Celine to star in "An Audience with Celine Dion" on December 22nd - ITV1

everyone in my house think the first 2 songs of medley were live, what do you think? I was there live when they filmed it and it just felt different.

They definitely were NOT live. Nothing on this show tonight was live apart from the odd lines Celine sang during the chatting.

Frankly as a Celine fan I was embarrassed by the "vocal performances" on this show tonight. Celine gave all her haters all the ammo they wanted with this single show tonight. The entire show was lipped, from start to finish. Celine got exclusive prime time airtime on the UK's biggest TV station for Saturday night shows, just 3 days before Christmas and you know what, she blew it.

 

Yes she looked great, yes the banter with the audience was good and she came across well but almost everyone would've tuned into this show to hear Celine sing. It was embarrassing.

 

"Think Twice", Celine's biggest hit in this country was CRINGEWORTHY! They even let it fade out at the end!!!! The audience had to start applauding whist Celine's voice was fading out awkwardly.

 

The positives for me was that it gave much needed exposure to "Eyes On Me" and for that performance Celine, I think, came across as cool and young, which is what the song needs. So it's good promo for the new single.

 

Overall though, and I was so hyped about this show, a major major disappointment.

your making a big deal out of it she already said it a million time she doesnt need to prove anything now ,shes enjoying and everybody lips its not a prob sometimes she sings live other times she dont feel well so she lips relax guys

Sorry but you've missed the point we're trying to make. This isn't about whether Celine needs to prove anything. This is about faking her way through a special that was really important in terms of her UK sales and getting her new single that's about to be released some good exposure. And the fact us fans would have loved some great performances from her. She's a professional singer and singing live comes with the job. In fact, it IS the job. Simple as that! And it's also about other people's enjoyment, not just her own. People turned up at that show expecting her to sing and she didn't. I turned the channel over before and Girls Aloud are singing live in a tiny studio with no band. Celine has a band with her on stage for her own special and she does the whole thing playback? You can't expect people to not be disappointed with that, no matter why the show wasn't live.

I find this whole "she doesn't have to prove anything now" unacceptable.

 

It's just like saying that once a footballer has scored a few goals they don't need to bother trying anymore.

 

Celine is a singer, and she is paid to sing. She makes her living singing. Throughout this exclusive special "just for Celine to get some promotion in the UK" show, she was pretending to sing. And that's the fans saying that! Imagine what her harshest critics will be saying! I'm not being nasty, those are just facts.

Celine did say that she hopes to get some days off in London to do some sightseeing and shopping!! Who knows? We might get to bump into Celine when she's in London!!! Awesome plan.. I should hang around Buckingham palace, big ben and westminster area to make sure we get to see CELine!! haha, I don't think that will happen but it's not impossible.

Although I don't care for celine lipping on TV. What bothers me is that she sings playback on a concert where you pay more than 100 dollars..

May I add a couple comments to this discussion...? At first, I have a simple question - has anybody of you worked in music management ? If not, you may be unaware of MANY things, which influence (or even dictate) the singer's decision to sing live or to "lip". Sometimes it's even NOT the singer, who decides that.

 

At first, can the show guarantee a RELIABLE sound for a live performance ? Sometimes they can, sometimes not. I just watched the video from X Factor, and it was obvious, that something was wrong with Celine's monitor. If they can't guarantee it for ONE song, then can you imagine how much they can mess up with a full show ? OK, "An Audience with Celine Dion" wasn't a live broadcast, but anyway - there's always time limit for taping it. By the way, I'm not sure even if it was live accompaniment for X Factor or playback. Do you remember Grammy Awards and "Dance with my father" ? It was GRAMMY Awards ! And there were problems !!

 

The next thing - to sing live, you need a solid sound-check and a rehearsal with musicians (if the musicians are different). But if you have come to London for a couple days and you have to make several specials, TV interviews, probably much more publicity, maybe some business stuff etc. etc., then where to find the time for the sound-check and rehearsal ?

 

One more thing - the fact that the singer has appeared on TV and is smiling - means nothing. You CAN'T know, how the singer is actually feeling. She can act being happy in front of cameras, but actually she might feel completely different. Only the closest people (like manager, personal assistant, maybe PR manager) knows that, and they would never tell anybody. Maybe she is sick, maybe tired, exhausted, maybe worried about some personal issues... we never know that ! This publicity stuff is planned months before, there are contracts signed about her participation, and if something unexpected happens - the singer can't simply cancel an appearance. For example, she hasn't been in London for 5 years, there might be unexpected kind of jetlag kicking in, maybe unexpected weather - all these things influence the voice. Then you might have to decide - to sing on a playback, but at least to show up and do the interview, or to disappoint many fans, cause trouble for the TV station, who has to change the programme etc. etc.

 

Finally, I haven't seen "An Audience with....", and I DON'T advocate for "lipping". But I have worked in that industry and know something about such situations. So, I wanted to say that it's not fair to judge ONLY the singer. You have to judge the whole situation. I think Celine Dion has sung enough shows in Las Vegas to prove, that she CAN sing live...

well i totally loved the show and enjoyed every minute!! was only disappointed with the questions the audience asked, very repetitive, the Eurovision must have been mentioned at leat 4-5times.

I haven't seen the show yet but while I was in the pub I got 12 texts from mates who were watching and they said she looked and 'sounded' amazing. Even my friend Jill was getting texts from her emo friends who were sitting in watching saying she was actually amazing. And lip-synching wasn't mentioned. Mum said it was brilliant too. I can't be bothered worrying about lip-synching anymore.
