LEt's say Sainkho taught me to seek out the balance and the good in the world. What Childish was saying was 100% right and it's absolutely not the end of the world what has happened. We can't control the "Céline enterprise" as she described herself in one of my favorite interviews so let's better enjoy what we have and we will have "Something" - a most beautiful song to cry and sigh to. First of all, thanks to José for the live feedback!! Really appreciated!!

 

Most of the people complaining about playback don't know much about tv recording... TONS of singers use playback for TV specials in the US and around the world. It's VERY COMMON in Europe. And do you REALLY think that Madonna, Christina, Mariah, etc. actually sing live everywhere??? I've got news for you!!

At least Celine sings live at major Awards Shows and critics/media have always known that she CAN sing live!!! That's the difference between Celine and most other singers. Even if Celine lipsynchs on some tv shows, everyone out there knows that she can do it any time... but many other singers use playback and CANNOT sing live at all, including on TV shows, award shows and tour!!! Now, that's the type of artist that you shouldn't go see on tour... Go see a Madonna show, or Kylie, The Spice Girls, Britney, Mariah, etc. and you might never complain about Celine again!

 

I'm way more disappointed in the fact that this special will include My Heart Will Go On and Because You Loved Me (everyone knows they are Celine's song already!!!) but very few know about other gems like Fade Away and I've Got Nothing Left!!! A lost opportunity in my opinion...

 

I also happen to be a Kylie fan, and I think her voice was amazing on the Showgirl Homecoming tour.. so sorry, but I would not put her in the same category with Britney. Also, she always sings live... so you can say that at least she makes an effort.

It's fun to sit here and read all the replies roll in. I mistakenly clicked the "email notify button", now im getting email alerts everytime someone replies since I last replied yesterday after I got home from the taping. LOL

 

The folks in front of me were upset over the seating arrangements, then someone chimed in "this is the wiltern theatre! it's known for it's wonderful live acoustics... we have the best seats in the house considering how the theatre is shaped and the location of the speakers. you can tell they did a great job is preparing for such a wonderful live act" The gentleman who made that comment indicated that he was an architect, etc., so we all took his knowledge with thanks. Then once the lip syncing started, I saw him look at a buddy and just kinda frown. LOL All the hype about the great acoustics for a live act were slightly deflated when RDMH stopped and just about everyone realized she wasn't signing live. I suppose if that hadn't of happened during the first number, it would not have been so obvious to the non-crazy-fan-types like us like she was lipping. Bummer.

 

I also ran into some of the band members as they exited their cab [apparently from the airport]. The violinist and percussionist both got out of a taxi cab [violin in tow] and smiled to us as we waited for the gal to come with our tickets. This was in the early afternoon... around 2pm. Who knows what was going on in the theatre. Obviously not a sound check. LOL Just kidding...

The show overall was very good. She looked great, the live singing was all on par and the Eyes on Me remix was fantastic. I think Eyes on Me will definitely be the next single and the new version should get decent radio airplay. With a good video, it could be a hit.

If they didn't use the Vegas prerecorded tracks, it would be more forgivable. What a missed opportunity to promote the album. I'm most looking forward to Eyes On Me, Sometime, and TJTWIM.

What Celine lacked in vocals last night she made up for in SHAKING HER A$$!!!

 

 

Oh, and "Something" was the Beatles version, not the Shirley version. It was so beautiful!!

Oh and like everyone said, EOM with Will i am sounded sooo cool! EOM wasn't one of my favorite songs before this but I love it now and I can't wait too get this version!

 

Oh and I don't know if anyone mentioned this; with the short white fringy dress she wore last night she was wearing black leather THIGH HIGH BOOTS!!! Very sexy!

Different outfit..a black bellbottom pant suit with sliver glittery appliques..and the dancers were different..they were doing more of hip-hop dance...and dressed just like JTimberlake's vidoe "MY LOVE". The beat was deeper...it's less middle eastern sounding/ shoulder shrugging and more hip hop/rasta head bopping.

Hello, darlings... LOVE is in the house!

 

Yes, like Jillian had stated earlier - I was able to attend the show!

IT WAS FABULOUS!

 

The songs that were live were just BEAUTIFUL!

Her performances were stellar.

She was so comfortable in her own skin.

 

She looked absolutely beautiful, hot, and stunning in her gowns and outfits throughout the show!

 

One of the highlights from the show... when Celine talked about her ghetto booty!

 

There were too many wonderful memories from the show, and I shall share with y'all in vlogs that Malu, Mike and I had recorded this morning - to be uploaded soon!

 

Anyway, I'm so swamped right now.

 

What an adventure it was!

 

To Malu and Mike - I send lots of love! Our trip was just toooooo fast, but I'm glad to have you two with me.

I think everybody needs to get over the fact that yes, Celine lip syncs...okay!! It is what it is, why make it more than it has to be?? Making a huge fuss about it won't change the outcome. It doesn't make me like Celine any less. She was on freakin fire last night. She was hot, she was in a great mood, it was such a nice evening. You guys will really enjoy the show if you let yourselves, but if you get to caught up in the lipping crap, you're not gonna be able to enjoy the special when it airs. Obviously it won't be anything like it was in person due to the editing and stuff, but I'm sure it will still be great.

 

BTW, I am curious if they will make this a 2-hour special? I know the taping took about 3 hours and there was a lot of retakes and dead time, but still she sang 12 songs along with talking and questions being asked. So to me, there's no way they could possibly make it 45 minutes (minus commercials) without cutting A LOT of the content. So, here's hoping for a 2-hour special. Yay for the writers strike...it's not like there will be anything else to air, so why not give 2 hours to Celine!

Lypsing sucks no matter who nor matter where ! There is no valid reason for lypsinging. A singer can't sing tonight ? cancel.

 

If I pay a plumber to fix the drains and he petends doing it very well, he will not be paid.

If I pay a dancer to dance and he shows me a video where he once danced very well,he will not be paid.

IF I PAY 300$ to go see mz.dion and she lysings (does not sing) she will not...oh god dam* she already has my money !

 

Be it 1550's, 1990's or 2000's there is no reason for a world wide diva to pretend singing.

 

The fact she has done it in the past does not mean we should expect this from her.

 

By the way I think people who are bashing the lypsing are not really bashing Celine's talent but this trend,which is horrible.

Sarah, there definitely were not enough footages to last for a two hour show.

 

Allowance was for 45 - 48 minutes in total running time for this TV special.

This is completely untrue... verify your information. The concert may be dubbed for the DVD, but it was 100 % live and you can find the real versions in YouTube (they actually sound better to me). Plus this concert is not a tour concert. It is a TV special. The first time Mariah used playback on tour was in 1998 and it was a little. Plus Celine has also used a little playback on her tours... No one is in any position to say if someone is or isn’t a fan. If a fan is questioning Céline or disappointed in her for any reason, they have the right to voice that concern. Being her fan (in my opinion) is being supportive, but being supportive is also giving her constructive criticism. Just because you have an opinion that is critical, does not mean you are not a fan. In fact, I have much more respect and I imagine Céline may as well, for the fans who say what needs to be said that no one else will as opposed to the fans who say she did a good job, when she maybe could have done better.

 

Obviously the majority of people that are concerned about this, only worry that she will gain a reputation for not singing live. Many are concerned she is not putting forth the effort, which I disagree with - she hasn’t had a break in a long time. Vegas, recording the album, promotional tour, Vegas, rehearsing, TV Special… she didn’t even get to spend Christmas with her family at home. She is sacrificing a lot to make this album and tour a success, we shouldn’t forget that. In a way, I expected her to sing in playback for this special - although I was shocked when I read that it was almost entirely in playback. I would have assumed after her special in the UK, they wouldn’t take the chance (no pun intended) of getting more bad press about the issue. As many have already mentioned, being there live you get an entirely different experience, she could be lip-syncing the dictionary and everyone would stand up to applaud. I’m including myself in that scenario as well! Also, even though I wasn’t shocked - I was disappointed that she only sang a few songs from Taking Chances. When this album was about to come out, I was so excited. This is a side of Céline, we have all seen, but the world had yet to see. There are so many amazing songs on this album, I wish they had been performed instead of the “hits”. Regardless, I love her and always will.

Let me just say that music fans here in the Philippines are SOOOOOOO spoiled bec. their favorite singers sing live everytime, everywhere, no matter the level of talent, no matter the level of vocal conditioning. The only ones who lip are actors and actresses who have to sing when they want to promote a movie (That's Philippine culture for you. )

When Celine sings live, it's an EVENT. When a Fil. singer does it live, it's STANDARD PROCEDURE. Oh well.

I can't even describe how disgusted I am with her lip synching lately. I would rather only see her perform once a year and do it live than every other week lipping the same crappy version over and over again on every single appearance. It's like she's not even trying anymore! If she really "has nothing to prove" then sit home and watch RC play Wii, and stop giving us halfa**ed lipped performances. It is absolutely ABSURD to stand on a stage and move your lips to YOUR OWN FREAKING RECORDED VOICE. She's hailed as one of the greatest singers ever to grace a stage, and all she's doing lately is shaming that reputation. She should be completely ashamed of herself. It's a travesty that she is pulling this crap time and time again. It's becoming a joke. She makes 80 MILLION FREAKING DOLLARS A YEAR TO SING 3 SONGS LIVE. If she's going to put out an album, I'd rather her not even promote it than do these ridiculous specials where she doesn't even sing the songs. If you can't sing them live, then don't bother promoting! Thank god her voice is so magnificent in the studio because I couldn't handle this crap if I didn't at least have a good recording. If you're going to lip every FREAKING song, at least RE-RECORD a vocal, and not use the same CRAPPY PLAYBACK tracks you've been using the last 5 years! AT LEAST MAKE IT SOMEWHAT CONVINCING THAT YOU'RE NOT A TOTAL SHAM.

 

It is appauling to lip to a cd recorded version. And after the criticism she got for the "An Audience With..." special, she still doesn't take a hint and sing these freaking songs live. What is happening to Celine??????????????? I'm so irritated I can't even see straight right now! She's one step away from hiring a freaking Celine impersonator to get on stage and lip her songs for her! And I'm absolutely sick of these people here who constantly make excuses for her! i can't accept a singer lips her songs, especially one like celine, my all time favorite singer.

i used to praised her in front of my friends whose idols are those who are unable to sing, but now, celine is becoming one of them! and since she lips her songs sooooooooooooooo often lately, i couldn't help but wondering if she's losing her voice... you can call me crazy or curse me for making such statement, but ONLY her live performance can prove me wrong, your words don't count. i mean, not one or two songs live, but a whole concert straight live! its never demanding to ask a professional singer to do this, is it?

 

i also think she's been secretly, likely, actually, literally training a celine mpersonator to help her do the lipsing while she sits at home playing wii with her son...

If she would've used album tracks, people would complain she's using the album versions and not even a pre-recorded live version. Now she uses "recent" pre-recorded live tracks, and now you're saying she should use album tracks instead (not counting "live")?
