The thing that I'm the most disappointed about is not the fact that she lipped the songs (come on it was only a TV special, NOT a concert), but the fact that she didn't sing more songs from Taking Chances. I have a hard time understanding that especially if they were lipped. She should have promoted more this new album than her old stuff. And she should have sang Simply The Best instead of Something. Maybe it's good but I would have prefered a performance like we saw recently in France. I can't wait to hear the new version of EOP with Will.i.am. I hope they are going to release that version!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd agree with that. You want to make sure it sounds good.

Well it's not like she didn't have everything she need to make sure it sounded good. Her band was there with her, it was a real theatre compared to a TV studio she had for her UK special, they weren't in the middle of a publicity tour so they had more time to prepare and she has the best sound guys available. Besides, it's not her first special either so I'm sure they would know how to engineer the show and I would think that things advanced in the 20 years since he worked on those shows.

Not to mention the fact she's on vacation as of tonight so it's not like she needed to save her voice for upcoming performances, reviews here said the live performances were great so we know she was in good shape......so I really think they had everything they needed to be able to put on a live show.

Oh well. Nothing we can do about it now except look forward to it I guess.

Ok now, could we focus only on the show ? :ermm:

Maybe it has already been said but with all this playback issue, I can't find it. So please, for all the people who were at the show :

- At which degree Eyes on me has been re-worked ???? More instruments, different production, more up tempo, different rythms, what is the implication of Will I am ?

- How was her voice on "prayer" and "Something" exactly ? 2 songs she sung live.

- How was her ATTITUDE on Woman in me ?

The WMA's sounded good, the AMA's sounded good, the Oscars sounded good, all her previous specials sounded good. I don't get your point! It's 2008, and people have being broadcasting shows from theatres since the birth of television. If they can get good quality from a show Celine did 10 or 15 years ago then they surely can these days.

I'm over it. She's Celine...duhh she can sing. There must be a reason for lipping these past couple months whether her choice or managements. I'm not going to be disappointed unless tour comes around and she does it again. They do a lot of things to make things look/sound better on TV so that can deffinitely be the reason. Vegas I can understand her lipping some songs because she ran around like crazy on that show...and singing EVERY night..yeah not a good idea for her voice anyway. As for not singing a lot from the new album....I don't think she picks the setlist really. I think her promo team does it and she just goes along with what they say. A mix of old and new isn't such a bad idea for promo purposes because for non-fans a whole lot of new Celine is too much to take on at once. It would seem like she was trying too hard. So to put in familiar songs that everyone knows plus a few new sounding songs people who have yet to buy her album can get a taste of it. With only a few songs from TCH people got a hint of it and if they liked what they saw hopefully they'll buy the CD to hear the rest. Theres a lot of reasons for everything that goes on in the music industry that we don't know about...so when I graduate in may and got my job at sony I will tell you alllll the secrets lol. :thumbsup2:

I can't believe people are SO worried about " Celine singing LIVE or LIPPING" :confused:

I understand all your point of views, she CAN sing LIVE whenever she wants, and I do know as she has a "upcoming" tour singing LIVE would be the BEST choice, but you should STOP looking for "FLAWS" during Celine's performances... You always seem to watch her programs looking for, willing for mistakes to criticize her... if you enjoyed the concert only for fun, you wouldn't find so many flaws or imperfections ('coz, in fact, there are no BIG ones).. :ermm: :ermm:

I do believe this kind of "worries" are so vain and ineffectual... everybody knows Celine can sing, and the fact she sings "LIVE OR LIPPING" is SOOOO IRRELEVANT, for me... It is NOT gonna change my love and repect for her... I know what you will say: " She is a singer and singers SING LIVE"... I know what you mean, but don't you think there must be a reason for her not singing LIVE this time??? Oh No, criticizing her is easier than trying to understand... Human beings are always soooooooo cruel: they are NEVER satisfied, they never get ENOUGH... they always need more and more and more... It is soooooooooooooooo unfair criticizing Celine for such a FUTILE thing.... :ermm:

And just for the record, for the ones who state being concerned about Celine singing LIVE or not on her World Tour, even claiming that she/he is going to ask for a "refund" if Celine doesn't sing LIVE.... honey, why don't you sell your tickets and DO NOT go to the concert, because it is obvious you are going there not for fun, but for criticism...

Well, she didn't really break out into any songs... rather just a "hhhooooo haaaaaa" after every time she messed up a lip synced performance or in between takes... seemingly to create an illusion that she's singing live. LOL

I took someone to the taping... he was so excited. He had never seen her live before and was so thrilled over the AND DVD, etc... 3 minutes into the show when RDMH goofed, he just looked at me and said "oh sh!t, how embarrassing... she's lip syncing". LOL

Oh come on . Stop making excuses. If she wanted to sing live then she would. And that thing about the sound from the Television is stupid, cause if it was true , then there won't be any live performances and everyone would use playback. Plus she had the band, the background singers and everything. We all know Celine lips more than singing live... and actually she is very good at lipping. :lol:

I also can't except the excuse that she was lipping cause she wants to save her voice for the tour. The tour starts after a month... I think one month for resting her voice is enough.

I couldn'r agree more... if we do this, good-bye world tour... Celine will finally believe she was born to be a mother only... she will go home and never sing again....

The best two performances for me were RDMH and Eyes On Me! Her footwork was incredible, it was amazing!! ANd EOM OMG!!!!!!! The song had beats Will.I.Am was doing his thing at the same time Celine was doing her thing...ooh yeah and The Prayer was amazing, she sang it a little different...I mean it sounded the same but with so much more power.

I didn't realize till after half the show that I could take pictures...I was so used to tight security in Vegas that I was worried they would take my phone! So anyway, here are a few I snapped:

First of all to address the people that keep saying "You all are not fans, she is perfect no matter if she lips or not, how dare you!", I am not a mindless drone that just worships Celine and never has any opinions. I am a fan. As a matter of fact the reason I am a fan was due completely because of her voice. Not her looks, not her stage presence, not her entertainment quality, and not her as a person. (Although I have come to love her for her previous stated qualities throughout the years.) It was nothing but her voice for me. I heard her sing All By Myself and I was in love. The BIGGEST thrill for me as a fan is to hear her sing live. I love her flawed performances, I love her perfect performances. I am always interested in how she will interpret her next number. I don't mind her lipping a few performances. But it is atrocious to see her lip most of her shows these days. I wouldn't feel bad for her if this did go public, honestly. Atleast when it went public with Ashlee Simpson she gives nothing but live performances anymore. Celine is a singer, how about actually singing. To show just how much she lipps look below:

The tour will be fine - she has NEVER used a cd track on a tour (as far as in know) - so it will all be new.

ok people get over the fact if she was lipping or singing live!!! all performers do and if you guys are so called fans you would except her no matter what! you people don't understand how hard it is to take care of your voice. Its very hard work, you cant eat certain things you have to do vocal exercises breathing exercises. I know all this becaus I have to do them to!!!!! So stop criticizing Celine! She needs to save her voice for the tour. You people try having a 25 year career and keep your voice in shape.

I was there yesterday and she was amazing. You all should be jealous because you missed out on her little talks and jokes. She looked beautiful and was amazing as usual. For the quality of the sound they have to use playback. She was so funny and the outfits were beautiful. You should've been there during breaks. What a cutie! We all know she can sing, its Celine for crying out loud. Shell be 40 years old soon, and listen to her voice. Try comparing her to other divas that don't even dare to perform(live)!

Shes Celine and we should all love her no matter what. She has entered our lives in different ways and will always be our favorite. I wish we were all singers to see how hard it is and to have the courage to stop what production companies say or do. Their looking out for Celine so she sounds good no matter what!!!!!!!!!!

I just don't understand what people expect from her. When she sings LIVE, they say her voice isn't the same anymore, she needs vacation... So, when she finally uses playback to give herself some rest, they criticize her for doing so, claiming she can sing LIVE and she doesn't need to use playback... come on, that's sooooo confusing for me... lolololol :shy: :shy: :shy: :shy:

As far as I'm concerned, a lot of singers(maybe ALL of them) use playback on TV performances(Here in Brazil, that's the way it is), and everybody is aware of it. In fact, nobody cares because it is usually some kind of "marketing" for new albums and songs... so, as far as I know no singer or band has been cruficied for that... Why should Celine take this cross? I think it is unfair.

Concerning the tour, I am sure she will sing LIVE, so that's my point... don't you think it is soooo VAIN discussing about LIVE or LIPPING on a TV performance??? Thats so irrelevant, vain and fu****** useless.... LOLOLOLOL

I wouldn't care if Celine sang playback at my wedding...LOLOLOL Just seeing her in front of me would worth... that's for sure... Coz, If I cared only about her voice, it would be better for me listening to her cd.. this way I can't listen only to the song I want to, at the level I want to, without "little tiny surprises"... :sofunny:

The show overall was very good. She looked great, the live singing was all on par and the Eyes on Me remix was fantastic. I think Eyes on Me will definitely be the next single and the new version should get decent radio airplay. With a good video, it could be a hit.

And btw, Mariah Lipped her Madison Square Garden "Fantasy" Concert.....Youtube it

First of all, thanks to José for the live feedback!! Really appreciated!!

Most of the people complaining about playback don't know much about tv recording... TONS of singers use playback for TV specials in the US and around the world. It's VERY COMMON in Europe. And do you REALLY think that Madonna, Christina, Mariah, etc. actually sing live everywhere??? I've got news for you!!

At least Celine sings live at major Awards Shows and critics/media have always known that she CAN sing live!!! That's the difference between Celine and most other singers. Even if Celine lipsynchs on some tv shows, everyone out there knows that she can do it any time... but many other singers use playback and CANNOT sing live at all, including on TV shows, award shows and tour!!! Now, that's the type of artist that you shouldn't go see on tour... Go see a Madonna show, or Kylie, The Spice Girls, Britney, Mariah, etc. and you might never complain about Celine again!

I'm way more disappointed in the fact that this special will include My Heart Will Go On and Because You Loved Me (everyone knows they are Celine's song already!!!) but very few know about other gems like Fade Away and I've Got Nothing Left!!! A lost opportunity in my opinion...
