Balao Posted September 1, 2020 at 12:01 PM Posted September 1, 2020 at 12:01 PM Yeah i understand what you mean. I was like that too (prob cos of that horrible other bio movie) but this was quite funny and light hearted. I agree with you. I am not expecting a comedy that makes you laugh every 5 minute but rather a biopic that doesn't take itself too seriously with some Easter eggs for the fans. 2 Quote

Balao Posted September 1, 2020 at 12:13 PM Posted September 1, 2020 at 12:13 PM (edited) I wonder how long this movie? 2 hours? 2hours and 8 minutes, according to IMDB Storyline : Quebec, late 1960s, Sylvette and Anglomard welcome their 14th child: Aline. In the Dieu family, music reigns supreme and when Aline grows up we discover a gift to her, she has a golden voice. When he hears that voice, music producer Guy-Claude has just one thing in mind - to make Aline the greatest singer in the world. Supported by her family and guided by the experience and then the budding love of Guy-Claude, they will together write the pages of an extraordinary destiny. joaofilho Posted September 1, 2020 at 01:54 PM Posted September 1, 2020 at 01:54 PM The images are incivable and it looks like an official film by Celine, but what I don't mean is that making a film inspired by Celine's life, her career, and putting the name of the film Aline, doesn't make sense to me. Valérie Lemercier explained on French television. She said that there is only one Céline, and that is Céline Dion. So that's why she didn't want to use the same name again. 2 Quote

Do you think Celine might release a French album with a new single for the movie? Don‘t think so because filming wrapped by the time Courage was released maybe. Besides, the screenplay was written way before the album was released too. Thus the short lived Courage era won’t be part of the movie I guess. Quote

I think it is ok, given that only the fans know celine life more specific, but general audience does not know much so people still can't deduce it is real or loosely based whilst from the trailer it seems it stays true to celine biography 1 Quote "Take the time to make the time to make each moment count" - Unfinished Songshttps://youtu.be/sh8iyY-X3UQ

GoldenLeaf Posted September 2, 2020 at 08:19 PM Posted September 2, 2020 at 08:19 PM (edited) Huh! Valerie Lemercier doesn't look at all like Celine, she litterally looks like a clone of Jennifer Gray in Dirty Dancing. Here is a picture from the movie (Incognito era), all I see is Jennifer Gray from the 80's and not Celine lol : https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Eg0W640XsAEMPF7?format=png&name=small Edited September 2, 2020 at 08:33 PM by GoldenLeaf Quote

Balao Posted September 3, 2020 at 09:29 AM Posted September 3, 2020 at 09:29 AM And you know why? Because she is Aline and not Celine😉 Don't take this too seriously. It is a movie inspired by Celine and not a serious and correct biopic. Even if it was a genuine biopic, we will point out the differences because we're fans. All she could do was take the same clothes, same hairdo, same make-up and good acting. She's not going to have plastic surgery.I think the reception will be different among Céline fans and among casual admirers. Even if the movie is called Aline, everybody knows it's a movie about Céline, and some people will want to watch the film to know more about her. But obviously we fans will not watch the film to know more about her but simply to enjoy or to spot the inaccuracies. Right now, all the premieres are taking place in the south-west of France, as early as September 15th. Quote
jpatdeleon09 Posted September 3, 2020 at 10:12 AM Posted September 3, 2020 at 10:12 AM Honestly.. I'm excited to watch this. Also, There's another movie about Céline, right? Quote
PuraVida Posted September 3, 2020 at 02:19 PM Posted September 3, 2020 at 02:19 PM (edited) This is the singer whose voice is supposed to be doing the actual singing, rather than Valérie Her name is Victoria Sio. Edited September 3, 2020 at 02:21 PM by PuraVida 1 Quote

Chantemoi Posted September 4, 2020 at 01:50 AM Posted September 4, 2020 at 01:50 AM (edited) “The fact the film’s trailer features a mix of French and Québécois accents already has some in Quebec wondering why the film was made in Europe and not here by a Quebec filmmaker.” https://montrealgazette.com/news/local-news/where-does-celines-heart-beat-now-in-a-new-biopic-made-in-france “There has been some pushback from Quebecers ‘wondering why the film was made in Europe and not here by a Quebec filmmaker,’ the Montreal Gazette reported. The Gazette highlighted a tweet by Montreal film journalist Kevin Laforest: ‘Is it cultural appropriation if the French make a biopic about Céline Dion?’” https://www.mtlblog.com/news/canada/qc/montreal/theres-a-new-cline-dion-biopic-coming-out-the-trailer-just-dropped OK so this question is for les Québécois: How upset are people REALLY? Other than this Kevin Laforest gentleman, I have seen (online) a mixture of some who are excited and others who have reservations about whether Valerie’s accent will be believable, and if she’ll be playing on French stereotypes of the Québécois. I guess my question is: Is Valérie’s nationality really a big issue for the average Québecer? Edited September 4, 2020 at 01:52 AM by Chantemoi 1 Quote
mebe Posted September 4, 2020 at 03:33 AM Posted September 4, 2020 at 03:33 AM (edited) As a québécois, I'm not upset but it just sounds weird to me having a mix of accents. It will sound less credible in my opinion. Also Im not sure about the humor used in the movie like when René (I should say Guy-Claude?) calls her Céline instead of Aline. Everything seems to be taken directly from Céline's life (not inspired by) with only the names of the characters being different?! Why? I know she said there is only one Céline but still... I'm very curious to see the movie since it's supposed to be a tribute to Céline and I know Valérie is sincere about her love for her but im quite sure it's not going to be as well received in Québec as it will be in France. People here are going to be more critical for sure. It would be the same in France if there was a québécois movie about Edith Piaf with a québécois accent. In the end, im just glad there is a movie about Céline that seems to be of a better quality then the one that was shot in English Canada a few years ago... Balao Posted September 4, 2020 at 08:14 AM Posted September 4, 2020 at 08:14 AM Valérie said she was offered the opportunity to shoot in the actual house of Céline in Québec and she turned down the opportunity. She wanted to create a new character Aline based on Céline. And yes, she is sincere about her love. She said even though the film was finished, she goes on watching documentaries about Céline, espacially the concert "Sur les plaines d'Abraham".And also, the difference with Edith Piaf is that Céline can speak both French with a Québécois accent and French with a French accent. When Edith Piaf died in Grasse, their close relatives thought it was a shame she did not die in Paris so they secretly drove the corpse all the way from Grasse to Paris and announced her death in Paris because she was the embodiment of Paris. I'm sorry (or not sorry) to say that Céline is not the embodiment of Québec but really an international star. Quote
A new day... Posted September 4, 2020 at 12:33 PM Posted September 4, 2020 at 12:33 PM What's weird is that they keep pointing out that there's only one Celine, but the songs are Celine songs in the movie. So of course people will see her character as Celine and not Aline. So why not use her name and assume this project through to the end... 2 Quote
manu23 Posted September 4, 2020 at 01:05 PM Posted September 4, 2020 at 01:05 PM (edited) I've seen the movie preview and even though I don't understand French, it seems clever. I don't think the director aimed to do a real biopic (Celine is not dead and still too young for a serious biopic). The name of the movie goes also in line with not taking it too seriously. Everyone will know the movie is about Celine, I don't think the title makes any difference. To be honest I'm more interested now that I was before. I was afraid it was going to be a drama kind of telefilm, but this looks more promising now. Edited September 4, 2020 at 01:05 PM by manu23 3 Quote

GoldenLeaf Posted September 4, 2020 at 04:18 PM Posted September 4, 2020 at 04:18 PM I was watching the other day Judy Garland biopic starring Renee Zellweger and it was amazing!!! Renee looks so much like Judy and her acting was so convincing that it felt like watching the real Judy. We need a high quality biopic like this for Céline! 2 Quote
