -- but these songs have been used on previous Celine compilations. And I doubt that Sony BMG would actually like to include the same songs from All The Way and The Collector's Series Volume One on a new compilation. I believe that they're looking for a totally new and fresh approach to a new compilation, should they release one. I wouldn't be surprised if "My Heart Will Go On" actually gets included on a new Greatest Hits album, but still. Why not ask for songs we haven't seen on a compilation album before, like, for instance singles from 2002 onwards (some members have requested some of these songs), a bit of a pot pourri from old hits before 2000, and simply a Collector's Series Vol. 1 concept (rare songs, like "Super Love" which was only made available on selected editions of A New Day Has Come; "Send Me A Lover" which is a rare Celine Dion song, etc).

I'm not denying that "The Power of Love", "Think Twice", "Because You Loved Me" and so on aren't hits. I would be daft to do so, because like I said before and I quote myself here, they're "her signature songs".

Doesn't anybody else agree with me?

We probably all agree with you...but that isn't how Sony/the record labels work.. unfortunately. We don't know the specifics about this album, all we were told is that there will be a 'Greatest Hits' album and that we should post what songs/hits should be on it..

Well, given that it's a record company's first aim to make money, I would think it would be very smart to make sure that this GH album would have completely different tracks that ATW. You want people to stand there in the store, look at these two GH type albums, and think, "oh, I like the songs on this one, but I like the songs on this one too...so maybe I should splurge and buy both!". If you put the same songs on both, such as BYLM, MHWGO, IACBTMN etc...they'll only walk out of the store with one. So this one should have a different set of the favourites that people remember.

Secondly, if they want to appeal to both the casual fan who only wants her most popular songs that they've heard on the radio and seen from videos, and appeal to her fans, they should make this album like ATW, with a healthy dose of unreleased material. There are plenty of songs that are languishing in a vault somewhere, and if they were released, Sony could finally get some money back for what it cost to produce them, and the fans would be thrilled. Aside from that, I was once just the casual fan...the first album I bought was ATW and I only did so because I wanted one or two songs of hers...which actually weren't on the album! But what made me buy the album was the new songs that I'd heard from watching the video stations. This brings about two important points...if they want to sell the album, they should put on new songs, and PROMOTE even just one of them. It was actually the new songs on the album that made me a fan and got me to buy her previous works.

Additionally, I would hesitate to put any tracks on the album from TC, unless it's unreleased material or the EOM remix. The album is so new that if people buy and enjoy the GH album and become a greater fan, they would buy her most recent album anyway...and those songs aren't quite popular enough yet, or even "hits".

So I would, off the top of my head and in no particular order, perhaps something like this:

1. All By Myself (why wasn't this on ATW? But I think some casual fans would buy it just for this song)

2. The Reason

3. River Deep...(it's a fan favourite and everyone seems to enjoy it.)

4. I Surrender

5. A New Day Has Come (either one, but the remix is the one the public knows, and it was her comeback song)

6. I'm alive

7. I Drove All Night

8. Have You Ever Been In Love?

9. In Some Small Way (This song has more of a place than just being left on a lullaby album)

10. What A Wonderful World...(hey, it's a classic and people might buy the album wondering what her version is like.)

11-16...unreleased material.

if you really want WAWW on it, then I suggest a rerecording, cos her voice now is 10000 times better then when she recorded WAWW back then.... oh and people mentioned live versions... I don't think that would work at all on a greatest hits cd, unless you have a double cd... I'd rather have a full english cd of the tour! :yes:

Sony mught be interested, but I have a strong feeling they'll just release the japanese Best Of, without AWTBI and for that Alone or something :glare:

I agree 100%, which is why I was a little hesitant to include it, but I thought that perhaps the casual fans wouldn't notice as much as we, the fans, do!

so,so many good ideas on this topic,but i have a feeling we will not see any songs on this GH album that have not been released as a single somewhere.I also doubt the inclusion of new songs, as it has been said they are looking for 16 songs.I really doubt they will add more if any after the 16 as that would be too much for our money in their eyes :laugh:

Im really in two minds as to where they will go with this :hmm: my heart (which really doesnt want a GH album yet!)hopes for one filled with newer 'hits',but my head thinks they will release a mix of old and new to try to capter the new fans who dont know some of her old 'hits'.

To Love You More has been on like 6 albums, and then of course there's One Heart that had several recycled songs. This wouldn't be new for Celine, and certainly not a new concept in general. A lot of artists release greatest hits albums more than once in a career, and they always have the same songs, except for a few different. That's because they know people will buy them as long as there is something different about it. I know if All the Way was re-released even with one new song I'd be all over it, so of course they're going to put all her past hits on this new one! They will just put a few different songs, and they know people will eat it up!

I'm not quite sure you are right. It's not necessary to have 17 greatest hits albums, if there is a good quality one.. like All the Way.

Well yeah, he's right....Greatest Hits albums are usually targeted for non-fans, the 'general audience'.... most of the times they're released in the X-mas period (if the artist has no new album out). And usually they sell quite well..... look at ATW now, it's even selling better than TC in some countries!

ATW was a combination of her hits with the new songs she recorded. at least with that we got new material. GH's????????? what's that????? ????????? i'm sure a lot of people have the albums, if they liked a particular song at the time of the album release, i'm sure they would have bought it. i don't think there is need to target "non-fans". if they haven't bought any of the other albums they sure as hell ain't going to be buying GH's. the record companies really must be getting desperate to think that they can put out a GH's of an artist. i might as well put all my albums in the player and hit auto replay. that's how exciting this project is.

GH's do sell. I have a lot of GH's of artists who that is the onlye album I have of them. If I like some songs more on the GH I'll buy the original album with those songs on in hope to find more I like (however this can't be apllied to a Celine album since they all are as shizo as a GH and there's no album with similar over all sound on it). So a GH is very well a way reach wider audiences than the harcore fans.

Ummm... Okay, I know that, most likely, none of these track listings you guys are offering, will make it as the final thing on a new Celine Dion compilation, but what I've noticed is that you're all asking for the same songs, as in the same with each other, but also the same songs that were included on All The Way... in 1999 and The Collector's Series Volume One in 2000. I'm familiar with the fact that "The Power of Love", "Think Twice", "Because You Loved Me" and "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" as well as "My Heart Will Go On" are Celine's signature songs. But still, shouldn't we be asking for songs that have not been released on a previous compilation? And another little note, I've noticed that some people are actually adding songs on their lists that haven't even been released as any form of single (physical, radio, or digital); I'd understand if these songs were rare or unreleased, but they're not. They're just random songs.

Well yes, as logical as your theory is that leads only to an album with all the hits from ATW plus IDAN,IA and ANDHC. And even though you suggest adding all her latest singles on the GH, I must object to that, I don't see many thinking One Heart or Goodbye's The Saddest Word diserves to be on a GH.

And by adding tracks which never were singles: some tracks have become fan favourites and should had been singles but never were, those are indeed very well qualified for a spot in the GH tracklist.

WAWW has been used by too many to be included on Céline's GH, and ebsides it is and always will be Luis Armstrong's hit.

Well Mathi... Davey, I could make another tracklist just for you.

I made this one simply since it has to be realistic.

And people people, no use in fighting this. They have made up their minds and will release this. Even though I don't like that either, there are tons of gems left to be shown to the public on Talking Chances. But let's face it, this is how they operate. And we can either try to push against it and get even more miserable and bitter or we can try to do the best of the situation, and contribute to the things we want to see on this.

Here's my theory: accept the situation, and try to steer it into a direction which woud make you as happy as possible, then you have done what you can. Let's not judge this outcome even before it is finalized. We can whine when we get the confirmed tracklist. But we can't wine then if we didn't try to steer the project in a path which we would preffer, coz then we actually did nothing and then we can't complain about the outcome.

I agree it shouldn't be a rehash of ATW or the Collector's Series. If people want to hear the songs from those CDs, they can buy them. I would prefer a CD of the songs that the fans know and love but the general public may not have heard of. I know when I finally "discovered" Celine, it was her unfamiliar songs that I loved the most. I think MHWGO has had enough play. Everybody and their brother knows that song. I am still thinking of the song list, but I think it should include:

1. All By Myself (English version)

2. I'm Alive

3. I Ain't Gonna Look the Other Way

4. I Surrender

5. Send Me A Lover ( a rare song)

6. I Have To Dream (another rare beautiful song, only on the soundtrack from "Children On Their Birthdays")

7. The Reason I Go On

8. The Best (another Tina Turner classic that Celine knocks the socks off)

9. Is Nothing Sacred Anymore (never released song from one of her CDs, I don't remember which one)

10. Miles To Go (Before I Sleep)

11. I Drove All Night

12. I Know What Love Is

13. Let Your Heart Decide

14. To Love You More

15-17. New or unreleased material

I'm not totally married to this song list, but some of them would make a great addition because they are not available on her other CDs.

I know Celine's "Alone" is popular, but as much as I love Celine, that song is "owned" by Ann Wilson of Heart. :in_love:

Plus, I have another suggestion for a Celine CD of just "Duets". It could include both English and French songs and have Josh Groban (on something other than "the Prayer"), Andrea Boccelli, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Marc Dupre (Tout Pres de Bonheur, great song mostly written by Celine), Carole King, maybe Annie Lennox, and I'm sure they could come up with a host of others. What do you think of that possibility? :hmm:

I think it's "us" that hope that Sony will use different songs...but you're quite right. We all know we'll probably see the same collection of hits. :doh: Extreme fans will buy anything they put out with Celine's name on it and they know it, but if there's only one new song, many won't bother to buy it at all. It's more likely that people will simply download the one or two new songs from somewhere instead of paying twenty dollars for a bunch of songs they already have. Even TC didn't sell like they'd most likely hoped...so a GH album might not do as well as they think unless they make it REALLY appealing. I don't know. I suppose we just have to wait and see what Sony decides to do! They may surprise us...ya' never know.

I could actually live with that one Ronny... You know if MHWGO MUST be on the cd, then PLEASE make it a different version: either live (World's childrens day :wub2: from ACDS or something!) or maybe a remix :wub: but that will never happen! or the orginal demo version from the Titanic soundtrack! so it will be something all people know, but still is something different then the album version! :yawn:

i don't understand why so many ppl come up with a track for her Greatest hits album without at least putting some of her Greatest hits on it and yes i mean from the 90s and we all know which these songs are, MHWGO, TPOL, IACMTM, BYLM, ABM, TTWII being those that come to my mind. i can't imagine any recording label Sony included that would release a GH album without at least dunno lets say 4 of the tracks i mentioned and i also can't imagine any consumer buying a Celine GH album without those songs on it. we maybe want ppl (cause that's what a GH is for, NON fans) to listen to other stuff from Celine but in order to do so they have to buy it first... what i did was put some of the greatest hits from the 90s that -I- want, the obvious post 2000 greatest hits, ANDHC, IA, IDAN and TC and some fan / personal favorites and i believe that's what we're asked to do

Maybe they should just do an "Essentials" cd - those are usually 2 cds and packed with hits, minor hits, and other tracks that are popular with fans. Those usually do pretty well since you have just about everything on it.

Originally I was thinking like they wanted a follow up to Decade of Song, but if they're saying "greatest hits" then that's everything from Unison to the present.

I hope Sony does not put many of the songs already on Celine's "A Decade of Song." Celine had other hits that were not included in that project and should be included on this new "Greatest Hits" compilation. I wouldn't mind also seing on the list "Water from the Moon," "If there was any other way," "I surrender" (live), "One heart" (remix), "Surprise, Surprise" (live). The other thing I hope is that Sony gets creative with the songs they include on the CD. I hope that put remixes and/or live versions of the songs. Otherwise, I would not feel compelled to purchase this CD, b/c I already have the original songs...
