So is this an actual documentary or like movie with actors some websites say both things. Also does anyone have a guess to what side of things we will see that shes never shown before im so curious like i wonder if it’s about her personal challenges or her daily life at home with her kids idk hasnt she shared it all

It's still Sony, be careful :P

But it's been toooo long since we got a proper 'docu' about her.

I'm curious what it will look like.

Can't wait for more details

Very happy to hear this news! The fact Sony is putting money into her (finally) makes me hope this will be epic. Hope it comes along with something special including new music.

Sony are very lucky to have Celine…. I know they love her and I’m happy they want to promote her after all this time.

Do we think it’ll be the start of the Netflix bits we had hoped for/predicted?

So.... now people want a compilation album... but spent circa two years b*tching when Sony released tour-specific compilation albums comprising of the set lists of each show and instrumentals?

... I can’t with y’all lol

First of all, I said a retrospective collection like On ne change pas. For those of us before 2015, we know this collection featured many gems that weren't previously available and it had her sony music housed with her pre-Incognito work for the first time. Nobody said a compilation. No need to be a ***t waffle.

I wonder if they have this planned to be released for her 40th anniversary in show business?

It'll go as follows: I have 13 brothers and sisters. I loved Rene he's the only man in my life for the first hour then 20 minutes on music which 10 of these minutes will be how she didn't want to do MHWGO!

Just playing devil's advocate there lol.

I doubt it.

I'd normally be wary of a doc or biopic that's "official" or "authorized", and especially one produced by her label, because the likely result is a fawning, self-serving, and sycophantic portrait.

But I don't think that's the case here. Irene Taylor Brodsky is a real, serious documentarist and journalist. I trust she can do something thoughtful and well-rounded here.

Her last film was about her son (Moonlight Sonata, trailer below), and here's an interview of her talking about it with Tom Power (at CBC's Q... you might remember him as he dude who got Celine to give him the finger! ;)) https://www.scribd.c...dcast/418709847

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBV43REbk-g

She also made (Emmy and Critic's Choice-nominated) Beware the Slenderman, which I remember watching on HBO a few years back. Here she is talking with Tom about that one: https://www.wnyc.org...the-slenderman/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS_Y5Dejwc4

She got her Oscar nomination for The Final Inch, a short about eradicating polio (how a propos at the moment!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCZ-bbkn44c

Judging by her previous projects, this might end up on HBO.

If she release a new album simultaneously with this documentary, with proper promotion, I'm sure this will be huge.

I’m going into this whole thing very cautiously optimistic. It could very well be a rehash of every other documentary done about Celine. Hopefully this one has less fluff and more substance.

She does mention we'll get to see a side of her we haven't seen before. I'm wondering if it'll be more of the glimpse we got during Carpool Karaoke (i.e yes she cusses sometimes lol)? Whether or not it is, just how much more we'll get to see is the big question here.

I believe there will be new album or at least compilation album to follow this. She has couple new songs to be added kn compilation since mylove essential 2008. That was 13 years ago.

And recording studio scenes are actually good material for documentary..i.e shawn mendes and billie eilish style documentary. I would rather it be prime or netflix rather than hbo

I'm reserving judgment on this one. Hopeful, but also wary.

I really, really, reeeeeeeally hope Céline doesn't have any kind of final cut approval - documentaries overseen by or with too much involvement from their subjects tend to be hagiographies rather than true portraits of the person/artist involved. I couldn't care less about a sanitized version of Céline that avoids any hint of controversy and paints nothing but a rosy picture with carefully curated and approved "dark chapters" - that's basically an episode of VH1 Behind The Music.

The choice of director gives me some hope, though. I just hope (and believe) that she has sufficient integrity in her role as a documentary filmmaker that she won't roll over to the behemoth that is the Céline-Sony industrial complex. :)

I believe a new album will accompany this. I wouldn’t say this normally but the fact that sony music is a big part of this they will definitely milk it.

Exactly. TTEOTW, For Keeps, My Story My Dream all suffered from this problem.

Also, “Céline-Sony industrial complex” is getting added to my lexicon! 😆

That’s just stuff Céline says. Like “the best is yet to come” or “I’m an open book”, or any number of phrases that roll off her tongue. Remember when she told us CWT was going to be new and different? Yeah, it’s kind of like that.

Yes I hope it's more than a Behind The Music like docu and we will get a deeper look in Celine's life and career.

Hahaha I LOVE IT :lmao:

I really liked VH1 Behind The Music though. It was fitting for that time & place, but I do agree that something more in-depth will result from her collaborating with a critically acclaimed doc director. Part of me wonders if her nephew’s movie is dead in the water and this is meant to finish off, in part at least, that concept of shining more light onto her early years than most of the public has seen. Surely there will be scenes from her recent life (perhaps gearing up for a new show) cut with her memories from her youth. Hopefully Irene is getting full access to the archives and we can see some remastered images from Céline’s past.

I'm imagining this might end up something like the recent Tina Turner documentary, Tina. While that one didn't go into as much detail as I'd have liked and glossed over some key periods in her career (and almost completely ignored her career post-her big comeback in 1984), it provided a generally good overview of her life, from early days through her start in music, through the years of abuse with Ike (not glossing over how bad it was), and on to her resurgent career success.

That documentary had complete participation from Tina herself, who gave the filmmakers three in-person interviews during its production, but you never got the sense that she'd tried to censor them or prevent them from including anything (of course, who knows?). Most importantly, I don't believe she had right of approval on the final product. Granted, the story they were telling was about triumph over adversity rather than digging into anything unflattering, but I also can't think of any major events or controversies that they ignored.

With any luck, we'll get something like that (or better!) from this Céline documentary - full participation by Céline, but independent filmmaking.

P.S., I also enjoyed VH1 Behind The Music when it was on! But it was as much a PR exercise for those artists as it was an examination of their history.

I actually found “For Keeps” to be a bit less fluffy and personal than the rest you mentioned.

Celine said "Aline"?! Who's this Valerie chick? Alright it's time to set the record straight myself."

I think this is the perfect time for a Celine documentary. I really don't think Celine has really properly been done justice in the way she deserves. Bring on the rare, HQ, unseen clips and put them on my movie screen

I think the side we haven't seen to Celine is her talking in depth about other artists, her home life, her really going into detail about her dislikes, what is going on with her family and extended family these days, her dating life if that is going on, and her talking politics.

At the end of the day, I hope Celine really is happy with how the documentary turns out and uses it to its full potential, for her catharsis and for the fans. I am most looking forward to unseen or rare clips, becaue I truthtfully think we know most of what there is to know about Celine.

I prefer not putting my expectations high too. Probably this documentary is some kind of "high quality tv show" for Netflix, HBO or Apple+ and with nothing substantially new. some kind of a "deluxe Oprah doc":

The little kid in the kitchen story with 14 brothers and sisters, the childhood accident, Renee crying in the office, mom didn't like Renee & Celine affair. teeth problem, english lessons, new woman, Renee only love, eurovision, disney, oscars, MHWGO, vegas, renee is still alive in my heart. NEW VEGAS PROMO, and end of story.

It's sad to say and i don't want to happen this any time soon but the ONLY interesting documentaries usually takes place when the subject is dead and the production is fully independent so they are free to look for all the perspectives of the story without any kind of censorship. For example, hardly doubt Whitney would havee agree to tell or suggest that she was in love with the choreographer or the drugs issue in "Whitney" documentary if she would have been the producer alive. The same with "Amy" documentary.

I'm not fully interested in a cheesy perspective of Celine "the most important thing in my life is to be a good mother, a good wife and a good performer". I prefer a documentary that explores and researches the ideas of the job pressure, be the perfect voice, not having any opinion almost her entire career, Renee as the "only man", "problems having babies", Phil Spektor, jean jacques Goldman... (hehehehe) self-esteem issues and not having a regular youth, Old fashion diva, what happens when you "retire" 2 years and suddenly the whole business has changed (2000's era), cancer, new career, new expectations and yes, NEW VEGAS SHOW...

Don't understand me wrong, I don't want only a sad documentary about the dark places... My point is that usually, when the subject is still alive and involved personally in the project, the documentary easily becomes an ode to the life and career of the subject... and we already have seen that in Oprah's docs, DVD extras and that 3 hours length TCWT.

But who knows, maybe i get surprised... we'll see. hehehe
