"I Am: Celine Dion" documentary - Official Topic

Plus there's already two unofficial biopics in the pipes.

I would much rather like a musical approch though, since we seriously lack of that kind of things. It just feels like every documentary made about her (when she's involved) is telling the story of a normal person living an extraordinary life. Wich makes me circumspect when she says she'll show a side of her we've never seen.

It would be interesting if we have a focus on the way she deals with cancelations due too illness or vocal problems. She talked about that over the years in documentaries, but not at length.

I wonder if there will be a scene in the documentary of her opening up the CelineDionForum on her iPad and reading what we say about her.

Ha, well I suspect the very reason she managed to stay reasonably sane through her career is because that's precisely the sort of thing she avoids. Much as we complain about her / her team not knowing how to use social media et al, perhaps it's a good thing. People on there can be vile and she doesn't need to see any of that commentary.

But, I do believe Irene could be lurking and doing research in places like this. We know Jenna did...

I would be shocked if her team or someone at Sony didn't read some of what's said. It is incredibly bad practice not to at least be aware.

And regular sanity is best to not read commentary about yourself, but for a documentary it would be great.

Celine's career isn't at a point where it still matters what forums say. Sure some staff members have to check.

But as a Legendary artist, it's not that important anymore.

Do what we (some) complain here about have an impact? She's still (and everyone behind her) making big bucks with residencies and tours, which aim at the general audience.

So...

I wouldn't think so since it was just recently announced. I am a free lancer for Apple productions. When films/ shows first get announced pre production can last 3-5 months before filming .

If not more...

I suspect it'll take Irene months to do her research and prep (of course, she could have been doing it all through the pandemic). Imagine the treasure trove of Feeling Productions goodies she has at her disposal. We know Rene kept and archived everything. There must be so much fascinating material in the Feeling vaults. How I wish they didn't have to cut down a doc to some reasonable 1.5-2hr time limit. There must be hundreds of hours of footage already, before they even film anything new.

I also wish they would go to the various Canadian national and TV archives. They have Celine stuff that is not available anywhere else, from what we have seen at least.

What clips I want/expecting to see in the documentary:

1. Some rare photos from her early ages.

2. 80s clips of Celine singing.

3. Celine telling us about one of her song and what it means to her, maybe it'll be ABM, MHWGO, or Courage.

4. A Where Does My Heart Beat Now rare clip.

5. Maybe even Lying Down clip(even a snippet) but I think it's too much to ask from the vault.

We'll hear about the ABM note, the 1999 tour, the babies, Rene's passing - fin.

If it were some rote Behind the Music-type rehash, sure. But with Irene at the helm, I doubt it. They wouldn’t hire a filmmaker like her to do something any commercial director off the street could do.

Here story isn't exactly a sexy one. Rags to riches girl makes good. I'm glad it's the case, but it is what it is.

If the documentary gets gritty with Celine's health battle---assuming it is serious, which I hope it is not--then that would be a chance for us to see something quite different we have never seen from Celine.

Or if she talks about the immense presure she felt throughout her career. Although I always thought she was quite resilient and handled pressure quite well, even if she was nervous at times.

The TIna Turner documentary was amazing, but it was not really anything incredibly new. If it's like that, I would still watch it for sure and be happy, but a little let down.

Maybe they’ll delve into the rumours that René groomed Céline because he was afraid she’d pull a Ginette Reno (firing him so her boyfriend could take over as manager) thus ruining his plan for world domination and disrupting his lifelong flow of income.

Nah, we’ll just get the same old story. I’m not sure why we are expecting something different at all. Céline seems more protective of her privacy now more than ever, so why would she start revealing “new” stories? Even if we get some rare footage, her own version of her life story hasn’t changed.

I think they’ll definitely dive into Rene’s last cancer battle and how that affected Celine as a mother. The first time around, it was just the two of them. It was easier for her to be strong just for Rene. But this time she had 3 kids to be strong for. That had to take a toll. It was a very different scenario for her.

I am having to nurse a very sick pet recently, and it is very sad. I can only imagine how it was for her to have to do that for Rene.

Do y'all think this has been in the works for a couple of years now? Could Irene have been following her around for a while and now they feel they can announce something?
I have had the time of my life following this woman! Much love.

I doubt it. Irene was still promoting her last film when the pandemic hit. And she only started following Celine on IG in the last week or so.

I think this is something Sony cooked up during the pandemic, while exploring ways to better monetize Celine's catalog (and banking on a doc-driven halo effect on her streaming), and conducted a director search in the past few months (possibly after seeing the interest Aline was generating).

I'm glad they went with a doc rather than an authorized biopic - that just seems self-indulgent, especially so early in life.

These are very different magnitudes obviously, just to be clear I was not trying to equate pets and humans. It just made me think of how hard sickness, death, and caring for loved ones is.

I feel you. I had to do this with my 15 year old dying cat 3 years ago. Absolutely heartbreaking and takes a toll. I can't imagine the magnitude of taking care of a sick loved one, especially for long periods of time. Must be awful and not something you can easily get out of your mind.

Thank you so much. Actually, it did not go very well. We had to put him down today :( I am still in a bit of shock.

This would be a very sensitive topic for her I'm sure, if that's really what happened. She may not be willing to address it. We'll just have to see.

I do think they'll go into a good bit of detail here. Maybe also focus it more on how's she's revamped her life now and taken charge in ways she hasn't had to for years.

I'm so sorry! I understand the shock and pain. I can tell you loved him very much and did everything you could. This is the worst day as a pet parent.
