Celine to star in "An Audience with Celine Dion" on December 22nd - ITV1

On some of the really big TV forums like Digital Spy, people are saying they lost interest when they realised it was all playback and changed the channel. I guess a really good live show would have kept people's attention.

So shocking it was mimed.....not... We knew it was mimed 6 weeks ago when people came back from the taping.

 

I believe after this reactions even from fans that Céline, René or who ever in her team should have cancelled this whole thing from the moment they knew she had to mime all for what ever reason.

 

I think Céline would be ashamed herself if she would see this I mean she even had to mime with Andrea Borcelli so there must have been a very good reason to mime not saying that I approve that but like I said then I would have cancelled it instead of going on with it but with less time to cancell her biggest show on uk television in years after a not so good performence on the x-factor cancelling would be the last word in René's head maybe now when the critics will fall over it he would think twice.

imo, it is somewhat low. However i can understand why. The X Factor finished last week and Strictly Come Dancing was always another ratings winner (they were rivals for the two most popular broadcast stations) - add to the fact that it was the final, additional viewers were watching.

May I add a couple comments to this discussion...? At first, I have a simple question - has anybody of you worked in music management ? If not, you may be unaware of MANY things, which influence (or even dictate) the singer's decision to sing live or to "lip". Sometimes it's even NOT the singer, who decides that.

 

At first, can the show guarantee a RELIABLE sound for a live performance ? Sometimes they can, sometimes not. I just watched the video from X Factor, and it was obvious, that something was wrong with Celine's monitor. If they can't guarantee it for ONE song, then can you imagine how much they can mess up with a full show ? OK, "An Audience with Celine Dion" wasn't a live broadcast, but anyway - there's always time limit for taping it. By the way, I'm not sure even if it was live accompaniment for X Factor or playback. Do you remember Grammy Awards and "Dance with my father" ? It was GRAMMY Awards ! And there were problems !!

 

The next thing - to sing live, you need a solid sound-check and a rehearsal with musicians (if the musicians are different). But if you have come to London for a couple days and you have to make several specials, TV interviews, probably much more publicity, maybe some business stuff etc. etc., then where to find the time for the sound-check and rehearsal ?

 

One more thing - the fact that the singer has appeared on TV and is smiling - means nothing. You CAN'T know, how the singer is actually feeling. She can act being happy in front of cameras, but actually she might feel completely different. Only the closest people (like manager, personal assistant, maybe PR manager) knows that, and they would never tell anybody. Maybe she is sick, maybe tired, exhausted, maybe worried about some personal issues... we never know that ! This publicity stuff is planned months before, there are contracts signed about her participation, and if something unexpected happens - the singer can't simply cancel an appearance. For example, she hasn't been in London for 5 years, there might be unexpected kind of jetlag kicking in, maybe unexpected weather - all these things influence the voice. Then you might have to decide - to sing on a playback, but at least to show up and do the interview, or to disappoint many fans, cause trouble for the TV station, who has to change the programme etc. etc.

 

Finally, I haven't seen "An Audience with....", and I DON'T advocate for "lipping". But I have worked in that industry and know something about such situations. So, I wanted to say that it's not fair to judge ONLY the singer. You have to judge the whole situation. I think Celine Dion has sung enough shows in Las Vegas to prove, that she CAN sing live...

You can keep making excusses,, my argument is this yeah there are problems with singing live

with the band and equiptment etc....

but you dont agree to do a show knowing you dont have the things available to do it!

secondly celine has been in the buisness for 25 years how comes only now she has a problem

with singing live!! not because of techincal problems! otherwise your trying to say this is the

first time she has had technical faults!!

I dont think it was much to do with her being ill. Although it is horribly disappointing that she mimed it really isn't any different to what she has done for years

 

All her TV specials have been lipped - except from the US ones which are usually half live.

 

TCOML, D'eux, D'elles, 1FQT were all lipped - even back in the Unison days that was lipped too.

 

LTAL, TAST and ANDHC were only part live

 

She really has not done anything different from her normal. TV stuff is usally lipped with Celine. end of and we should have all have knoen before foing and expecting more. I reckon a lot of people will have taped it cos the dancing is a live show and people want to see it there and then - they can watch Celine anytime.

Sadly I did not get to see the show because I was out and my video machine did not record!! But my dad saw it and he said it reminded him of why he likes Celine and why he paid a lot of money to see her at wemberly in 1999.

Im glad she was shown at a good time of night in the UK, although she was up against the hugely popular Strictly Come Dancing, but ever since I saw an audience with the Bee Gees in like 1998 I was hoping for one with Celine.

 

From what it sounds like I don't think this show is so much different from any other of her similar shows, for example The Colour of My Love DVD is pretty much all lip-synched, almost all the songs fade out and that was years ago,it didn't really damage her then, so I don't see why it would now?

 

Anyway Im just happy she was on UK TV

They have take song from A New Day "river deep mountain high from 1996 she don't have the same voice and she can sing this song live " taking chances from the new album and from a new day in playback...ridiculous"I Drove All Night it's ridiculous , sing this song in playback she have do this the last five years ...

We all KNOW THAT CELINE HAD VOCAL PROBLEMS IN THE UK!!!! She would have received AWFUL reviews had she sang live and didn't live up to her reputation.

 

The show went on. Celine only had a limited time to promote overseas, and sadly her voice couldn't do it. She is human. She'll be back over there this summer. You'll see her first-hand.

 

I can't wait to see this show! Sounds fun to me! I hope I get tickets to the Kodak theatre for the US version of the show. I bet we'll see mostly live tracks there, so she can make it up.

celine has always used playback...for all her tv specials. not one is fully live and many are complete playback

You know after seeing "Eyes on me" performed I've grown a whole new appreciation for it! I can't stop listening to it. Today in my car I finally 'got it' why Sony are releasing it----its friggin smokin'!

Lets leave question of whether her performance will spoil the chance of promotion to her management. That's what they're paid for and like or not, they have the experience, not us.

I did enjoy the show, and she looked gr8, good to see a bit of vegas there to with the visuals and dancers...she mimed badly on two songs the 1st ''rdmh'' and it was badly obvious at one point, and ''tlym''.

 

I loved her reply to louie walshs question, it was hillarious all my family were cracking up, and friends who normally dont like her music or her, but who watched it said they seen another side to celine, and that was down to earth and funny, and some said they love the new single ''eyes on me'' for me that was the best part of the show, it was so fresh with the dancers and wipping her skirt off,lol...

 

i know she mimed it all but its good publicity, and i cant wait to see the album sore up the charts this week
